Description
A nappy backpack that converts into a hanging organiser while maintaining full functional accessibility of all compartments in both configurations. The bag unzips from the top, around the sides and base, opening into a flat hanging layout supported by top hooks. Detachable ‘pod’ bags form labelled, interchangeable storage modules for dry items, wet garments, and 2024259725
insulated food. Each pod remains attached and accessible whether the bag is worn or hung, enabling seamless use without repacking. An attachable front handbag provides additional, removable personal storage. The invention delivers continuous organisational usability through compartment dexterity, distinguishing it from conventional convertible or foldable bags.
[001] The present invention relates to multi-configuration storage bags, and more particularly 2024259725
to a nappy backpack that converts into a hanging organiser while retaining the full functionality of its internal compartments. The invention is especially suited for childcare, travel, and shared caregiving applications where continuity of organisation between portable and suspended use is required.
[002] Existing nappy bags and travel organisers often require users to repack or rearrange contents when transitioning between carrying and hanging use. Conventional nappy backpacks typically open only at the top and rely on wall pockets for storage, resulting in limited visibility and accessibility.
[003] Some travel organisers can be hung open, but their compartments collapse or become inaccessible when folded into a portable form. This lack of functional continuity between configurations forces users to empty, repack, or use additional storage solutions.
[004] Furthermore, current nappy backpacks do not accommodate modular internal compartments that remain usable in both orientations, nor do they provide a detachable front handbag that integrates seamlessly into the main storage volume when attached.
[005] The present invention addresses these deficiencies by introducing a convertible nappy backpack and hanging organiser featuring a structurally supported internal layout with compartment dexterity; that is, the ability of the internal pockets and pod bags to maintain orientation, accessibility, and labelled organisation in both modes of use.
[006] A change mat is a common product needed to have in a nappy bag and nappy bags are often sold with change mats included, however they typically take up space in the internal space of the nappy bag and cannot be accessed without opening the main section of the nappy bag. This need for opening the bag first to access the change matt is a problem when, for example, carrying both the backpack and the child results in a challenging rearrangement of 29 Oct 2025 child and bag to be able to get the bag off the users shoulders, to unzip and access the change mat all whilst still holding the child, only once the change matt is in hand can it be lay down for the baby to be placed on top of it.
[007] As a nappy bag is often used daily, with the contents repeatedly being taken in and out and replenished. The bag is usually left sitting on table or bench tops in busy living areas and 2024259725
gets in the way.
[008] When travelling with children and arriving at a destination to stay for a few days, such as short weekend trips away camping, holiday, to visit family. The amount of clothes, accessories and feeding equipment needed for especially young children, and the ability to organise these many items outside the parents own home can feel very disorderly very quickly. Typically, a nappy backpack or bag can only be used as a closed bag with unzipping function at the top only and typically, hanging travel organisers are only useable when then are open and hanging, therefore meaning that on such a trip, the parent would need to bring along the nappy bag, a suitcase full of the clothes, accessories, etc and an additional hanging travel organiser for transferring the contents of the nappy bag and suitcase into the hanging travel organiser. Requiring multiple large portable storage solutions and extra packing/ unpacking.
In an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, there is disclosed a convertible nappy backpack and hanging organiser that maintains full organisational functionality in both configurations. The invention provides a structurally supported main body including a rear panel, front panel, top panel, bottom panel and opposing side panels joined by a continuous zipper, enabling the bag to transform between a wearable backpack form and a completely opened hanging organiser form.
A key feature of the invention is that the internal compartment structure, including detachable pod bags, labelled pockets and fastening loops; retains orientation, shape and accessibility in both configurations, such that the internal organisation remains fully functional when the bag is worn or hung. This continuous usability, referred to as compartment dexterity, allows the
3a user to access every compartment without repacking or repositioning the contents during 29 Oct 2025
conversion.
The rear panel includes upper hanging supports for suspending the bag from a hook, pram or door. The internal panels incorporate multiple fixed and removable pockets for storage of childcare items, clothing, food and accessories. The detachable pod bags provide modular storage that can be reconfigured or interchanged depending on use, and are constructed from 2024259725
materials suited to their intended function, for example; transparent, insulated, or waterproof fabrics. Each pod bag includes top and bottom zippers permitting access from either orientation, and fastening clips at its corners for secure attachment within the bag.
An additional feature of the invention is a detachable front handbag attachable to the backpack by a zipper interface. When attached, the handbag forms an external front pocket integral with the main storage volume; when detached, it functions as an independent handbag for the caregiver’s personal items.
The bag further includes a rear pocket for a foldable change-mat accessible from both sides, enabling convenient removal and use even while the bag is worn. The combination of the continuous-zip structure, dual-access pod bags and detachable handbag provides a multi- purpose childcare storage system that converts between portable and hanging use without loss of organisational capability.
Through this configuration, the invention achieves a new and non-obvious technical effect namely, continuous functional accessibility of all compartments in both orientations, offering efficiency, visibility and convenience not found in prior nappy bags or hanging organisers.
This backpack will be described in two positions, first a fully unzipped hanging position and secondly a closed position.
At the top of the rear panel are two metal D-loops attached by webbing tape, positioned near opposite side of the rear panel, these loops are to attach to hooks that can hang over the top of a door, or attach to any other suitable hanging structure. While the bag is fully unzipped and hanging, the full internal contents are visible in one clear view.
3b The internal side panels have permanent stitched in pockets with elastic binding, the 29 Oct 2025
left-side panel includes two pockets, one above the other with elastic binding and the right- side panel has a pocket with elastic binding at the top but below this is another object of invention by a vertical zipper for the intended purpose of a packet of baby wipes to be placed in the external pocket, with its opening positioned internally to enable wipes to be accessed through this zip on the inside when hanging. 2024259725
The internal rear panel of the bag includes pockets with elastic binding, pockets at the bottom rear suitable for holding baby milk bottles and pockets at the top rear for other accessories with an additional clear pocket stitched to this, suitable for adding a label to describe the pocket contents. Also on the internal rear panel are fabric loops with buttons centred between the loops, the intended purpose of these loops are to attach additional ‘pod’
