Complete Specification for the invention entitled:
CONDOM
The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to me: -1- 901015,wpftdisk6,pi6904.cap, 1 1A-
CONDOM
This invention relates to a contraceptive device for men.
Typically a condom comprises a latex sheath worn ov much of the penis.
Conception is prevented by the retention of the semen within the condom. The condom is thus also used to help prevent the spread of semen carried diseases such as AIDS.
Since the conventional condom covers substantially the entire penis, much erogenous tissue is covered, thus lessening the enjoyment of the male. In addition, the semen may not be wholly contained within the reservoir and may leak.
Embodiments of the present invention seek to provide an improved condom.
According to the present invention there is provided a condom comprising a cap adapted to fit over the head of a penis, the cap comprising inner and outer layers defining a chamber therebetween, said inner layer having an opening for passage of semen into the chamber to be retained therein and ribs provided between the inner and outer layers in order to separate the inner and outer layers and facilitate the passage of the semen into the chamber, the inner and outer layers being attached one to the other.
Advantageously, the inner and outer layers are attached one to the other by 25 the ribs which are of substantially annular form and are spaced apart longitudinally from the opening along a longitudinal axis defined through the center of the opening.
Further, the ribs may have openings defined therein through which the semen may flow.
.e 930716,p:\oper\mab,64644-90.LlI -2- Advantageously, the inner layer has on its outer surface an adhesive for holding the condom in place on the penis.
Advantageously, the outer layer is made thicker than the inner layer thus increasing its strength and hence safety.
The condom will now further be described by way of example only with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a condom in accordance with a preferred embodiment of the invention; Figure 2 is a view of the underside of a lower cap of the condom; Figure 3 is a perspective view showing an alternative adhesive means; Figure 4 is a view of a further aspect of the invention; Figures 5 and 6 show attachments which can be adhered to the condom.
With reference to Figure the condom comprises a cap which fits over the glans of the penis and has a lower or inner layer 1 and an upper or outer layer 2, joined along their lower perimeter by rib 3, and defining a chamber therebetween.
Inner layer 1 has an opening 6, to overlie the urethral opening, in order to provide 25 an entrance for the semen 8 into the chamber. Annular spaced ribs 4, placed between the layers 1, 2, separate the layers and attach them one to the other. The ribs have openings 9 defined therein for allowing the flow of semen within the eell o 930716,p:\oper\mab,64644-90L1, 2 chamber. The forward thrust of the penis during intercourse would tend to stretch the upper cap 2 and force it against the lower cap 1. The ribs 4 are thus provided to help prevent the overstretching and possible tearing of the upper cap 2. In addition, the separation of the caps 1, 2 by the ribs 4 help prevent the blocking of the opening 6 by the upper cap 2 and facilitates the passage of the semen into and within the chamber.
In order to facilitate the placement of the condom on the glans, outer layer 2 has a clear apex 5, which lies above opening 6. To provide further stimulation of the female as well as to stabilise the inner ribbed section, the upper layer 2 may be provided with external ribs 7. The forward thrust of the 06o0 penis will tend to push the external ribbed section onto the inner ribs 4, the inner ribs 4 will then be forced downwardly on the penis. This downward pressure will help keep the condom in position. The upper layer 2 may also 15 be provided with a lubricant in order to facilitate the penetration of tje penis into the vagina.
The condom is generally retained on the penis by an adhesive. As oshown in Figure 2, the outer surface of the lower layer is covered with an 20 adhesive. Prior to application of the condom, the adhesive may be covered by two pieces of a peelable protective layer comprising inner and outer rings 11. To place the condom in the correct position inner ring 10 is peeled off and the condom is positioned on the penis. Finger pressure activates the adhesive. Outer ring 11 is then peeled off and the remainder of the condom is 25 adhered to the penis providing an effective seal.
According to a further embodiment, as shown in Figure 3, the lower layer may be provided with a band of adhesive 12 around its perimeter and suction caps 13 on the inner portion, to provide a further means of attachment.
901015,wpfLdisk6,pj6904.cap,3 -4- The upper layer is covered by a clear peel-off covering to keep the condom hygienic prior to use. This covering may be removed once the condom is attached to the penis exposing the lubricated top layer.
According to another aspect of the invention the condom comprises only a single layer with no reservoir. This will contain the semen within the shaft of the penis.
Another aspect of the invention, as shown in Figure 4, provides for the condom to consist of only a single layer 14 and a reservoir 15 to contain the semen.
If greater protection is required, the cap may be joined to a tube-like sheath adapted to substantially cover the shaft of the penis. For easy use, the 15 sheath may be provided in the roll-down form used by many conventional condoms.
Attachments, Figure 5, may be adhered on the condom to provide added stimulation and enjoyment for the female. The attachments may be of *6 in Figure 5 ci\d 17 in Fbure 6.
20 various shapes and sizes as shown by.
4 and 17 in Figur 5- They are adhered to the condom 19 by a suitable adhesive 18.
A conventional condom has a rubbery taste and is thus not conducive to oral sex. To overcome this disadvantage, the condom of the invention may be 25 fabricated from material impregnated with a suitable flavouring, or be coated with a suitable flavouring. The condom may also be made in various colours.
The embodiments have been described, by way of example only and modifications are possible within the scope of the invention.
