la- DEVICE FOR HOLDING CONNECTOR BANT.S IN TELECOMMUNICATION SYSTEMS The invention relates to an arrangement for holding connector banks in telecommunication systems.
An arrangement for this purpose is known from DE 2811812, In said arrangement, a U-shaped curved mounting bracket is used as a mounting support, the side walls of said mounting support being provided with tongues as connecting elements for plugging-on the connector banks. Such a mounting bracket can be employed free-standing for distribution frames or as a wall distributor. It is disadvantageous, herein, that the tongues cause a risk of injury, if no connector banks are plugged-on, It is disadvantageous, further, that the tongues determine the spacing such that for a different spacing or for a different mounting support height, another mounting bracket having a diffeient spacing of the tongues must be used.
The invention is based, therefore, on the object of providing an arrangement for holding connector banks in telecommunication systems, with which there is little or no risk of injury originating from a mounting support and in which the distance of connector banks mounted on the mounting support from each other is adjustable.

L
-2- According to the present invention, there is provided an arrangement of mounting connector banks in a telecommunication system, including a pair of generally parallel rails secured in use by means of at least one support, said rails having smooth or substantially smooth elongate mounting surfaces, the connector banks each being provided with mounting means for mounting that connector bank on the pair of rails at a position along the rails which can be selected from a range of positions along the length of the rails, such that a plurality of connector banks can be mounted on the pair of rails at pre-selectable distances from one another, said mounting means in use fitting about each of the rails to mount the rc-eective connector bank by engaging a portion of the mounting surface of each rail in .uch a way that the mounting means may be detached from one rail of the pair of rails and pivoted about the other rail of the pair whilst remaining attached thereto.
Preferably said range of positions is continuously variable.
Because in embodiments of the invention, a smooth or substantially smooth rail is used as a mounting support, instead of a support having fixed tongues thereon, there is virtually no risk of injury even without connector banks being fastened to the support, A cording to embodiments of the invention, the connector banks are, further, latched on the rails with snap elements as connecting elements, said connecting elements being displaceable along the rails. Thus, the spacing, ie the distance between adjacent connecting elements, can be selected without constraints imposed by the design of the mounting support. Furthermore, it is possible to wire a connector bank i already latched on the rails and then to move it to a desired distance from another 5 connector bank already mounted and v' 'ed on the rails.
In the following, the invention is described in more detail, by way of erample only and based on several embodiments of the invention for holding connector banks in telecommunication systems, with reference to the accompanying drawings. The wall distributor shown in Fig. I comprises five pairs of round-section bars 1 being arranged in parallel to each other and forming section rails, said round-section bars being fastened at the upper and lower end to a wall by means of support sections 2. The lower support section 2 is a base plate 3 shown in more detail in Fig. 6, said base plate 3 presenting at the lower end a support bank 4, and at the upper end a screw plate b-ing each fixed in a wall not-shown by means of screws 6. In a slot 7 extending horizontally, a clamp 8 for fastening a cable to be connected is arranged. At the upper side of the base plate 3, tongues 9 are bent off, said tongues 9 accommodating the lower ends of the round-section bars 1.
The support sections 2 provided at the upper ends of the round-section bars 1 are shaped according to the base plates 3 shown in more detail in Fig. 6, but are mounted 6 after turning by 1800. In the tongues 9, the upper ends of the round-section bars 1 are fixed.
On the round-section bars 1 extending in parallel to each other, connector banks 10 are snapped-on, said connector banks 10 being described below in more detail.
Fig. 2 shows the left-side end of a free-standing cable box, the support sections 2 of which consist of a bottom plate 12, an upper shutting-off plate 13, and a side wall 11 connecting the bottom plate 12 and the shutting-off plate 13 in rigid manner with each other. The round-section bars 1 are inserted into support positions 14 placed on the bottom plate 12 and are connected with the upper shutting-off plate 13 in clamping manner, as shown in Figs. 7 and 8 in more detail. The round-section bars 1 exhibit at their upper ends annular grooves and the shutting-off plates 13 exhibit slots 16 being provided with different slot widths and exhibiting one clamping piece 17 each extending in slot direction being formed from the metal material of the shutting-off plates 13. The upper ends of the round-section bars 1 are inserted into the respective slot 16 such that the round-section bars 1 are first inserted through the slot section having a width being larger than the diameter of the round-section bars 1, and are, then, displaced in longitudinal direction of the slot 16 into a slot section having a width smaller than Lh. diameter of the round-section bars 1. Herewith, the slot walls 18 engage into the annular groove 15 of the respective round-section bar 1, as shown in Fig. 7. Then, the round-section bar 1 is pressed up to the end of the slot 16 opposite to the free end of the clamping piece 17, and the clampjing piece 17 is pressed according to Fig. 8 by deformation into the free part of the t!hnular groove 15. The round-section bar 1 is, then, connected safely with the upper shutting-off plate 13 as support section 2.
