Description

Regulation 3.2 Australia Patents Act COMPLETE SPECIFICATIONS (AMENDED 15 JANUARY 2009) Name of Applicant: PETER SASS and FRANCESCA SASS and KALIOPI KOTRIDIS and THEOHARIS KOTRIDIS Actual Inventor: PETER SASS and FRANCESCA SASS and KALIOPI KOTRIDIS and THEOHARIS KOTRIDIS Address for Service: Boyle Telfer & Kooblal, 17 Douglas Parade, Williamstown, Vic, 3016, DX 16104 Williamstown, Tel: 9397 1900, Fax: 9399 9343, email: admin@kooblalslawyers.com.au Invention Title: (a) Sasskot Multi Purpose Pen 1 (b) Sasskot Multi Purpose Pen 2 (c) Sasskot Multi Purpose Pen 3 Details of Associated Provisional Nil Application: HdJewh-, DESCRIPTION (PART A) Title: 1. Sasskot Multi Purpose Pen 1 2. Sasskot Multi Purpose Pen 2 3. Sasskot Multi Purpose Pen 3 Field of the Invention: This invention relates to inventive steps and improvements in the conventional writing pen for multi purpose utilities and variable applications, which. are other than the conventional use of being a simple writing device. The invention includes inventive steps over what was known before regarding the body of a conventional pen. Background to the Invention: For many years, the conventional pen has been known as a device that may be used for writing. There have been inventions where the conventional pen had a dual function, for example, used as a writing device or a spray jet to spray fluids, either as a perfume, breath freshener, anti microbial, static elimination effects, sanitiser, breath spray and a device to expel liquid from the body of the pen. All of these devices were designed to expel one type of material only, namely a thin liquid that may be sprayed as fine vapour through an atomiser. Accordingly, there is a need to expel material of variable texture, for example, powder, materials that have a dry texture, gel, lotion, cream, paste, liquids of variable thickness, gas in the form of air and materials in different forms other than just liquid, has not been considered as expellable from a device that may be attached to the body of a pen. The existing devices accordingly have a limited use in that they have a dual function, namely: (a) Used as a conventional pen for writing purposes; (b) Used as a device to spray thin liquids expelled as fine vapour through an atomiser. The limitation of existing devices is that it serves a dual function. This invention relates to improvements in devices for multi function purposes. A single pen may be used to expel solids and liquids of varying thickness. The existing devices cannot expel solids. Nor can they expel liquids that are thick in volume. There is therefore a need for a device that is capable of dispersing various types of material, not just thin liquids. More importantly, there is a need to have various types of material, not just thin liquids that must be available at the time of need, in a very discreet way, for example, when used for personal hygiene. There are other occasions when there is need for use of materials by mechanics, farmers, students, industries and such like. The wide variety of materials would include various categories of different materials based on their densities, texture, size and form. The present inventors have conceived of a novel way of dispensing, dispersing, expelling, tipping, squeezing, ejecting and pumping materials through the device. The materials may then be used widely for multi purpose applications. As such, the present inventors' novel idea enables the device which is interchangeable and has the capacity to disperse, dispense, eject, squeeze, pump, tip and distribute materials which may include, but is not limited to: 1. Dry Materials (a) Baby powder. (b) Make up powder. (c) Bath and foot salt. (d) Foot odour powder. (e) Powdered herbs/spices. (f) Artificial sweeteners. (g) Powdered milk and coffee powder. (1) Burn relief spray. (m) Nasal spray. (n) Foot odour spray. (o) Deodorant and perfume spray. (p) Self defence spray, for example, capsicum. (q) Security ink spray. Having regard to the wide category of materials used in the various walks of life from industry to health and domestic/private use, there is a need for a device to cater for all needs and occasions. This invention overcomes the problem of having to dispense materials of various types, texture and form. The device is light and compact that can come into use for emergencies, recreational use, health, safety and for overall convenience.
