SPECIFICATION
Foliar spraying agent Background of the Invention Field of the Art This invention relates to a method of improving physiological activity of a plant comprising spraying on the leaves of the plant a foliar spraying agent obtained by subjecting vegetable humus to activation treatment and water extraction. Vegetable humus (or humus soil) referred to 10 herein after as hereinbefore defined is a material made by ,ce d-e-c o-r eeqabe- ,wfter -rgradual -haioa' ha-r- n including fermentation from vegetable material and deposited in water of bottom of sea, lake, etc. for a long period of time.
i, Background of the Art The inventor of the present application filed a prior Japanese patent application No. Sho 55-94563 for an invention relating to gas adsorbing deodorizing and sterilizing composition which is obtained by subjecting a vegetable humus to oxidation with air and drying. This 20 application was examined and published (as Japanese patent publication Sho 62-1362) and registered (as a patent No.
1393474).
Application of this composition are now being developed in many fields. Their forms are varied for example, they are powder, aqueous extracted liquid, granules, etc. depending upon the application field.
This invention relates to the application field of aqueous extract form among the above-mentioned form. This aqueous extract will be referred to herein as Hyumaselurabin (Registered Trade Mark in Japan). Tae inventor of this application advanced research work with an object of producing compositions having further powerful sterilizing power, deodorizing and gas adsorbing properties by the air treatment of vegetable humus and filed an application for an invention entitled "a method for activating vegetable humus; 1~ 0 Japanese patent application Sho 57-144615. The activation e. I of vegetable humus is a collective expression of I reinforcement of deodorizing action, gas adsorbing property and bacteriostatic action, etc. The inventor of this invention inferred that, in the activation of vegetable humus, the action of microorganisms, particularly, the action of aerobic microorganisms plays a significant part together with oxidation action of oxygen in air. He found that, as condition for treatment, contact with air should be carried out at a temperature and a humidity such that *9es reactions caused by microorganisms proceed as smoothly and sufficiently as possible, and it is an important point of activation. Thus, the decision of publication was made on August 10, Showa 62 (1987) with regard to "a method for activating vegetable humus" (Japanese patent publication No.
Sho 62-37003) which defines the condition for activating vegetable humus. This is the meaning of the phrase "grinding vegetable humus and contacting the ground 2 4-1A V lT E i$KLY u 0\T8 L i vegetable humus with air to activate the vegetable humus" which is referred in the scope of claim for patent of the present invention.
By way of the treatments above-mentioned, activated vegetable humus greatly improves its own gas adsorbing property, deodorizing power and bacteriostatic action, but at the same time unexpectable effectivenesses have been discovered one after another.
Point of Problem to be Solved by the Invention 10 During the course of development of application fields for hyumaselurabin (trademark J 1588035) the inventor of the present application found tht it has a property which improves water raising of cut flower and superior effectiveness for keeping flowers alive and filed an application for preserving agent for cut flowers e 1 3 :Ell r^ ^1 Point of Problem to be Solved by the Invention During the course of development of application fields for hyumaselurabin the inventor of the present application found that it has a property which improves water raising of cut flower and superior effectiveness for keeping flowers alive and filed an application for preserving agent for cut flowers (Japanese patent application Sho 57-14776). Later, while the inventor of this application has been observing a great number of water raising of cut flowers and cut leaves, he found that there are some plants which create roots from cut parts. Further, from the effectiveness of recovering vigor of plant and tree observed in case of flower arrangement, he gradually paid attention to this physiological effects to plants of hyumaselurabin. While he was working to advance the development work for application of hyumaselurabin in which physiological effect can be utilized, he found that this material has superior effectiveness as foliar spraying agent and completed the present invention.
Hyumaselurabin is an aqueous extract obtained by immersing activated vegetable humus in hot water followed by stirring and filtering. This material shows usually pH of ~L c- 1 i 3 or less, Brix degree of 0.4 or more, but as a preserving agent for cut flowers, those which have been diluted with water by 30 to 50 times the original, is adequate.
Disclosure of the Invention It has been known since older times that plants have ability of absorbing nutrient not only from roots but also from leaves, but it is said that starting of practical use in agriculture is from about 1940. The advantageous point of foliar spraying over fertilizer application to soil, is that it serves the purpose with a relatively small amount of material, but shows quick effectiveness.
