Description
DEVICE FOR DETERMINING ARM CONSTITUTION
TECHNICAL FIELD
The present invention relates to a device and method for determining a 5 Sasang body constitutions and an arm constitution, and in particular to a device and method for determining a Sasang body constitution and an arm constitution, wherein the Sasang body constitution may be formed of Taeyang type, Soyang type, Taeeum type and Soeum type or may be formed of Hepatonia, Cholecystonia, Renotonia, Vesicotonia, Pancretonia, Gastrotonia, Pulmotonia 10 and Colonotonia.
BACKGROUND ART A human constitution in general is determined in a natural or postnatal way. In all ages and countries, the theory on such a human constitution has 15 been developed in various types, wherein the Sasang body constitutional typology invented by Lee, Jaema is recognized as the most successful constitution theory.
According to the "Sasang structural theory, the Sasang body constitutional typology invented by Lee, Jaema (1937-1900) is formed of four 20 constitutions, namely, Taeyangin, Soyangin, Taeeumin and Soeumin, and the 1
Sasang body constitutional typology is considered an excellent theory showing a new direction to various clinical applications since it is linked to physiology, pathology, diagnosis, syndrome, treatment and medicine.
The medical materials to be administrated change in accordance with 5 each body constitution, When treating patients, if a medicine is prescribed based on an accurate determination on a body constitution, a disease may be faster treated while recovering a patient's vigor. If a wrong medicine is prescribed due to an inaccurate determination to a body constitution, not only is a disease not treated, but a patient's disease condition also may become worse. 10 The four key factors for a body constitution diagnosis suggested by Lee,
Jaema are Chehyunggisang, Yongmosagi, Sungjiljaegan, and Byungjungyakri (refer to Sasang typology pp. 129-131, Jipmundang, Sasang typology class, nationwide oriental medicine colleges).
Since the 1960's, the body constitution classification has been detailed 15 into arm constitutions. The arm constitution typology is one of the body constitution topologies which categorize, based on the sizes of internal organs, the body constitution of a person into eight parts: Hepatonia, Cholecystonia, Renotonia, Vesicotonia, Pancretonia, Gastrotonia, Pulmotonia and Colonotonia. A Korean oriental doctor named Gwan, Doeun reported for the first time the 20 above arm constitution at the first international congress of acupuncture held on 2
October 24, 1965 in Tokyo, Japan.
According to the arm constitution reported by Kwan, Doeun, the body constitution corresponds to any one between two body constitutions inheriting from his parents. The body constitution may be determined in such a way to 5 detect the waveforms of any pulse with three fingers by searching eight pairs of pulse formations which form naturally encountering formations of eight body constitutions at a wrist radial artery.
The eight-constitution typology which categories eight body constitutions may establish a theory which is able to category body constitutions based on 10 the internal organs of a human. Every human body includes ten internal organs of which five solid organs and five hollow organs. The strong and weak arrangements of such organs are arranged different from one another, more specifically, they are categorized into eight different arrangements. This establishes a principle of eight body constitutions. The strength and weakness 15 of each organ are directly linked to the sizes of each organ. The Sasang typology and the theory on the arrangements of the organs seem similar to each other, but the strength and weakness arrangements of the intermediate organs are independently separated in the eight-constitution typology. The types of the eight constitutions may be categorized as follows. 20 Hepatonia refers to a body constitution wherein the liver positions at the 3 most front side as a biggest organ, and other nine organs are arranged in an order of the strength and weakness, and Cholecystonia refers to a body constitution wherein the gallbladder positions at the most front side, and the other nine other organs are arranged in an order of the strength and weakness, 5 and Pancreotonia refers to a body constitution wherein the pancreas positions at the most front side, and the other nine other organs are arranged in an order of the strength and weakness, and Gastrotonia refers to a body constitution wherein the stomach positions at the most front side, and the other nine other organs are arranged in an order of the strength and weakness, and Pulmotonia 10 refers to a body constitution wherein the lungs position at the most front side, and the other nine other organs are arranged in an order of the strength and weakness, and Colonotonia refers to a body constitution wherein the large intestine positions at the most front side, and the other nine other organs are arranged in an order of the strength and weakness, and Renotonia refers to a 15 body constitution wherein the kidneys position at the most front side, and the other nine other organs are arranged in an order of the strength and weakness, and Vesicotonia refers to a body constitution wherein the urinary bladder positions at the most front side, and the other nine other organs are arranged in an order of the strength and weakness. 20 In order to apply the above determination criteria of the body constitution 4 to a patient, it needs to previously and accurately diagnose and categorize the body constitution of the patient because it is hard to completely ignore a doctor's subjectivity during a procedure to diagnose an actual patient. There are various methods for diagnosing the body constitution. For example, the body 5 constitution may be determined with the aids of a subject's body constitution, a subject's character or impression, a disease symptom, a reaction after a medicine is administrated, and a reaction after an acupuncture, etc.
