21-35 Hope Street, Brunswick, Victoria, 3056, Australia PHILLIP JAMES HUBBARD SANDERCOCK, SMITH BEADLE, 207 Riversdale Road, Box 410) Hawthorn, Victoria, 3122 Complete Specification for the invention entitled: IMPROVED WALL OVEN The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to me:-' SNote: The description is to be typed in double spacing, pica type face, in an area not exceeding 250 mm in depth and 160 mm in width, on tough white paper of good quality and it is to be inserted inside this form.
14166/77--L Printed by C. J. THOMPSON, Acting Commonwealth Government Printer, Canberra i 2~ i I 2 This invention relates to wall ovens and more particularly to wall oven assemblies incorporating more than one oven and a separate grill.
With the increasing popularity of microwave ovens, it is becoming common for wall oven assemblies to include a microwave oven either above or below the standard convection oven. The main disadvantage of this is that the overall height of the oven, grill and microwave oven assembly becomes excessively large making it difficult to mount the assembly in a position which provides easy access to the upper and lower ovens of the assembly. Similar considerations apply to wall oven assemblies in which the microwave oven is replaced by a further standard oven, a warming tray or the like.
Attempts to reduce the height of such assemblies have 0000 01"5 included the incorporation of the grill in one of the ovens.
0004 o 0 While this reduces the overall height of the assembly to an o acceptable dimension, most users find the positioning of the Oe O Sgrill in the oven unacceptable. The principal objection is that use of the grill inside an oven causes excessive soiling of the oven and the oven must be cleaned on far more occasions 00; than was hitherto necessary.
I
It is the object of the present objection to provide a o 'wall oven assembly in which the grill is maintained as a separate entity whilst maintaining the overall height of the assembly within acceptable bounds.
o oo According to the invention there is provided a wall oven 00 S assembly comprising a first oven, a second oven or warming drawer above or below said first oven and a separate grill, at
NN~
!tbspe.047/craigl 0 J l 90 3 28 least one of said ovens being a convection oven, said grill being mounted on a drawer slidably supported in the wall oven assembly and having the control panel for at least the convection oven and the grill mounted on or forming part of the front wall of said drawer.
In this way, the space previously occupied by the control panel is more efficiently used by mounting the grill on a slidable drawer behind the control panel. Electric and/or gas supply to the control panel is provided by a flexible wire housing and/or a flexible gas pipe. Alternatively, control may be achieved by providing signal means in the control panel which transmit activating signals to a control means mounted in a suitable position in the wall oven assembly.
It has been found that arranging the grill in the above

4 5 manner, a wall oven assembly incorporating a microwave oven and a standard oven will have the same height as an assembly in which the grill was arranged in one of the ovens.
o One preferred form of the present invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: 444' 4 4C Pa 4 4 4

a 41 4 Figures 1 and 2 show existing wall ovens incorporating a separate grill and a grill located within the oven; Figure 3 is a perspective view of an oven embodying the invention; Figure 4 is a fragmentary side elevation showing the grills supporting drawer; Figure 5 is a fragmentary sectional end elevation taken along the line A-A in Figure 4; !tbspe.047/craigl 3 28 L, -~II 3a Figure 6 is a side elevation of the wall oven assembly shown in Figure 3, and Figures 7 and 8 are plan views of the grill drawer in

ii !tbspe.047/craigl 3 28 4 1 the closed and open positions.
2 Referring firstly to Figures 1 and 2 of the drawings, 3 it will be noted that existing wall oven assemblies may 4 comprise a microwave oven 1, a standard oven 2, a grill 3 and a control panel 4. In the case of the oven shown in 6 Figure 2, the grill 3 is located in the oven 2. As a matter 7 of practicality, the oven shown in Figure 1 is too high to 8 be conveniently located in a wall in a manner which provides 9 adequate access to the ovens 1 and 2 while still giving acceptable access to the grill 3. In the case of the oven 11 shown in Figure 2, while the overall height of the assembly 12 is acceptable, the location of the grill 3 within the oven 2 13 has been found to be unacceptable or undesirable.
14 Referring now to Figures 3 to 8 of the drawings, the embodiment of the invention shown in these Figures will be 16 seen to comprise a wall oven assembly including a microwave 17 oven 4, a standard oven 5 and a grill 6 mounted on a drawer 18 7 slidably supported in the oven assemDly and in which the 19 control panel 8 for the oven 5 and grill 6 is mounted on the door 9 which closes the grill cavity and defines the front S21 wall of the drawer 7. The drawer 7 preferably slidably 22 supports the grill tray assembly 10 of the grill 6 in the jI 23 manner shown best in Figure 5 of the drawings. It will be S24 noted from Figure 5 of the drawings that the drawer 7 has hollow side frames 11 supporting runner tracks 12, 13 which 26 are engaged by runner wheels 14,15 (other side not shown) so 27 that the drawer 7 may be freely moved into and out of the 28 grill cavity C in which the grill elements G (gas or 29 electric) are mounted.

The discharge path may alternatively be via a separate vent (not shown) rather than through the vent opening at the front of the oven assembly as shown.
It will noted that electric supply to the control panel 8 is via a flexible wire housing 18 which passes through one of the hollow side frames 11, as shown in Figure 5. Gas supply may be provided by means of a flexible hose.
Alternatively, control signals may be transmitted from the control panel 8 to a remote receiver which in turn controls the oven and grill functions.
It will be appreciated from the above that by locating the grill 6 within the space normally occupied by the control panel, a substantial saving in overall height is achieved. In fact, the height of the embodiment shown in Figure 3 is the same as the height of the existing wall oven shown in Figure 2 but the disadvantage of having the grill within the oven is avoided and all of the advantages of a separate grill are achieved without increasing the overall height of the assembly.
