Patent Attorney P.O.Box 436 39 Cheviot Rd.) Mt.Waverley, VIC. 3149 Address for Service: Complete Specification for the invention entitled: SPA JET MIXING NOZZLE The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to me:-* "Note: The description is to be typed in double spacing, pica type face, in an area not exceeding 250 mm in depth and 160 mm in width, on tough white paper of good quality and it is to be inserted inside this form.
1171 0/76-L C. J. THoMT'SON, Commonwcalth Government Printer, Canberra 9; i 1' This form must be accompanied by either a provisional specification (Form 9 and true copy) or by a complete specification (Form 10 and true copy).
These sections are to be completed only where applicable..
C. J. TiHwO ONCommonwealth Govenmcnle Priner This invention relates generally to adjustable air/water mixing nozzles for spa-pool jets and more Particularly is concerned with a supplementary spa jet air/ water mixing nozzle, suitable for use with the jet of our Australian patent No. 534801 and is for an improvement in or modification of the spa-pool jet of the adjustable mixing nozzle of the main invention disclosed in the Complete Specification of the aforesaid parent specification.
a,0 In the main invention disclosed in patent No.
o*oQ a 534,801 there is described, claimed and illustrated, spa Se pool jet, adjustable air/water mixing nozzle with a central ,,air flow jet outlet tube of axially adjustable length with respect to the air delivery pipe which is disposed within S 15 an angularly, adjustable, swivel-action eyeball, air/water ;i jet flow direction control device which has a tapered cc' passage extending axially, completely therethrough, the i arrangement being to form a Venturi within the eyeball in association with the air flow tube and for controlling the direction of an air/water jet discharged through the eyeball which is mounted within a skirted pool wall mounting flange.
The improvement in, or modification of the main invention comprises the provision of a supplementary nozzle as an axially adjustable extension of the air flow in-l-e-t 4ube k \:VL o oa e Wlou& c-a kX/cc \-2 '4 o eLs -2- Signature elaranf.) (iMPORTANT.- Cross out inapplicable words iii the above Form.) More particularly and preferably, the supplementary nozzle member has an external diameter for a portion of its length which is less than the diameter of the eyeball and is adapted to be interposed between the eyeball and air delivery tube.
Preferably, the supplementary nozzle member is externally threaded for hand rotation adjustment within an internally threaded portion of the eyeball and is movable angularly together with the eyeball.
0 010 Still more preferably, the supplementary nozzle is 0000 0000 provided with a triple start screw thread, extending 0 00 0 00 0000 C, o axially along substantially the entire length thereof to 000 0000 provide maximum axial movement with minimal rotational 00 a 00 01 movement, one or outer end of the nozzle preferably being in the form of a knurled hand-adjustment screw knob, while 0 0 a 0 0 V' 0 0a the other or inner end is provided with an annular groove 0 00a 0 0 f 0 00 for mounting a retaining member, such as a circlip therein 0000o4 forming an outward axial movement, limit stop for the 0 t t 000 L nozzle to prevent the nozzle falling off the eyeball.
020Q. One example of an embodiment of the invention will 0 now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 is a vertical, sectional view of the spa pool supplementary jet nozzle according to the invention assembled into an existing, adjustable air/water mixing nozzle outlet.
-A
0PTN OFIE Am~~ i Figure 2 is a side elevation of the supplemental nozzle with triple start, external screw thread.
Figure 3 is an inverse plan view of the supplemental nozzle.
Referring to the drawings, the reference numerals of which are numbered in sequence, beginning with reference numeral 10 to avoid confusion with the drawing numbers, there is shown in Figure i, an adjustable air/water mixing !I jet for hydro massage in spa pools and spa baths and which t comprises a main hollow body portion 10, housing an air a C T inlet nozzle 11 which is screw threaded into the housing air pipe delivery portion 12 for axial adjustment movement i! r into and out of the housing and within the eyeball 13 r C 3 which is an angularly, adjustable swivel action, jet flow direction, control device. The cylindrical bore portion 14 of the eyeball is provided with a threaded portion for hand rotating in and out therein, the externally threaded portion of the hand-adjustment extension or supplementary jet 15 which is provided with a triple-start, sharp Vtooth screw thread producing maximum axial directional movement with only minimal hand adjustment, rotational movement required when turning the knurled hand knob 16 on the outer end of the extension jet. A single turn or partial turn of the knob will result in substantial linear (axial) movement of the jet for controlling the degree of air/water mixing at the air/water outlet.
-4- C UII~ The inner end of the threaded extension jet 15 is provided with an annular groove for receiving a circlip 17 therein to prevent the jet from falling out of the eyeball. The extension jet 15 is provided with a wide diameter bore 18 of uniform diameter throughout its length and the inner end has an inwardly bevelled rim 19 for sealing engagement with the curved external surface of the bulbous head 20 of the air delivery nozzle 11. The front of the eyeball is retained by oo0 °ooi an O-ring 21 which is retained in the forwardly o 0 elongated, flanged mounting member 22 which has a .clearance space 23 therein to allow angular movement 0 :0 therein of the jet extension hand knob 16. A space ring 24 spaces the mounting flange from the jet body.
The rear of the eyeball is retained against the r bearing insert 25 by spring 26, abutting rear flange 27 of the flanged wall mounting member. An eyeball 0 swivel movement flange stop member 28 is provided to leae0 limit the extent of arcuate movement of the eyeball.