For the sake of more objective diagnosis on a body constitution, various studies are underway. Most of the conventional technologies are directed to the 10 Sasang typology, however a means and method for determining an arm constitution are little known. To this end, it urgently needs to develop a new method and device which are more objective and reliable.
DISCLOSURE OF THE INVENTION 15 Accordingly, it is an object of the present invention to provide a device for determining an arm constitution which may allow to provide a body constitution-associated health management method in such a way to diagnose and prescribe by categorizing the subjects by their body constitutions with the aid of an easier and accurate diagnosis of a subject's arm constitution. 20 It is another object of the present invention to provide a device for 5 determining an arm constitution wherein it is possible to easily and simply measure a subject in a state where the subject is sitting or standing upright, not lying somewhere, and any error in a measurement value can be reduced, and an accurate and objective diagnosis on a body constitution is available. 5 To achieve the above objects, there is provided a device for determining an arm constitution so as to determine a Sasang body constitution and an arm constitution, which may include, but is not limited to, a determination weight 1 which is connected via a connection chain 3 to a handle 2 made of a metallic material, wherein the determination weight 1 includes a circular dome-shaped ίο metallic head unit 6 which is engaged to connection rings 4 and 5; a coinshaped copper lead plate unit 7 which is made of a copper and is connected to the head unit 6; a hexagonal body unit 8 which is formed of crystalline hexagonal surfaces connected to the copper lead plate unit 7; and a lower body 9 which is formed of three triangular surfaces and three pentagonal surfaces 15 which are integral with the body unit 8.
INDUSTRIAL EFFECTS
The device for determining an arm constitution of the present invention can be usefully used for the sake of a diagnosis and prescription of a disease 20 since it is possible to in detail categorize the body constitutions of a subject by 6 using the device for determining an arm constitution of the present invention.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
The present invention will become better understood with reference to 5 the accompanying drawings which are given only by way of illustration and thus are not limitative of the present invention, wherein;
Figures 1 and 2 are perspective views illustrating a device for determining an arm constitution according to the present invention; and
Figure 3 is a plane view illustrating a lower side of a device for ίο determining an arm constitution according to the present invention.
MODES FOR CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION
The present invention will be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings. 15 As illustrated in Figure 1, the device for determining an arm constitution according to the present invention may include, but is not limited to, a determination weight 1; a handle 2; and a connection chain 3, wherein the connection chain 3 connects the determination weight 1 and the handle 2. The connection chain 3 is 8~10cm long and is made of a metallic material, 20 preferably, an iron and includes connection rings 4 and 5. The determination weight 1 corresponding to a key component of the device for determining an arm constitution according to the present invention may include, but is not 7 limited to, a metallic and circular dome-shaped head unit 6 connected to the connection rings 4 and 5; a coin-shaped copper lead plate 7; a hexagonal body unit 8 made of a crystalline material; and a lower body 9 having three triangular surfaces and three pentagonal surfaces. 5 It is preferred that the connection chain 4 is 5~15cm long, and if shorter than 5cm, the body unit of the determination weight won't swing well, and if longer than15cm, the swinging will be too slow, which may result in an inaccurate determination. To this end, it is most preferred that the connection chain is 8~10cm long, thus allowing an easier body constitution determination, ίο The connection change in general is made of a metallic material. A thread or a cloth is advantageously light, but it may be easily cut or twisted. In case of a metallic material, it has a good electric conductivity and is not cut well, which may lead to a long time use.
The head unit 6 of the determination weight is shaped like a circular 15 shape of the sun, so it has a circular dome shape and is preferably made of a stainless material which does not go rusty and is light, which may lead to a long time use.
It is preferred that the copper lead plate 7 has an electrically and thermally good conductivity and does not go rusty. 20 The body unit 8 of the determination weight 8 is hexagonal. This 8 hexagonal determination weight is very suitable to determine a body constitution based on a large constitution, a small constitution, a negative constitution and a position constitution which form a main frame of a predetermined body constitution. 5 The equilateral hexagonal configuration consists of six equilateral triangles wherein a radius of a circumscribed circle forms one side, and the circumcenter, incenter and center of the triangle concentrate at one point.
