Abstract

Spectacles, especially safety spectacles, comprise padded arms (7). In the region lying on the ear the upper side (11) of the arm consists of a bar (10) made of relatively hard plastic. Underneath the bar there is a region of relatively soft plastic having an essentially continuous lower edge (bar (15)). Between the lower edge and the upper bar there is at least one bubble-like bulge (16, 18) in the direction of the head of the wearer. Preferred Features: A number of bubble-like bulges are separated by approximately vertical bars (17) made of soft plastic which extend between the bar of hard plastic and the lower edge.

Class Int. Class Application Number: Lodged: Complete Specification Lodged: Accepted: Published: Priority Related Art: Name of Applicant: Uvex Arbeitsschutz GmbH Actual Inventor(s): Stefan Bruck Address for Service and Correspondence: PHILLIPS ORMONDE FITZPATRICK Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys 367 Collins Street Melbourne 3000 AUSTRALIA Invention Title: A PAIR OF GOGGLES, PARTICULARLY A PAIR OF SAFETY GOGGLES Our Ref: 689043 POF Code: 1611/307228 The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to applicant(s): -1- 6006q A Pair of Goggles, Particularly a Pair of Safety Goggles The invention relates to a pair of goggles, particularly a pair of safety goggles, having padded ear pieces.
Such a pair of goggles is known from EP 0 529 202 Bi. In this known design, it is envisaged that an eye-like configuration made of relatively hard plastic material be formed at the end of the ear piece, which configuration is spanned by a bubble convexity in a direction towards the head of the user. In this way, a good fit and high user comfort are achieved immediately at the end of the ear piece.
The above discussion of background art is included to explain the context of the present invention. It is not to be taken as an admission that any of the documents or other material referred to was published, known or part of the common general knowledge at the priority date of any one of the claims of this specification.
Based on the foregoing, it would be desirable to further develop a pair of safety goggles having ear pieces of the aforesaid kind so that the contact area alongside the lower edge, i.e. the edge abutting the user's ear, is designed such that maximum user comfort is achieved while the goggles fit securely.
The present invention provides a pair of goggles having padded ear pieces, each ear piece including an upper strip, made of a relatively hard plastic material, and an area made of relatively soft plastic material and having a substantially continuous lower edge formed below the strip, wherein a plurality of bubble-like convexities, formed in the soft plastic material between the lower edge and the upper strip, are provided to project in a direction toward the head of a wearer of the goggles and wherein the convexities are separated from one another by approximately vertical strips made of soft plastic material, which strips extend between the strip made of hard plastic material and the lower edge.
By means of the design according to the invention, a very soft ear contact area with sufficient basic stability is provided, which contact area is able to adapt to a certain extent as regards shape while ensuring high user comfort and reliable positioning.
The end of the ear piece can be formed by an eye-like enlargement of the hard plastic material across which bubble-like convex soft plastic material extends.
Conveniently, each ear piece is made in an injection mould by one injection of hard material and one of soft material.
The invention will hereinafter be described in more detail with reference to a preferred embodiment and in connection with the drawing, in which Fig. 1 shows a view of a pair of goggles according to the invention as seen from the back or with the eyes of the user; Fig. 2 shows a plan view of a pair of goggles according to the invention; Fig. 3 shows an enlarged side view of an ear piece as seen from the inside; and Fig. 4 shows an enlarged plan view of an ear piece.
In the drawing, a pair of safety goggles 1 is shown having two sight pieces 2 which are arranged at an upper frame element 3 having a nose contact area 4 while ear pieces 7 are linked to the outer ends 5 of the upper frame element 3 by means of hinges 6 in a manner known per se. The ear pieces 7 are bent towards the inside in the head contact area 8.
The inner end area of each ear piece 7 is connected to the outer end 5 of the upper frame element 3 via a snap-in gap 9 in order to make the ear piece lengthwise adjustable. The section 7 of the ear piece consists of a relatively hard plastic material having the form of a strip 10 and forming the upper edge 11 of the ear piece 7 and which extends backwards up to the end 12 of the ear piece, where the hard plastic material forms an enlarged eye-like configuration 13.
A soft plastic material is moulded on to the hard plastic material or the strip which soft plastic material extends across the lower end area 14 of the inner end section of the ear piece 7 and, extending from there and in the form of a strip forms the lower edge of the ear piece 7 which is supported on the ear.
The soft plastic material forms a sheet extending between the lower strip 15 made of soft plastic material and the upper strip 10 made of hard plastic material, which sheet comprises a plurality of bubble-like convexities 16 which are separated from one another by vertical, strip-like sections 17.
The soft plastic material also extends across the eye-like enlargement 13 at the end 12 of the ear piece, where it forms another bubble-like convexity 18.
