55857 GEH:PFB P/00/011 Regulation 3.2 AUST RA LIA Patents Act 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION FOR A STANDARD PATENT ORIGINAL Name of Applicant: KUO-SHEN WU Name of inventor: KUO-SHEN WU Address for Service: COLLISON & CO.,117 King William Street, Adelaide, S.A. 5000 Invention Title: CLAMPING DEVICE FOR KEY DUPLICATING MACHINE WITH REPLACEABLE SEGMENTED JAWS The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to me: 2 BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a clamping device for key duplicating machine with replaceable segmented jaws, wherein a pair of segmented jaws is provided for use as a clamping part, and for replacement of the segmented jaws damaged during 5 key duplicating by new ones easily, and a pair of side guide posts is provided for guiding a segmented jaw secured on a movable jaw to uprightly move towards a segmented jaw secured on a fixed jaw in a straight path line, in order to clamp a key sample or a key blank firmly. In the conventional clamp for key duplicating machine, a pair of female and male 10 parts are respectively formed on the two confronting upper portions of a pair of fixed and movable jaws, and a screw is disposed between the fixed and movable jaws, for driving the movable jaw towards the fixed jaw, in order to clamp a key sample or a key blank by means of the engagement of the pair of female and male parts, and to urge a clamped key blank by means of manipulation by hand to move towards and 15 tough a rotating cutting tool for effecting the key cutting. However, the length of the screw of such clamp is relatively much longer than the engagement length of the pair of fixed and movable parts, and the movement of the movable jaw driven by the screw will cause a slight deviation from a straight path line, such deviation will result in an improper hold of a flat key sample or key blank, i.e. the upward deviation of the 20 movable jaw will enable the flat key sample or key blank to project upward. This will 3 result in an inaccurate key cutting, i.e. inaccurate depths of the formed key teeth, and also enable the clamping edges of the movable and fixed jaws being cut in part unexpectedly by the cutting tool, and cause damage to the movable and fixed jaws. If one third of the clamping edges of the movable and fixed jaws are damaged, the 5 whole clamp will become useless. The present invention aims at eliminating the above disadvantages and provides a clamping device for key duplicating machine with replaceable segmented jaws, wherein a pair of segmented jaws is provided for use as a clamping part, and for replacement of the segmented jaws damaged during key duplicating by new ones 10 easily, and a pair of side guide posts is provided for guiding a segmented jaw secured on a movable jaw to uprightly move towards a segmented jaw secured on a fixed jaw in a straight path line, in order to clamp a key sample or a key blank firmly by the pair of segmented jaws. In a preferred aspect of the present invention, the clamping device for key 15 duplicating machine with replaceable segmented jaws comprises a substrate having an elongated slot; two pairs of movable and fixed jaws arranged in the elongated slot each comprising a pair of side guide posts disposed between the two confronting sides of a pair of movable and fixed jaws; a pair of segmented jaws releasably secured on the two confronting upper ends of the pair of movable and fixed jaws, for use as a 20 clamping part, and for replacement of the segmented jaws damaged by a cutting tool during key duplicating by new ones easily; and a screw with compression spring disposed between the two confronting center portions of the pair of movable and fixed jaws, for driving the movable jaw towards the fixed jaw along the pair of side guide posts, in order to clamp a key sample or a key blank firmly by the pair of segmented 25 . jaws. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING An embodiment of the present invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a clamping device for key duplicating machine 3 0 with replaceable segmented jaws according to the present invention; Figure 2 is a partial sectional top view of a clamping device for key duplicating machine with replaceable segmented jaws according to the present invention; and 4 Figure 3 is a partial sectional front view of a clamping device for key duplicating machine with replaceable segmented jaws according to the present invention. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION Referring to Figures 1 - 3, a clamping device for key duplicating machine with 5 replaceable segmented jaws which is an embodiment of the present invention comprises a substrate I having an elongated slot 11 and arranged below the duplicating cutting tool and the stylus of a key duplicating machine ( not shown); two pairs of movable and fixed jaws 2,3 arranged in the elongated slot 11, and aligned one with the other; a pair of side guide posts 4 disposed between the two confronting 10 sides of each pair of movable and fixed jaws; a pair of segmented jaws 21,31 respectively and releasably secured on the two confronting L-shaped parts formed on the upper ends of each pair of movable and fixed jaws by means of the flat head screws 6, for use as a clamping part, and for replacement of the segmented jaws damaged by a cutting tool during key duplicating by new ones easily; and a screw 51 15 with compression spring disposed between the two confronting center portions of the pair of movable and fixed jaws. A screw 51 is at one end secured to the center portion of the fixed jaw 3 which is secured at a proper position in the elongated slot 11, and the other end is engaged and extends out from the movable jaw 2. A compression spring 53 arranged between the 20 center portions of the fixed jaw 3 and the movable jaw 2, for biasing the latter to move backward, in order to receive a key sample or a key blank. A handle 52 is disposed at the extended end of the screw 51, for driving the movable jaw towards the fixed jaw along the pair of side guide posts 4, in order to firmly clamp a key sample or a key blank by the pair of segmented jaws without causing any deviation from a 25 straight path line. The confronting L-shaped parts 22 and 32 formed on the upper ends of each pair of movable and fixed jaws are formed with a vertical plane and a horizontal plane perpendicular to each other, for easily and firmly supporting and securing the segmented jaws 21 and 31 by means of the flat head screws 6. Further, the segmented 30 jaws 21 and 31 of the movable and fixed jaws are formed in a relatively small part, if they are unexpectedly and seriously damaged by the cutting tool, the damaged segmented jaws can be easily replaced by the new ones without losing the whole movable jaw or fixed jaw.