The inventions are devices that attach to a conventional pen, especially on the upper half of the pen. The lower half of the pen would contain the conventional parts needed for writing and holding. The inventors have created the novel idea of producing various chambers that are either disposable or interchangeable. Material of various types, textures and form would be placed in the chambers. The chambers would disperse, expel, squeeze, tip, pump, eject or distribute material of varying types. The inventors have created variable types of chambers to suit the particular type of material. The chambers are colour coded and labelled to distinguish what materials it contains, thereby preventing confusion and mistakes. For the visually impaired, there would be brail writing description. This gives the individual a choice of what type of material they wish to use. The invention therefore provides for multi purpose applications. The device therefore is multi functional and may be used in industries, for domestic, health, beauty, personal and private use. Summary of the Inventions: The present invention provides three types of pens, namely: 1. Sasskot Multi Purpose Pen 1. 2. Sasskot Multi Purpose Pen 2. 3. Sasskot Multi Purpose Pen 3. 5. Preferred Aspects of the Inventions: The pen is in the form of a conventional pen that has an ink/lead pencil refill. The inventions provide for interchangeable chambers that would enable the various chambers, described in detail below, to be used in each of the three Sasskot Multi Purpose Pen 1, Sasskot Multi Purpose Pen 2 and Sasskot Multi Purpose Pen 3. 6. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS: The drawings are presented in three separate drawings for: (a) Sasskot Multi Purpose Pen 1 (b) Sasskot Multi Purpose Pen 2 (c) Sasskot Multi Purpose Pen 3 Although the three separate drawings each has the words "SASSKOT SPRAY PEN 1", "SASSKOT SPRAY PEN 2" and "SASSKOT SPRAY PEN 3", each of the drawings should exclude any reference to the word 'spray' as each of the three drawings have the words "multi-pen with spray". Each pen therefore has the multi purpose rather than merely being a "spray" pen. In fact, some of the pens do not "spray" at all, for example, the pens that would eject solids and soft materials. Each of the three separate drawings have figure 1, figure 2 and figure 3, save for the diagram relating to the Sasskot Multi Purpose Pen 1 which has figure 1, figure 2, figure 3 and figure 4. Diagram in Relation to Sasskot Multi Purpose Pen 1: Figure 1 is an isometric view of the pen in accordance with this invention.
Figure 2 is an isometric view of the pen displaying the interior of the bottom half section as exposed (without cover) in accordance with this invention. Figure 3 is a cross sectional view of the pen in accordance with this invention. Figure 4 (relates to Sasskot Multi Purpose Pen 1 only) is a cross sectional view of the pen in accordance with this invention which demonstrates the three different designs, namely: (a) Sasskot Multi Purpose Pen 1: a push button on top of the pen to expel soft, wet material and material in paste form, for example, toothpaste, shoe polish, creams, glue, health ointments, gels and liquid nail referred to in paragraph 2 under the heading "Soft Materials of Varying Density". (b) Sasskot Multi Purpose Pen 2: a push button at the side of the top half of the pen that is pushed to spray thin liquid material or expel medium or thick liquids from the side of the dispenser. Such thin liquids as are described in paragraph 4 under the heading "Liquids of Thin Volume Dispersed in Fine Vapour". The liquids of medium density are described in paragraph 3 under the heading of "Liquids of Medium Density". The thick liquids would include lotions as describe in paragraph 2 above under the heading "Soft Materials of Varying Density" and sub heading (a) described as "lotions". (c) Sasskot Multi Purpose Pen 3: The top half of the pen would have several types of chambers that would enable soft, dry material, for example, powders, to be expelled or solid material like tablets to be expelled either from a single or double chamber. 7. DETAILED DESCRIPTION WITH RESPECT TO THE THREE DRAWINGS: A: - SASSKOT MULTI PURPOSE PEN 1: Figure 1: An isometric view of Sasskot Multi Purpose Pen 1 showing three dimensional view. Figure 2: An isometric view of Sasskot Multi Purpose Pen 1 without integers. Figure 3: 1. Standard wind out, pen refill and interchangeable chamber for soft materials of varying density like gels. 2. Multi purpose pump mechanism winds out with top of pen. 6. Pen clip. 7. Material cylinder interior to store material of varying thickness and texture. 8. Ink/pencil lead refill. 9. Twist action to lower and raise pen refill (to activate pen section). Figure 4: (a) Push down and twist to lock multi purpose pump. Shown in inactive position. 1. Standard Wind out, Pen Refill and Interchangeable Chamber for Soft Materials of varying density like gels: The standard windout is the conventional method of opening a pen and separating the bottom and top parts. This enables one to gain access to the ink refill which either requires to be replaced or changed due to colour preference. The pen refill would be standard refills available on the market. The bottom half of the pen is a conventional pen. However, the upper half is unique in that it has an interchangeable chamber for expelling soft material of varying density like gels, toothpaste and the like. This chamber may be interchanged with the Sasskot Multi Purpose pen One and pen Three are interchangeable. 2. Logo on Body of Pen: The pen is designed to either be personalised or bear the corporate logo or individual logo of entities.
