Abstract

Abstract A method of generating secondary messengers such as cAMP, cGMP, inositol triphosphate and arachidonic acid in a cell, the method comprising modifying a nucleotide sequence for expressing a chimeric light responsive rhodopsin-based membrane protein with one or more heterologous adrenergic receptors alpha 1 and beta2; and expressing the light responsive membrane protein in a cell for producing a secondary messenger in response to light.
