Co riplete Specification for the invention entitled: Th following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to Th(! following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to _LJ LL (Namneof -2- BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a tyre, and more particularly to a tyre permitting continuing usage after pierced by a nail.
The conventional air filled tyre used for a motorcycle or a car will leak contained air through the pierced hole if pierced by a nail or the like -to thus make the motorcycle or the car inoperative or inadequate for being driven if it does not have a spare tyre or have the pierced tyre replaced. In order to overcome this disadvantage, it has been proposed that the groundcontacting, wall of the tyre should be embedded with kinds of reinforcing layers or that the tyre be divided into *independent air-chambers. The former, however, can only I~ls reduce the opportunity of getting a pierced tyre and slow down the air-leaking rate of the pierced tyre, still C t Cleaving the motorcycle or the car suffering from the above disadvantage. The latter at least envisages thn. problems of a high cost and an uneven wearing.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a Lyre capable of only leaking a very small amount of air if pierced by a nail or the like.
*0 tt It is further an object of the present invention 2~5 to provide a tyre tapable of only leaking further a very small amount of air upon pulling the nail off the tyre without the need of getting the tyre repaired.
According to the present invention, a tyre incluides a tyre body to be matched against a tyre frame and a layer of glutinous elastic material applied on the inner surface of the tyre body for being capable of immediately molecule-cohering if the tyro is pierced by a nail to so prevent the tyre from air-leaking.
The present invention may best be understood ~through the following description wi-_h reference to the accompanying drawings in which: BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS Figure 1 is a sectional view showing a preferred embodiment of a tyre according to the present invention; -3- Figure 2A is a schematic view showing a tyre in Figure 1 initially pierced by a nail; Figure 2B is a schematic view showing a tyre in Figure 1 having being pierced by a nail; Figure 2C is a schematic view shm-ing a tyre in Figure 2B upon being pulled therefrom the nail; and Figure 2D is a schematic view showing the state of a pierced tyre after the piercing nail has been pulled therefrom.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT Referring now to Figure 1, a tyre according to the present invention includes a tyre body 10 having an annular ground-contracting wall 11 having a tyre tread 13 and two opposite side walls 12 integrally and generally 15 laterally extending from two opposite sides of ground- 1 contacting wall 11 to terminate as two tyre lips 15 capable of being matched against two opposite sides 21 of an annular tyre frame 20 when the tyre is air-filled, and a layer of glutinous elastic material 30 applied upon the inner surface of tyre body 10 and being thicker at ground-contacting wall 11 than at side walls 12.
The glutinous elastic layer 30 has the following characteristics: 1. It has a good adhesiveness so that it can be applied upon the inner surface of tyre body 10 without an adhesive.
2. It has an excellent elasticity so that it can accommodate itself to the deformation, of tyre body in a moving car and will not deteriorate the roadability 30 of the car.
3. It can endure a high temperature up to about 100°C so that the frictional heat generated by the tyre of a high speed car cannot disengage it from tyre body 4. It has a good anti-oxidazability so that it will not age to be inoperative during the lifetime of tyre body It has a strong molecular cohesion so that Styre body 10 can achieve the functions to be described 1 Lr;w~ hereinafter.
As shown in Figure 2A, when a nail 40 pierces into wall 11 and layer 30, the tyre will initially lead the air through the pierced hole 41 but within about 1 second, as shown in Figure 2B, the molecules of layer 30 around pierced hole 41 will immediately cohere together and tightly match around nail 40 with the assistance of the high pressure air in the tyre to block the tyre air from leaking further through pierced hole 41 which now only in ground-contracting wall 11 has a peripheral clearance.
Upon pulling nail 40 off the tyre, as shown in Figure 2C, the tyre air will again initially leak through pierced hole 41 but within 1 or 2 seconds, as shown in Figure 2D, the 1 0 molecules of layer 30 around pierced hole 41 will rapidly cohere and match together to only leave a seam replacing the original layer hole 41 so that the tyre air is blocked from leaking through pierced hole 41 and the tyre need not be repaired except that it may be desired to be somewhat pressurised.
The layer of glutinous elastic material 30 may be prepared by stirring and heating "5 the constituents of a plasticiser of 77-97% by weight, a resin of 3-15% by weight, a thixotropic thickening agent of 0-2% by weight, a stabiliser of 0-2% by weight, a stabiliser enhancer of 0-2% by weight and a surfactant of 0-2% by weight. As an example, by weight, the plasticiser being diundecyl phthalate (DUP) or dioctyl phthalate (DOP) or duisononyl phthalate (DTNP) occupies 84-93%, the resin being PVC 6-12%, the thixotropic thickening agent being S102 the stabiliser being Zinc tin stabiliser the stabiliser enhancer being Soyoil and the surfactant being Surfysol 104A occupies Soyoil is a trade mark of a stabiliser enhancer available as Interstab Plastoflex 2307 from John Watson Company, Dallas, Texas, USA. Surfysol 104A is a trade mark of a surfactant available from Spencer Kellogg Division of Textron Inc, Buffalo, NY, USA.
Through the above description, it should now become readily apparent how and why the present invention can achieve the objects it contemplates.