3. Twist to Unlock to Activate Multi Purpose Pump Mechanism: The pump mechanism activates the dispensable material to be dispensed either as a soft and wet material like gel or paste which may be in thicker volume. By pushing down and twisting to a lock position, the pump action is rendered inoperable. The Multi Purpose Pump Mechanism will not work whilst locked. This provides safety measures to prevent soft and wet materials being spilled accidentally. There is no such prior invention relating to a locking and unlocking device for soft wet materials. 4. Adjustable Jet To Expel Soft and Wet Materials: The adjustable jets are in three different sizes namely small medium and large. The novelty of the adjustable jets is that it provides the capability of expelling soft wet materials of varying densities. For example, shoe polish or similar soft but thicker material like butter, may be expelled through the large jet. The medium jet would neatly expel slightly softer wet materials like toothpastes, body creams. The small jets would expel even softer materials like make-up foundation, sun block lotions, sun tan lotions. The uniqueness of the three varying sizes of the adjustable jets would create a pressure within the cylinder containing the materials. If a thicker material is to be expelled, the larger jet would be utilised. The softer and wetter the material, the smaller the jet. This unique creation has never before been invented. The variable jets also control the amount of material that is to be expelled thereby preventing spillage. The uniqueness also lies in the ability through the variable adjustable jets to determine the quantity of material to be expelled. The three jets, small, medium and large may be activated by selecting one of the three jets. The design is unique in that the material may only pass through one of the three jets at any given time. To align the particular jet, whether small, medium or large, a device has been created which enables the mechanism to be in one of three positions. By rotating the exterior body of the very top of the upper half of the pen in either an anti-clockwise or clock-wise to align the particular jet to be chosen. Once the jet is locked in position, that particular jet can only be used. Therefore the uniqueness is further in enabling the consumer to use different jets for different soft wet materials, which did not previously exist. 5. Multi-Purpose Pump Mechanism Winds Out With Top of Pen: Previous inventions merely provided for thin liquid sprays using an atomiser. There is no invention that provides for a pump mechanism that is able to expel soft wet materials. The uniqueness of the multi-purpose pump mechanism is its ability to enable soft wet material of varying thickness to be expelled through the creation of pressure within the chamber containing the materials. The chamber is large enough to contain the soft wet materials like shoe polish, glue, toothpaste and any other similar soft wet material. By compressing one end of the chamber the soft wet material is pressurised against the adjustable jet. The pressure enables the material to be expelled from the chosen jet. In other words, the material is compressed and expelled from the chosen jet opening. 6. Clip: The clip holds the pen fastened to ones pocket. 7. Material Cylinder Interior To Store Material of Varying Thickness and Texture: The cylinder is made from glass, plastic or hybrid material, depending on the particular application or contents of the cylinder. The cylinder has a special fitting that connects to the multi-purpose pump. 8. Ink/Pencil Lead Refill: The ink/lead refill is the conventional ink cartridge or lead refill used in ordinary pens. 9. Twist Action to Lower and Raise Pen Refill: The ink refill or ink cartridge or pencil lead may be activated by a twist action to lower or raise the particular refill or pencil lead. By the twisting action, the pencil lead or ballpoint may be revealed. This would expose the writing part of the pen to enable the pen to be used in its conventional manner. By a further twisting action or pulling apart, the bottom half of the pen becomes separated from the top half. The enables one to change the ink refill/ink cartridge or the pencil lead refill. B: - SASSKOTMUL TI-PURPOSE PEN 2: Figure 1: An isometric view of Sasskot Multi-Purpose Pen 2 showing three dimensional view. Figure 2: An isometric view of Sasskot Multi-Purpose Pen 2 without integers with cross sectional view of the pen displaying the interior of the bottom half section as exposed (without cover). Figure 3: 1. Standard wind out, pen refill and interchangeable chamber for soft materials of varying density like gels. 2. Logo on body of pen. 3. Twist to unlock to activate multi purpose pump mechanism. 4. Adjustable jet to expel soft materials. Shown in activated position. 5. Multi purpose pump mechanism winds out with top of pen. 6. Pen clip. 7. Material cylinder interior to store material of varying thickness and texture. 8. Ink/pencil lead refill. 1. Standard Wind Out Pen, Refill and Interchangeable Chamber for Liquids of Varying Thickness Like Lotions: The standard wind out is the conventional method of opening a pen and separating the bottom and top parts. This enables one to gain access to the ink refill which either requires to be replaced or changed due to colour preference. The pen refill would be standard refills available on the market.