-7 On the round-section bars 1 each being arranged in parallel to each other in a certain predetermined distance, connector banks 10 are latched, which are described below in more der.ail.
Fig. 3 shows the arrangement of four vertical rows of connector banks in form of a column-type cable box, the rows of connector banks being staggered with respect to each other by 900 each around a circular base area. The two-piece bottom plate 19 of the support section 2 is -in similar way as the bottom plate 12 according to Fig. 2 provided with sleeve-type support positions 14, into which the lower ends of the round-section bars 1 are inserted. The upper shutting-off plate 20 of the support section is provided with slots 16 corresponding to the upper shutting-off plate 13 according to Figs. 7 and 8, to which the upper ends of the round-section bars 1 are connected in the same way as shown in Figs. 7 and 8. The bottom plate 19 and the upper shutting-off plate 20 are shaped substantially rectangularly, two round-section bars 1 each being arranged on one side. On the round-section bars 1, connector banks 10 are latched, said connector banks 10 being described below in more detail. The column-type cable box is rotatable by its longitudinal axis. For this purpose, the bottom plate 19 has a central annular part 67 being rotatable with respect to the bottom plate 19.
Fig. 4 shows a cable box support for connector banks L} formed by several uhiversal connecting elements 40 being extensible as desired in all three spatial planes. The connecting elements 40 arranged at the intersections of these round-section bars 1 dre described later in more detail.
Fig. 5 shows two round-section bars 1 arranged in parallel to each other and fastened by means of screws 21 on a support section 2 not shown in more detail, on snid -8round-section bars 1 connector banks 10 being latchable in a manner described later. This arrangement serves, for installation in a branching terminal block.
Figs. 9 and 10 show a connector bank 10 in perspective representations obliquely from above and obliquely from below. The connector bank 10 consists of an upper part 22 and of a lower part 23 formed each from plastic and being latchable with each other. In a manner not shown in more detail, cutting/clamping contacts are inserted into slots 24, said cutting/clamping contacts serving for connection of connecting wires. Such a connector bank consisting of a lower part and of an upper part latchable with the latter and of integrated cutting/clamping contacts is described in more detail in DE 28 04 478 to which reference is made explicitly. In contrast to the known lower part, the lower part of the connector bank 10 exhibits on both sides connecting elements 25 being formed from curved extensions 26 integral with the lower part 23, said extensions 26 having a peripheral angle of more than 1800. The inner diameter of the curved extensions 26 corresponds to the outer diameter of the ro id-section bars 1. On account of the design of the connector banks 10 and, in particular, of the lower part 23 made from plastic, the side walls of the curved extensions 26 are elastic such that they can be pressed over the round-section bar 1 and can be latched on it. The curved extensions 26 have on the outside rectangular wire guide tongues 27 having a slot in the center. Pass-through slots 28 extend in parallel to the outer walls of the upper part 22 through the curved extensions, into which metal earthing contact tongues 29 (Fig. 11) can be inserted, said earthing contact tongues 29 being clamped on the round-section bars I having ground potential and on which from above, contact terminals not shown in detail of an overvoltage suppressor magazine insertable into the connector bank 10 being clampable, as described in more detail in DE 28 11 812.
9 The earthing contact tongues 29 have in the lower section three curved tongues 68, the inner contour being adapted to the round-section bars 1. At a tongue 68 of the earthing contact tongue 29, a contacting tongue 69 is formed being designed in the same kind as the earthing contact tongue 54 according to Fig. 19 described later, and which engages into a chamber 70 open toward top of the connfctor bank 10. The lower part 23 of the connector bank 10 exhibits, further, on the outside of the curved extensions 26 insertion, slots 30 serving for lifting-off the connector bank 10 from the position latched with a round-section bar 1 by means of a screwdriver not shown in more detail. Further, additional wire guide tongues 31 are formed on the underside of the lower part 23.
For arrangement of the connector banks 10 on the round-section bars 1 with desired identical distances, according to Figs. 12 and 13, spacer clips 32 and 33 made from plastic are provided. The spacer clips 32 according to Fig, 12 ale prefabricated as bar-type meter material and can be broken off individually, The spacer clips 33 are fabricated as individual parts from plastic. Both spacer clips 32, 33 are formed as annular disk parts, the opening angle of which being smaller than 180°, such that they can, because of their elastic construction, be latched on round-section bars 1, for the inner diameter of the spacer clips 32, 33 corresponds to Sthe outer diameter of the round-section bars 1.
