Abstract
The present application describes an orthosis for treating musculoskeletal and neuromusculoskeletal injuries. The orthosis now disclosed comprises a stabilizer of the osteo-articular structure and at least one multi-directional strip. Accordingly, the present technology promotes the correct biomechanical alignment lost by virtue of the harmful mechanism, thus presenting greater functionality. Additionally, the orthosis presents an immediate effect in terms of symptomatology which translates into a reduction in treatment times in cases of acute or chronic pathology of the musculoskeletal system.
Description
SPECIFICATION
"Orthosis and respective use"
Field of the invention
The present application describes an orthosis and respective use .
Background
Document US 7,771,332 Bl discloses an orthosis designed to prevent shoulder injuries in individuals suffering from muscular spasms, decline in muscular strength and other neurological disorder symptoms. At no point does this document disclose an orthosis that directly treats the injury sustained by use of a stabilizer which guarantees the correct use of the force vector.
Document US 2007/037670 Al discloses an aquatic stabilizing device for use in therapeutic environments. At no point does this document disclose an orthosis that directly treats the injury sustained by use of a stabilizer which guarantees the correct use of the force vector.
There are already orthopaedic restraints on the market which include directional strips [1]. However, these restraints differ from the orthosis of the present invention by not comprising stabilizers in their structure.
Additionally, there are also shoulder restraints that comprise a stabilizer and directional strips having the only function of adjusting the restraint [2] . The present invention stands out from this type of restraints due to the fact that the stabilizer acts directly on the joint and is structurally associated with the directional strips.
Summary
The present application describes an orthosis composed of the body of the orthosis and a fastening zone and comprising at least one multi-directional strip that includes at least one stabilizer.
In an embodiment, the multi-directional strip is fastened posteriorly .
In another embodiment the multi-directional strip exerts posterior superior traction.
In yet another embodiment the multi-directional strip includes at least one stabilizer of the outer malleolus.
In an embodiment the stabilizer wraps the lower and front edge of the outer malleolus.
In another embodiment the stabilizer is shell-shaped.
In an embodiment the stabilizer presents an inner part made of polymeric material.
In another embodiment the stabilizer presents an inner part made of composite material.
In yet another embodiment, the stabilizer presents an inner part made of silicone.
The present application also describes the use of the orthosis described in the preceding paragraphs in the treatment of musculoskeletal injuries, situations of acute/chronic pathology and/or acute/chronic pain.
General description
The present application describes an orthosis that comprises a stabilizer for osteo-articular structures, with the ability to pull on these structures by way of at least one multi-directional strip, allowing the quick orientation of the structure into its asymptomatic position. Asymptomatic position is understood to be the neutral positioning of the osteo-articular structures prior to the injury and that produce an immediate decrease or cessation of the symptomatology .
The orthosis now disclosed comprises at least one stabilizer of the osteo-articular structure and at least one multi¬ directional strip. The function of this stabilizer is to guarantee the correct pulling of the osteo-articular structure to its asymptomatic position. The stabilizer presents a shell-shaped part which will act to wrap comfortably the osteo-articular structure to be corrected, so that force vectors can be applied in order to decrease the symptomatology.
The force vector to be applied varies depending on the morphology of the structure and the symptomatic response. To achieve this objective, the stabilizer may present an inner part made of polymeric or composite material, such as, for example, silicone, that is moldable and adaptable to the patient's osteo-articular structure. The stabilizer may also be applied, in a possible embodiment, directly on the patient ' s skin .
The orthosis also comprises at least one multi-directional strip which is part of its inner structure and the objective of which is to guarantee that the entire orthosis is in
contact with the patient's skin and to exert the force vector on the injured osteo-articular structure.
In an embodiment the technology of the present application helps the osteo-articular structure of the side malleolus into a posterior superior direction, by placing the stabilizer and the multi-directional strip as actuation vectors, promoting a correction of a post-traumatic functional failure present in the outer malleolus. The correction is made immediately after applying this orthosis and the patient should note a considerable decrease or cessation of the symptomatology immediately.
The present technology is particularly useful for musculoskeletal injuries of the osteo-articular complex of the ankle, but not limited just to the ankle, and may be applied in situations of acute/chronic pathology, as well as acute/chronic pain of the osteo-articular structures.
Description of the Figures
For improved comprehension of the present application, figures are attached, which represent preferred embodiments that, however, are not intended to limit the art disclosed herein .
Figure 1: Schematic representation of the final position of the orthosis when applied.
Figure 2: Schematic representation of the application method of the ankle orthosis, and of its composition.
Description of embodiments
Next some embodiments will be described in further detail, which do not, however, intend to limit the scope of the present application.
The present application describes an orthosis that comprises a stabilizer for osteo-articular structures, with the ability to pull on these structures by way of at least one multi-directional strip, allowing the quick orientation of the structure into its asymptomatic position.
The orthosis is thus composed of the body of said orthosis that comprises a fastening zone, which is the part of the orthosis that is composed of material that will act to fasten, for example velcro, so as to fasten the multi¬ directional strip, and at least one multi-directional strip that includes a stabilizer.
In an embodiment, such as the one illustrated in Figures 1 and 2, the orthosis comprises a stabilizer for the outer malleolus, with the ability to pull on it in a posterior superior manner by way of a multi-directional strip, which fastens posteriorly. The stabilizer is placed in such a way as to wrap the lower and front edge of the outer malleolus.
The objective of this embodiment is to help the side malleolus into a posterior superior direction, by placing the stabilizer and the multi-directional strip as actuation vectors, promoting the correction of a post-traumatic functional failure present in the outer malleolus.
The present technology is useful for musculoskeletal injuries of the osteo-articular complex and can be applied
in situations of acute/chronic pathology, as well as acute/chronic pain.
In an embodiment, the present technology is also useful for neuromusculoskeletal injuries.
The present specification is naturally not restricted in any way to the embodiments presented in this document, and a person with ordinary skill in the art could envisage many possibilities of modifying it without straying from the general idea, as defined in the claims. The preferred embodiments described above are obviously combinable with each other. The following claims additionally define preferred embodiments.