The novelty of the design is that the upper half of the pen has a unique chamber. The chamber has the capacity to house cylinders and multi-purpose pumps to disperse liquids that may be thin, medium or thick. 2. Logo on Body of Pen: The pen is designed to either be personalised or bear the corporate logo or individual logo of entities. 3. Press Flexible Cover to Activate Multi-Purpose Pump (Button Mechanism Under Flexible Cover): A flexible cover is attached to the side of the upper half of the pen. Beneath the flexible cover lies a button. The button slides downwards to activate the pump mechanism. It slides upward to lock the pump. The flexible cover protects the button and provides a softer touch to the fingers or thumb. 4. Adjustable Jet To Expel Materials Of Varying Thickness Like Lotion: The adjustable jets are in three different sizes mainly small, medium and large. The novelty of the jet is that it has the capability of dispersing three different volumes of liquids from thin such as fine vapour, liquids of medium density such as water paint, face paint and thick liquids such as aftershave lotion. To avoid confusion, the user would identify the size of the jets which would be marked "S" for small, "M" for medium and "L" for large. The letters would be in reflective writing for easy use in dark conditions. The three jets, small, medium and large may be activated by selecting one of the three jets. The design is unique in that the material may only pass through one of the three jets at any given time. To align the particular jet, whether small, medium or large, a device has been created with enables the mechanism to be in one of three positions. By rotating the exterior body of the very top of the upper half of the pen in either an anti-clockwise or clockwise position to align the particular jet to be chosen. Once the jet is locked in position, that particular jet can only be used. Therefore the uniqueness is further in enabling the user to use different jets for different thickness of liquid material, which did not previously exist. 5. Multi-Purpose Pump Mechanism Winds Out with Top of Pen: Previous inventions merely provided for thin liquid sprays using an atomiser. There is no invention that provides for a pump mechanism that is able to expel or disperse liquids of varying thickness such as lubricating liquid, liquids of medium density like massage oil and thick liquids such as aftershave lotions. The uniqueness of the multi-purpose pump mechanism of the Sasskot Multi-Purpose Pen 2 is its ability to enable liquids of varying thickness to be expelled through the creation of pressure within the chamber containing the liquids. The chamber is large enough to contain the liquids such as shaving lotion, massage oils or hair spray. The uniqueness of the design of the Sasskot Multi-Purpose Pen 2 is that the pump mechanism has a large diameter tube. The large tube is connected to the pump which in turn is connected to the adjustable jet. By depressing the button, it enables an amount of air to be compressed. This allows the liquids, whether thin, medium or thick, to escape from the chamber due to the pressure to the adjustable jets. There is a spring and ball bearing located on top of the tube. Once the liquid material of varying thickness has left the tube, the ball bearing reverts to its original position. By depressing the button, the pressure created by the liquid material once again becomes compressed by the spring and ball bearing action allowing the air to be compressed and the liquid to be dispersed once again through the jet holes. The spring and ball bearing allows the ball bearing to fall back into its original position thereby preventing any excess liquids to be dispersed. There is no previous invention that provides for a pump mechanism capable of dispersing liquids of variable volume ranging from thin, medium to thick liquids. 6. Pen Pull Down: The pen pull down lever enables the pen to become operable as a conventional pen would. For example, by sliding the pen pull down lever towards the bottom of the pen, the pencil lead or ballpoint may be exposed to use the pen in the conventional manner. 7. Material Cylinder Interior To Store Liquids Of Varying Thickness Like Lotions: The material cylinder is made of glass/plastic or hybrid material that stores liquids of varying thickness like lotions. These cylinders would require to be specially fitted with a cover on top of the cylinder. The pump mechanism would have a tube that is made of firm material to give it steadiness and strength to pierce the foil. To facilitate the piercing action, the end of the tube would be in a wedge shape or cut at a 450 angle so that the end of the tube would have a sharp point. The pump mechanism would have a "built in" seal that would prevent the contents of the cylinder from spilling, leaking or being contaminated. The seal in the pump mechanism, which attaches to the top of the cylinder thereby preserves the contents of the cylinder according to the shelf life of its contents. These cylinders are interchangeable and unique as previously devices do not have the capacity to accommodate liquids of varying thickness and texture. The cylinders are further unique in that they are specially designed to fit to the multi-purpose pump thereby enabling liquids of various thickness to be expelled. 