Description

Received 30 May 2006 Title Gutter Manifold Clip Technical Field This invention relates to a clip designed to be fitted within a guttering system of a 5 roofed structure. In particular, the clip is designed to carry/saddle piping/conduit for the purpose of distributing fluid in the aid of wild/bush fire protection of an establishment. Background Art The gutter manifold clip of the present invention is designed to satisfy an identified need to fasten a sprinkler system onto an internal side of a gutter section of a 10 roofed structure. The current methods of attaching such fire prevention type systems require the drilling of holes into one or more of the following: the roofing; the upright wall; and, the guttering or guttering support. The drilling of such holes presents dangers, such as, the piercing of concealed electrical cables, puncturing pressurised water/gas lines, and causing a weakening of 15 materials such as in framing, roofing or guttering. These methods will furthermore require foreknowledge on the internals of a structure, i.e. a builder or qualified trades person of whom would need to have studied detailed plans of a structure of interest before carrying out such works. A home handyman or lay trades person without such knowledge risks injury to themselves and to others, or may possible cause costly damage to the 20 structure of interest. Object of the Invention It is an object of the present invention to alleviate one or more of the risks stated above that are associated with the installation of such fire prevention type systems. It is also an object of the present invention to simplify type applications for example builders 25 or trades people, and provide a means for the handyman and common home owner alike. Summary of the Invention According to the present invention, there is provided a gutter manifold clip comprising: a head for engaging a fold, groove or lip of a front wall of a gutter; 30 arms adjacent the head that are moveable to engage the front wall of the gutter; a saddle for supporting a manifold, pipe, conduit or cable; Amended Sheet TnV A /A TT Received 30 May 2006 -2 a tail extending from the saddle and extendable around the manifold, pipe, conduit or cable; and a supporting neck located between the head and saddle. The gutter manifold clip is mountable to most common externally mounted gutter 5 systems of roofed structures. The gutter manifold clip may be pressed in or self supported within the lip, groove or fold of the gutter. The gutter manifold clip is equipped with two adjustable arms bendable from a shoulder of the clip, and the arms enable the clip to be height adjusted within the gutter or supportive of itself depending on the gutter type in which it is fitted. 10 The gutter manifold clip may be bent, twisted and contorted in any way necessary to conform and be used in any new type of, or yet to be tested guttering system. The guttering manifold clip is mounted in such a way that it is not visible to persons viewing the gutter from a level equal to a bottom of the gutter or below. The gutter manifold clip may be used to support any suitably sized pipe, conduit 15 or cable within a guttering system. The clip, at present, measures approximately 42 millimetres from the head to a base of the tail. The width of the clip is approximately 22 millimetres. The width of the tail is approximately 5 millimetres. The length of the tail is approximately 30 millimetres. The width of the arms is approximately 3-4 millimetres. It is to be 20 appreciated that these measurements are open to adjustment for the purpose of a clip being redesigned to suit new and inventive gutters, yet retaining its basic form and function. The gutter manifold clip may be constructed from any suitable fire resistant materials, i.e. bronze, copper, steel, stainless or otherwise. 25 As mentioned, the gutter manifold clip is designed to clip into existing and common gutters of roofed structures. The clip is attached within an upper outer lip of many such gutter profiles in production and known in the art. The clip is designed to be placed at intervals along any given length of guttering, depending on the rigidity of piping/manifold used for the purposes of distributing fluid or otherwise. 30 The clip is manually pressed into position within the gutter upper outer lip, being either supported by its neck or adjustable arms. With the clip in position, any piping/manifold required may be laid across the saddle and fastened into place with the Amended Sheet Received 30 May 2006 -3 malleable/bendable tail of the clip folded/pressed down over the subject, thus the gutter manifold clip's duty is performed. A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings. 5 Brief Description of the Drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of a gutter manifold clip according to an embodiment of the invention; Figure 2 shows the clip of Figure 1 but with adjustable arms of the clip shown as used in practice when mounted to a standard type external box gutter; 10 Figure 3 is a cross-sectional view of a standard type quad gutter having the clip of Figure 1 and supporting a manifold; and Figure 4 is a cross-sectional view of a standard type external box gutter having the clip shown in Figure 1 and supporting a manifold. Details of the Preferred Embodiment 15 In the figures, like reference numerals refer to like features. The figures show a gutter manifold clip having a head 1, two adjustable arms adjacent the head 2, a saddle 4 supporting a manifold, pipe, conduit or cable 9, a tail 5 extending from the saddle 4 and extendable around the manifold, pipe, conduit or cable 9, and a neck 3 extending between the saddle 4 and head 1. 20 Figures 3 and 4 show different gutter profiles to which the clip may be mounted. Each gutter has a front exposed wall 7 and a rear wall 8 that is attachable to a facia or other structure. The front wall 7 has an upper outer lip, groove or fold 6. As seen in Figure 3, the upper outer lip, groove or fold 6 is round and the head 1 and arms 2 are press fitted within 25 that lip, groove or fold 6. The clip, in this instance, is supported by its head 1 and neck 3. Figure 4 shows a standard type external box gutter. The head 1 of the clip engages the upper outer triangular fold 6. The adjustable arms 2 are bent down and engage the front wall 7 such that the clip is fully supported by way of its head 1 and arms 2 but not its neck 3. 30 The clip is made of metal and can be bent, twisted and contorted in any way necessary to conform and be used in any type of guttering system. Some of the advantages of the present invention include: Amended Sheet . . 1j~ A I J U Received 30 May 2006 -4 - It provides a simple yet effective means for attaching a fire prevention type system or otherwise into a guttering section of a dwelling or structure without having to drill any specific holes. - It offers an economical method of installing such a system. 5 - The clip can be made of a number of fire resistant materials. - The clip offers an aesthetically pleasing solution to the installation of piping/cabling within an externally mounted gutter system.
