To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, PniLIP P.KUE11B0ETH, of the city ot' Buffalo, in the county of Erie and State ot' New York, have originated a new Design for Parlor Chairs and Sofas, of' which the following is a full, clear, and exact de scripton, reference being had to the aceon1pa n ying photographie illustration.

My invention relates to the configuration and ornamentation of the frame ot' a ehair or sofa; and its nature will be fully understood from the following description.

In the accompanying photographie illustration, Figure 1 represents the frame of a ehair without arm-rests. Fig. 2 represents the frame ot an arm-chair; and Fig. 3 the frame of a sofa., being identical in design with the armchair, only of greater length.

Like letters of reference designate like parts in each of the figures.

A represents the hack; B, the seat, and U O the front legs. The lower portion of the back is provided with a horizontal bar, D, having pierced or open ornaments d, as clearly shown.

E is the front bar of the seat-frame, provided with a number of leaf-shaped ornaments, e, arranged at equal intervals apart, and having their lower portions depending or projecting below the lower edge of the bar E.

The front legs O are composed of an upper portion, f, made polygonal in cross-section, and a lower round portion, g. The portion f of each leg is provided on its sides with sun ken vertical lines and dots. The lower round por tion g of euch leg is contracted at its upper and lower ends, and provided on its cylindrical portion with a number of round beads and a central dat bead or ring, ornamented with sunken zigzag lines and dots.

When arm-rests are used, each front leg is provided with a column or post, h, resting upon the polygonal portion of' the leg, and made round in cross-section, and tapering toward the top, where it is provided with a dat round head, i.

The body of the column is ornamented with intersecting lines and dots, as clearly shown.

What I claim as my invention is- The design t'or a chair or sofa having the back A, seat B, and legs C, arranged, formed, and ornamented as herein shown and described.