8. Ink/Pencil Lead Refill: The ink/lead refill is the conventional ink cartridge or lead refill used in ordinary pens. C: SASSKOT MUL TI-PURPOSE PEN 3: Figure 1: An isometric view of Sasskot Multi-Purpose Pen 3 showing three dimensional view. Figure 2: An isometric view of Sasskot Multi-Purpose Pen 3 with cross sectional view of the pen displaying the interior of the bottom half section as exposed (without cover). Figure 3: 1. Standard windout, pen refill and interchangeable chamber for soft, dry materials like powders and tablets. 2. Logo on body of pen. 3. Press flexible cover to expel soft material like powder and tablets (button mechanism under flexible cover). 4. Variable dispenser. 5. Pump and spring mechanism fixed in pen shaft. 6. Pen clip. 7. Material interior for powders and tablets. 8. Ink/pencil lead refill. 9. Twist action to lower and raise pen refill to activate pen section. 1. Standard Wind Out, Pen Refill and Interchangeable Chamber for Soft, Dry Materials Like Powders and Tablets: The standard wind out is the conventional method of opening a pen and separating the bottom and top parts. This enables one to gain access to the ink refill, which either requires to be replaced or changed due to colour preference. The pen refill would be standard refills available on the market. 2. Logo on Body of Pen: The pen is designed to either be personalised or bear the corporate logo or individual logo of entities. 3. Press Flexible Cover to Expel Soft Material Like Powder and Tablets (Button Mechanism under Flexible Cover): The flexible cover attaches to a flexible outer body of the top half of the pen. By applying pressure to any part of the flexible cover or flexible body, the air in the internal chamber is pressurised. This causes the air to rush towards the opening in the variable dispenser. The moving air causes the soft powder to aggregate towards the opening in the variable dispenser. The jet stream of air would then transport the powder through the variable dispenser thereby expelling the powder. 4. Variable Dispenser: The variable dispenser has many fittings depending on the application. 4.1 For dispensing soft wet materials like gels, paste and liquids there are attachable nozzles. The soft wet materials are expelled through jet holes in the nozzles attached to the top head of the pen. The head will have threads or slots to attach accessories to the head. The accessories include mini-toothbrush, lip gloss brush/sponge, liquid eyeliner, face paint brush/sponge or shoe polish sponge. These attachable accessories have internal passage for the wet soft materials to pass through to the brush/sponge applicator. 4.2 For dispensing soft dry materials like powder or spices there is a rotating plate with one or several holes of variable sizes. The rotating plate attaches to a fixed plate with one hole. The rotating plate registers with only one hole that will align with the fixed plate at any one setting. This allows the soft dry materials, for example, powder or spices, to be expelled depending on the texture and softness of the material. The uniqueness of this design is that there has been no other device attached to a pen having similar capability. 4.3 To dispense solid materials like tablets, there are two options, namely: (a) One slot opening for the single chamber dispenser; (b) Two slot opening for the double chamber container. The one slot or the two slot openings are at the top but on the side elevation of the pen. From a single chamber, the tablet would be ejected through the single slot. The tablet from the double chamber would be ejected from the two-slot opening at the top side of the pen. The spring mechanism causes the tablets to be released either from the one slot or two-slot opening. 5. Pump and spring mechanism fixed in pen shaft: The pump mechanisms are different depending on the type of material to be expelled, namely: (a) Soft and wet materials like gels, pastes and liquids; (b) Soft dry solids like powder, spices and glitter; (c) Solid dry materials like tablets, saccharine and candy. 5.1 For soft wet materials the pump mechanism is the same as in Sasskot Multi-purpose Pen 2. 5.2 For soft dry materials the flexible cover and body provides a first ever unique mechanism for a pen. 5.3 For dry materials like tablets, saccharine and candy. At the base of the chamber there is one spring or two springs depending on the type of chamber. On top of the spring there is a plate for the single chamber. Tablets or similar solids may be stacked on the plate forming a single stack. The spring-loaded tension pushes the plate upwards. This enables the solids to be ejected from the top side elevation of the pen. For the double chamber, two stacks of tablets or similar solids may be ejected from two openings at the top side elevation of the pen.. 6. Pen Clip: The pen clip is fixed to the upper body of the pen. It is on the exterior of the pen. It enables the pen to be clipped in a shirt pocket. The pen clip is a conventional feature of an ordinary pen. 7. Material interior for powders and tablets. The interior of the chamber is made of strong, durable plastic or hybrid material. The uniqueness of these chambers is that they are interchangeable for soft wet materials, soft dry materials and solids. This enables one pen to be used for variable applications. No other device has this versatility.
