0056 An ear-phone assembly has a transdr'er plate which Is clamped between housing components 1,.2 of the transducer. A piezo-electric layer 6, provided with electrodes 4,5, is bonded to one side of the transducer plate, The outwardly-facing housing component 2 of' the transducer Is provided with an annular holder for a coil 16, whose electrical termtnals 17 are connectedI to the same signal-supplying terminals of the assembly as are connected to ic the electrodes 4,5 of the transducer.

S S 0@ S. S 5 0 S @9 1 X 1A 1A AN EAR-PHONE ASSEMBLY FOR THE HARD-OF-HEARING This invention relates to a piezo-electric transducer for an ear-phone assembly for the hard-of-hearing, in particular in a telephone device, comprising a transducer plate whose edge zone is clamped between housing components of the transducer.
A transducer of this type is disclosed, for example, In German Patent Specification 19 61 217. Such a transducer is particularly suitable for an ear,.piece and mouth-piece of a telephone. The transducer is generally provided with a resonator in order to increase sensitivity in the transmission range.
If such transducers are to be used in telephones for the hard-of-hearing, special electrical provisions must be made. Thus, in an electro-dynamic transducer, it is known to couple inductively the oscillating coil of such a. transducer to the hearing-aid of the telephone user.
S sees It is an aim of the invention to provide measures whereby a piezo-electric transducer in an ear-phone can be coupled to a hearing-aid of the user of the ear-phone, According to this invention there is provided an ear-phone assembly for the hard-of-hearing, in particular for use in a telephone device, said assembly comprising a piezo-electric transducer plate whose edge zone is clamped between housing components of the transducer residing therewith, one of said housing components being outwardly-facing so as to be, when in use, adjacent the ear of the user, said transducer plate comprising a carrier of at least one piezo-electric layer which j IAD/10220

,q i ra il--i~-r i O0 -2is arranged on said carrier and is provided on both sides with pcraI llc electrodes, electrical terminals beingAconnected both to electrodes of the piezo-electric layer and to a coil arranged in an annular holder provided by the outwrdly-facing housing components.
Due to the arrangement of the coilin the ear-phone, in use the coil is closely adjacent the hearing-aid of the user, whereby the air space between the hearing-aid and the coil is at a minimum. As a result, the efficiency of the arrangement is substantially increased.
S: Due to the Grellel electrical connection of the coil to the b electrodes of the piezo-electric layer, the coil receives a signal current which has a waveform similar to the speech which is to be heard.
S.
As above, transducers in telephone technology are provided
*S
with various resonators in order to increase the sensitivity. In German Patent specification no. P 36 30 951.6 there is disclosed an arrangement for improving Lhe frequency response of an S electro-acoustic transducer,, In which the upper part of the housing Sis provided with annular recesses which are coupled via coupling openings to an ante-chamber associated with the transducer plate. The S 2,O recesses are covered, and thus acoustically sealed, by a cover plate which is locked In the central recess in the upper part of the housing.
In accordance with an advantageous further development, it is expedient to arrange on the outwardly-facing housing component of the transducer a cup-like cover which is provided with a central

opening and which has a radialy outwardly-facing peziphezal porion which is spaced from the housing component so as to provide accommodation for the coil.
In this way the transducer can be used for telephones for the hard-of-hiearlng. Furthermore, by virtue of the peripheral portion, the coil is completely covered in 'relation to the operator, thus substantially reducing the danger of electric shock.
•An embodiment of the invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawing, In which:- Fig. I is a side view of a piezo-electric transducer providing an ear-phone assembly embodying this invention; Fig. 2 is a plan view of the transducer shown in Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a section throngh half of the piezo-electric 'a transducer shown in Fig. 1.
The ear-phone assembly shown in the eirawlng comprises a piezo-electric transducer which consists of two housing components 1 and 2, between which is clamped a transducer plate. The transducer .5 plate consists of a carrier 3, to one side of which Is bonded a ceramic piezo-electric layer 6 provided on both sides with electrodes aO 4,5. The electrodes 4,5 are provided with terminal strips ot which the terminal strip 7 can be seen In Fig. 3. These terminal strips lead to cutting terminals 8,9 The housing component 2, which Is arranged in an ante-chamber of the transducer plate, is provided with resonators in the form of annular recesses (recess 10 can be seen In Fig. which 7 are coupled to the preliminary part of the transducer plate. The recesses are sealed by a cup-like cover 12 which is located on the housing component 2 and is provided with a central opening 11. The cover is positioned so as to be locked behind a recess of the housing component 2. A rib 13 prevents the cover 12 from rotating.
The cover 12 is provided with a peripheral Elange portion 14 which is directed radially outwards and which, when the cover is in the locked state, is arranged to be spaced from the housing component 2 and thus, together with this housing component, forms an annular holder 15 for a coil 16. In the same way as the terminal strips of the electrodes, terminals 17 of the coil 16 are connected to the cutting terminals 8,9.
