Patents Act 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION Invention Title: GARDEN CART The invention is described in the following statement, including the best method of performing it known to us: Our Ref: 052005 COMS ID No: SBMI-01258263 Received by IP Australia: Time 22:33 Date 2005-05-20 2005 21:27 Wa ington Dummer No.1498 P. 12 2 In GARDEN CART O0 0- The present invention relates to improvements in garden maintenance equipment and, in particular to equipment permitting the application of sprays without the 0 S 5 need to carry a spray container.
BACKGROUND
Maintaining a garden implies the need to control the O growth of weeds and the proliferation of garden pests. Many Sformulations of chemicals are available for this purpose C 10 with the typical mode of application being that of spraying areas of the garden with a hand held boom drawing the formulation in liquid form from a container via a flexible hose.
Some containers at least may be pressurized by inbuilt pumping means and may be of considerable size and weight.
Such containers may be carried on the back of a user, supported in a harness. Where the pump is situated in the neck of the container, the container must be taken off whenever re-pressurising is required. Thus both the weight and use of such containers may become quite burdensome to a user over time and may for some users be beyond their capacity to manage.
A further disadvantage of such containers and hand held boom arrangements, is that the boom may need to be held at a constant angle to the body of a user for a COMS ID No: SBMI-01258263 Received by IP Australia: Time 22:33 Date 2005-05-20 13.Oct. 2005 15:31 Wallinston-Dummer Sydney No.2646 P. 4 C 3- 0 o considerable length of time tending to an uncomfortable cramping of the musculature of the hand.
It is an object of the present invention to address or 0\ lq 5 at least ameliorate some of the above disadvantages.
0 In BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION C Accordingly, in a first broad form of the invention, there is provided a garden cart for the carriage of a sprayable liquid container and a spray boom; said cart comprising: a base frame including a base plate; said base plate adapted to support thereon one of a selection of sizes of said container, a pair of wheels mounted to either side of said base frame, at least one spray boom mounting block for releasable retention of said spray boom therein; said mounting block adapted to relieve a user from holding said spray boom while said garden cart is in use; and wherein said angular disposition of said spray boom relative said COMS ID No: SBMI-01732851 Received by IP Australia: Time 15:35 Date 2005-10-13 13-00. 2005 15:32 Wallinston-Dumm er Sydney No.2646 P. ncontainer.

COMS ID No: SBMI-01451883 Received by IP Australia: Time 13:10 Date 2005-08-29 2005 21:28 Wallington Dummer No.1498 P. 17 7tl DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS 0 0 First Preferred Embodiment With reference to Fig. 1, a garden cart 10 comprises a metal tubing frame 12 enabling it to be light in weight and C 5 manoeuvrable. Wires 14 from the handle 16 connect to wheels 18 via frame 12. Wires 14 are engaged via a trigger (not shown) on the handle 16 adapted to collapsing the garden Scart for storage or transportation.
o Garden cart 10 is provided with an adjustable plate (C 10 at the bottom of the cart to take various sizes of a spray container 22. The plate 20 is pivotable with container 22 to an upright position for easy filling. Straps 24, which may be of leather or Velcro® for example, are provided at the neck of the cart and near the plate 20 ensuring that the container 22 is held to the frame and base.
The trigger when pressed allows the handle 16 to fold down between the wheels 18, either when container 22 is attached to the cart or removed from it, for storage or transportation.
The plate 20 supporting the container 22 may be positioned and retained upright by a locating rod or bar 28, for filling purposes if so desired. After filling the rod or bar 28 is released and the container re-positioned for spraying.
COMS ID No: SBMI-01258263 Received by IP Australia: Time 22:33 Date 2005-05-20 2005 21:28 Wa li nston Dummer No.1498 P. 18 8- Vn Second Preferred Embodiment 0 0, With reference to Figs. 4 to 9, in a second preferred embodiment of a garden cart according to the invention, garden cart 100 is again provided with a main frame member C 5 112 supported on either side by wheels 118. In this embodiment frame member 112 is provided with an integrally formed base plate 120 for support of a container 122, and a ci O handle 116. Frame 112 may be fabricated of any suitable Smaterial or may be of an injection moulded polymer. Handle Ciq 10 116 may be integrally formed with frame 112 or releasably attached to it so as to allow for more compact storage and transportation.
Frame 112 includes side elements 124 rising from base plate 120 to handle 116. Preferably, side elements 124 are set at an angle to base plate 120 as shown in Figs 4 and 6.
Wheels 118 are so disposed relative base plate 120, side elements 124 and handle 116, that when cart 100 is in a rest position, base plate 120 is substantially level with, and in contact with a ground surface, and container 122 is then in an upright position. With side elements 124 so angled to base plate 120 and with the positioning of wheels 118, a user may readily pull back on handle 116 to bring the cart to a comfortable rolling position for a user of average height (not shown). The centre of gravity of container 122 is then substantially vertically above wheels 118.
COMS ID No: SBMI-01258263 Received by IP Australia: Time 22:33 Date 2005-05-20 2005 21:28 Wa l ngton Dummer No.1498 P. 19 9 Container 122 may be located on base plate 120 when, 0 o in use and the cart and container are at an angle to the horizontal, by suitable nesting (not shown) for a given size of container. Container 122 is then retained against Ci 5 the nesting at the rear of the container by suitable strapping means.
SFurther retaining means are provided by a nest 126 as ci Smay be seen in the top view of Fig. 6, projecting forwardly cI o' from frame 112 and strapping 128 located at an upper Ci 10 portion 130 of the container 122. Nest 126 preferably comprises an integrally formed forwardly projecting member from rear cross-brace structure 127, with strapping 128 attaching to extension portions 129 of side elements 124.
Located on each side element 124 is an upper retainer clip 132, into which a spray boom 134 may be inserted when not in use. Boom 134 is further supported when not in use by either one of lower boom mounting blocks 136 located to each side element 124. Fig. 9 shows a detail of mounting block 136, which is provided with projections 138 adapted for insertion into an aperture in side element 124. Block 136 is further provided with holding notch and boom securing clamp 142. A number of apertures may be provided along each side element 124 so as to allow insertion of mounting blocks 136 at a selection of heights.
For use when spraying, boom 134 may be secured in either one of mounting blocks 136 and the angle of the boom COMS ID No: SBMI-01258263 Received by IP Australia: Time 22:33 Date 2005-05-20 2005 21:28 Wallington Dummer No 1498 P. 10 VS adjusted by swivelling of projection 138 in the aperture in side element 124. Thus a user, after pressurising the container, may simply wheel cart 100 along a row of vegetation which is at a similar height and which requires the same application of spray.
The above describes only some embodiments of the present invention and modifications, obvious to those O skilled in the art, can be made thereto without departing o from the scope and spirit of the present invention. Thus Ci 10 for example, although the above description is with reference to a garden cart, the principles of the invention may be equally applied to the carriage of other containers of sprayable liquids for other applications..