The lower body 9 of the determination weight may include three triangular surfaces 9-2 and three pentagonal surfaces 9-3. ίο The method for determining a Sasang body constitution and an arm constitution with the aid of the determination weight 1 may include the following steps. 1) A tester may sit or stand in a northern direction and holds the determination weight with a thumb and an index finger of the right hand facing 15 downward. It is preferred that the determination is carried with the tester sitting on a chair. The directions except for the northern direction may be subjected to an inaccurate determination. 2) The subject may sit or stand facing the tester. It is preferred that the subject in general sits on a chair. 20 3) The determination weight that the tester is holding is positioned 9 above a portion about 5~10cm off the center of the palm of the right hand of the subject. 4) Using the thumb and the index finger of the tester, the tester checks any reaction in the motions of the weight while holding in order the tip of each of 5 the fingers from the thumb 1 to the little finger 5 of the right hand of the subject the former of which is sticking out forward.
At this time, the tester may hold the subject's toes instead of holding the fingers. The relationships between the hands and organs are shown in Table 1, and the reactions of the determination weight showing via the fingers are shown 10 in Table 2.

Table 2
Five fingers Thumb Index finger Middle finger Ring finger Little finger Reaction of determination weight 0 X 0 0 0 Body constitution Taeyangin X Soeumin Taeeumin Soyangin 10
First, when holding the thumb corresponding to the first finger of the right hand of the subject, if the determination weight rotates in the clockwise direction above the thumb finger of the subject, the Taeyangin reacts against 5 the thumb, so the determination weight rotates in the clockwise direction. At this time, the subject who reacts at the thumb is determined as being Taeyangin. More specifically, Taeyangin reacts at the thumb, and the other fingers never react.
If the determination weight rotates in the clockwise direction upon the 10 reaction at the thumb, the subject is determined as being Taeyangin in terms of Sasang body constitution. After the subject is determined as being Taeyangin and unfolds the hand. Right after this, if the determination weight rotates in the clockwise direction, the subject is determined as having Pulmotonia constitution in terms of the eight body constitutions. If the determination weight rotates in the 15 clockwise direction when the subject clenches the fist, the subject is determined as having Colonotonia body constitution.
When holding the third finger (middle finger) of the subject, if the determination weight rotates in the clockwise direction, the subject is determined as being Soeumin, and then the determination weight reacts thereto. 20 If the determination weight rotates in the clockwise direction upon the 11 reaction at the middle finger, the subject is determined as being Soeumin in terms of Sasang body constitution. Right after this, if the determination weight rotates in the clockwise direction with the hand being unfolded, the subject is determined as having Renotonia body constitution in terms of the eight 5 constitutions.
When holding the fourth finger (ring finger) of the subject, if the determination weight rotates in the clockwise direction, the subject is determined as Taeeumin in terms of Sasang body constitution. Right after this, if the determination weight rotates in the clockwise direction in a state where the 10 hand is unfolded, the subject is determined as having Hepatonia body constitution, and if the determination weight rotates in the clockwise direction in a state where the subject clenches the fist, the subject is determined as having Cholecystonia body constitution in terms of the eight constitutions.
When holding the fifth finger (little finger) of the subject, if the 15 determination weigh rotates in the clockwise direction, the subject is determined as Soyangin in terms of Sasang body constitution. Right after this, if the determination weight rotates in the clockwise direction in a state where the hand is unfolded, the subject is determined as having Pancretonia body constitution in terms of the eight constitutions. If the determination weight rotates in the 20 clockwise direction in a state where the subject clenches the fist, the subject is 12 determined as having Gastrotonia body constitution in terms of the eight constitutions.
In summary, if the determination weight rotates in the clockwise direction against the thumb, the subject is determined as Taeyangin, and the Taeyangin 5 is divided into Pulmotonia body constitution and Colonotonia body constitution, and if the determination weight rotates in the clockwise direction against the middle finger, the subject is determined as Soeumin, and the Soeumin is divided into Renotonia body constitution and Vesicotonia body constitution, and if the determination weight rotates in the clockwise direction against the ring 10 finger, the subject is determined as Taeeumin, and the Taeeumin is divided into Hepatonia body constitution and Cholecystonia body constitution, and if the determination weight rotates in the clockwise direction against the little finger, the subject is determined as Soyangin, and the Soyangin is divided into Pancretonia body constitution and Gastrotonia body constitution. 15 As compared with the conventional method for determining a body constitution, the method for determining a body constitution using the determination weight according to the present invention has the advantageous following features (Table 3). 20 Table 3 13