The foliar spraying agents which is now practically used, are in the state containing not only macro nutrient fertilizer such as nitrogen, phosphoric acid, potassium or the like but also so-called trace elements each solely or in properly combined state depending upon its object. In short, since they are used with an object of supplying i deficient elements rapidly, it is said to be necessary to select deficient elements properly and apply foliar spray at a proper concentration depending upon kinds, time of growth of plants and symptoms of deficiency.
The inventor of the present invention, paid attention .Occ .4A4 ."V i to the life-extension effectiveness of hyumaselurabin via improving water raising of cut-flowers and the effectiveness of recovery of plant or tree vigor and he tried foliar spraying, selecting tea leaves as test object with an expectation that hyumaselurabin can develop physiological activity effect to plant rapidly.
Namely hyumaselurabin to be tested (pH 3.0, Brix degree 0.6) was diluted with water and prepared 500 time, 800 time and 1000 time diluted solutions respectively. One week before tea-defoliation, foliar sprayings were conducted with each of the above-mentioned dilution of hyumaselurabin. When yields of tea-leaves within a frame of 30 cm square, carried out by hand picking, were compared by weighing, it was found that hi-her the concentration of Hyumaselurabin, higher the yield is, and increase of yields of the solutions of 1000 time magnifications, 800 time magnifications and 500 time magnifications were 1.17 times, 1.34 times and 1.40 times, respectively.
At the same time, it was observed that the lustre and the color of the leaves improved, thickness of leaves increased and vigor of stems of leaves improved.
It is surprising that such significant difference ap- 7 considered at the same time.
Further, foliar sprayings were tried for strawberry, melon, watermelon, cucumber, tomato, seedling of egg plant, spinach, broad bean, Chinese cabbage, Kinusaya (a kind of pea), Miendo (another kind of pea), Kanran (a kind of orchid), omoto (Rhodea japonica), chrysanthemum, young rice plant, tobacco plant, horse radish (in the forest) and Chinese mustard. Dilution magnification was standard at 1000 2000 times for vegetables, because if concentration is too high, there may occur danger of chemicals damage. For trees, a slightly concentrated than the above-mentioned, e.g. 800 1000 time magnification was standard.
1 0 As for spraying amount, 100 150 liter per 10 ares (0.247 acres), 2 or 3 times spraying, at 1 to 3 weeks before crop is standard.
!As for the foliar spraying of hyumaselurabin this leads to the development of physiological activity of the plant (as referred to hereinafter in the claims as hereinbefore defined), which includes both increase of crop and improvement of quality which is remarkable, particularly repellent effectiveness to pest such as leaf-plantinfesting acarid (mite). Namely, root spreading, and vigor or leaf-stem become better and probability of appearance of new buds becomes larger. Bearing of S

As for the foliar spraying of hyumazclurabin, both increase of crop and improvement of quality are arkable, particularly repellent effe eness to pest such as leaf-plant-infestin rid (mite). Namely, root spreading, an 'gor of leaf-stem become better and probability af appearance of- nobuds becomes!-arger.--Bearing of flower bud is increased and color and lustre of flowers and leaves are thickened. Infesting with acarid becomes less and pathogenic fungi are controlled. The result of the..above-mentioned facts brings about increase of yield and improvement of quality.
In hyumaselurabin the content of adequate amount of minerals such as manganese, iron, sodium, calcium, magnesium, copper, zinc, molybdenum, etc. and the existence of various kinds of amino acids as well as various kinds of vitamin are confirmed. Further, the content of other non confirmed components, probably derived from microorganisms are inferred.
The effectiveness of hyumaselurabin, as a foliar spraying agent seems to be the collective effect of these various kinds of component.
Hyumaselurabin is used usually by itself, but it does 8 C_ not matter even when urea or other foliar spraying fertilizer, or agricultural chemicals is admixed depending upon their necessity.
Best Mode for Reduction of the Invention into Practice (Example 1) Hyumaselurabin original liquid (pH 3.0, Brix degree 0.6) were diluted to prepare 500 time, 800 time and 1000 time diluted solution and foliar sprayings were applied to tea leaves in each case. As control, foliar spraying was conducted at the same time with water alone. The gist of spraying manner is, spraying once at one week before picking (tea-picking) (June 5, Kagoshima Prefecture). Sprayings were conducted at the east side of tea field and at the west side thereof to check the influence according to position. At one week after spraying, pickings were conducted by hand picking and weight of tea leaves gathered within 30 cm frame was weighed and results shown below were obtained.