Figs. 14 and 15 show accommodation elements 34 of plastic to be plugged together for the metal round-section bars 1. The accommodation elements 34 consist of two pairs of clamping tongues 35 arranged on the upper side, into said clamping tongues 35 round-section bars 1 being latchable, and of bottom-side tubular sections 36 of plastic being surrounded by outer side walls 37. As is shown in Fig. 14, the upper clamping tongues 35 of a II~ 10 lower accommodation element 34 engage between the side walls 37 of an upper accommodation element 34, and embrace the lower tubular sections 36 of the accommodation element 34 in similar way as the upper clamping tongues 35 embrace a round-section bar 1. The accommodation elements 34 serve for generating a distance of the round-section bars 1 from a support section 2 not shown in more detail.
According to Fig. 16, such a support section 2 can be formed of a support rail 38, on which a specially designed latch clip 39 is slid having clamping tongues on its upper side, with which the latch clip 39 with accommodation elements 34 according to Figs. 14 and can be connected, thus offering the possibility to arrange round-section bars 1 in desired distance to support rails 38.
Fig. 17 shows a universal connecting element 40 as intersection for several meeting round-section bars 1.
Between two parallelly extending round-sectit i bars 1 each, connector banks 10 are snapped-on (Fig, The universal connecting element 40 consists of two identical half shells 41, which exhibit crossing, semicircularly shaped grooves 42, the radius of which corresponds to the radius of the round-section bars 1. At the intersection of the grooves 42, there is a through-bore 43 extending vertically, the diameter of which corresponds to the outer diameter of the round-section bars 1. A corner 44 of each half shell 41 is cut free and is connected with the through-bore 43. At the corner opposite on the same side of the half shell 41 a section piece 46 corresponding to the cut-free cornei 44 is provided, the section piece 46, on one hand, and the opposite corner, on the other hand, presenting, further, additional guide pieces and guide grooves 47 or 48, resp. In total four Allen screws serve for rigid connection of the two ftalf shells 41 and, thus, for rigid clamping of the ends of the round-section bars 1 to be connected. Of the four Allen screws 49, two extend in parallel to the through-bore 43, and two across to the latter.
Figs. 18 to 20 show the individual assembly of the connector bank 10 described here, without being snapped on the round-section bars 1. For this, special mounting adapters 50 are provided (Fig. 18), which are inserted into the outer wire guide tongues 27 of the connector bank and which are screwed, together with the connector bank 10, on a flat plate 51 by means of screw elements 55. The mounting adapters 50 have, in turn, wire guide tongues 53 replacing the wire guide tongues 27 of the connector bank 10 occupied by the mounting adapter 50. Into the pass-through slots 28 of the curved extensions 26, earthing contact tongues 54 are inserted, which serve in similar way as the earthing contact tongues 29 for connection with an overvoltage suppressor magazine plugged on the connector bank 10. The earthing cqntact tongues 54 can be lined up according to Fig, 19 by plugging together, Figs. 21 and 22 show an accommodation sheet 55 with bent-off, curved tongues 56, the shape of which is adapted to the round-section bars 1, such that on the tongues 56 of the accommodation sheet 55, a connector bank 10 can be snapped-on. In this way, shielded cables 57, 58 4an be connected to connector banks 10, connecting clamps 59, 60 fixing the cables 57, 58. Although, in Fig. 22, only one single connector bank 10 is represented, several connector banks 10, of course, can also bheplugged-on one beside the other on an accommodation sheet 55 being correspondingly longer on the bent tongues 56, thus a cable terminal block being formed.
The tongues 56 have earthing contact tongues 291 engaging into the slots 28 of the extensions 26 of the connector bank -12 Figs. 23 and 24 show the arrangement of basica, sown wire guide disks 61 at the connector banks 10, for which purpose special, not-shown latch elements are provided on the side faces of the connector banks 10 for snapping the wire guide disks 61 on.
Fig. 25 shows a strain relief device 62 being snapped-on, in similar way as the wire guide disks 61, laterally on the connector bank 10. The strain relief device 62 comprises a guide piece 63 for a flat cable 64 disposed spaced to the connector bank 10, the flat cable 64 being laid-in, according to Fig. 26, from underneath the connector bank 10 between guide piece 63 and side wall of the connector bank 10, additional C-shaped guide pieces 65 being provided at the strain relief device 62. After inserting the flat cable 64, the guide piece 63 is pressed into the C-shaped guide piece 65, as indicated bn the arrow in Fig. 28. The flat cable 64 is, thus, fixed safely in the strain relief device 62.
Fig. 27 shows a 19" case 66 with a rear wall wiring bank 71 arranged in the intirior at the rear end of the case 66, said rear wall wiring bank 71 being shaped according to the connector batk 10. The rear wall wiring bank 71 is latched on two round-section bars I, one round-section bar 1' being connected with a support rail 72. By loosening a fastening screw 73, the support rail 72 is loosened from the case 66 ;ogether with the section rail 1K Several wiring banks 71 arranged one behind the other can, thus, be folded out from the rear section of the 19" case, as indicated by the arrow in Fig. 27. The wiring banks 71 with the curved extensions 26 turn around the round-section bar I connected firmly with the 19" case 66.
