Abstract

A bicycle rack includes a first part including two connection portions to which two first ends of two second parts are connected. The first part includes at least one fixing unit connected thereon so as to position a bicycle. A base is connected between the two second parts and is connected to the hitch of the vehicle. The two second parts are pivotable relative to the base by operation of two locking members on tow sides of the second parts.

Description

Pool Section 29 Regulation 3.2(2) AUSTRALIA Patents Act 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION STANDARD PATENT Application Number: Lodged: Invention Title: Bicycle Rack The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to us: P111ABAU1207 BICYCLE RACK FIELD OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a bicycle rack, and more particularly, to a bicycle rack assembled by smaller parts which are convenient transported and assembled. BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION There are two ways to carry bicycles with a vehicle, the first one is to secure the bicycle frame on the top of the vehicle, and the second one is to carry the bicycles on a bicycle rack which is connected to a rear end of the vehicle. The first way increases the height of the vehicle so that the driver has to carefully check the height limit when passing through tunnels or beneath trees. Besides, the wheels of the bicycles have to be removed before the bicycle frames are secured to the top of the vehicle, so that it requires skill to disassemble and assemble the bicycles. The second way allows the bicycles to be carried on the bicycle rack without disassembling any part from the bicycles, so that the use of the bicycle rack is welcomed by most of the users. However, the bicycle rack usually occupies a certain space which is inconvenient for transportation, packing and manufacturing. The present invention aims to provide a bicycle rack which is assembled by several parts and the parts are assembled and manufactured easily and conveniently, or to at least provide an alternative bicycle rack in the marketplace.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a bicycle rack which comprises a body including a first part and two second parts, wherein the first part includes at least one fixing unit connected thereon and two connection portions which split apart from each other to be located on two sides of an axis of the first part, and each second part includes a first hole defined in a first end thereof, the first ends of the second parts being inserted into respective connection portions, two bolts which respectively extend through the two connection portions and the two first holes, each bolt being secured with a nut, and a base connected between two second ends of the respective second parts, each of the respective second ends of the two second parts including a second hole, a third hole and a fourth hole, wherein the base includes two side boards and a transverse board connected between the side boards, each of the two side boards including a notch in a top thereof and an elongate slot extending vertically therethrough, two positioning bars which respectively extend through the two second holes and the two elongate slots, two locking members which are respectively insertable through, and removable from, the two third holes and the two elongate slots, and two positioning members which respectively extend through the two fourth holes and engage with the notches, 2a wherein, when the two locking members are removed from the two elongate slots, the two second parts can be moved upward disengaging the positioning members from the notches, and the two second parts are then pivotable about the two positioning bars. Hence, the second parts can be pivoted relative to the base so as to tilt the rack for convenience of opening the rear trunk door of the vehicle. In the bicycle rack, each of the two locking members may include a pin and a resilient member, each resilient member having one end connected to a first end of the pin and the other end being bent and including a loop, such that a second end of the pin can extend through the loop. Also, The present invention will become more obvious from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings which show, for purposes of illustration only, a preferred embodiment in accordance with the present invention. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS Fig. 1 is a perspective view to show the bicycle rack of the present invention; Fig. 2 is an exploded view to show the bicycle rack of the present invention; Fig. 3 is a side view of the bicycle rack of the present invention; 2b Fig. 4 shows that the locking members are removed and the second parts are lifted, and Fig. 5 shows that the second parts are pivoted relative to the base. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT Referring to Figs. 1 to 3, the bicycle rack of the present invention comprises a body 1 including a main frame 10 which is composed of a first part 11 and two second parts 12. The first part 11 includes two connection portions 111 which have two open ends and multiple fixing units 20 are connected on the first part 11 so as to secure bicycle on the first part 11. The first ends of the two second parts 12 are inserted into the two connection portions 111 and each of the second parts 12 includes a first hole 121 defined in the first end thereof. Two bolts 71 respectively extend through the two connection portions 111, the first holes 121 and are connected with two respective nuts 72 to connect the second parts 12 to the first part 11. A base 30 is connected between the two second ends of the two second parts 12 and each of the two respective second ends of the two second parts 12 includes a second hole 122, a third hole 123 and a fourth hole 124 which is a transverse elongate hole. The base 30 includes two side boards and a transverse board connected between the two side boards. Each of the two side boards includes a notch 32 defined in a top thereof and an elongate slot 33 is defined axially through each of the side boards. Two positioning bars 40 extend through the two respective second holes 122 and two 3 respective lower portions of the two elongate slots 33. Two locking members 50 extend through the two respective third holes 123 and two respective upper portions of the two elongate slots 33. Two positioning members 60 are L-shaped members and extend through the two respective fourth holes 124, the bent section of the two positioning members 60 are engaged with the notches 32 so that the two second parts 12 are fixed to the side boards of the base 30. A connection hole 31 is defined through the transverse board such that the hitch of vehicles (both not shown) is engaged with the connection hole 31 to connect the bicycle rack 1 to the vehicle. Each of the two locking members 50 includes a pin 51 and a resilient member 52, and each of the resilient members 52 has one end connected to the first end of the pin 51 and the other end of each of the resilient members 52 is bent and includes a loop 521. The second end of the pin 51 extends through the pin 51. Referring to Figs. 4 and 5, when the two locking members 50 are removed from the two elongate slots 33, the two second parts 12 can be moved upward and the positioning bars 40 move form the lower portion to the upper portion of the slots 33. The positioning members 60 are then disengaged from the notches 32, so that the two second parts 12 are pivotable about the two positioning bars 40. This function allows the user to open the rear trunk door of the vehicle while the bicycle rack 1 is still connected with the vehicle. 4 While we have shown and described the embodiment in accordance with the present invention, it should be clear to those skilled in the art that further embodiments may be made without departing from the scope of the present invention. 5
