(see Pamphlets explaining formal requirements of specfications and drawings) 4444 TO BE COMPLETED BY APPLICANT N ofApplcanvJOHN GERARD HAW Address for Service: 27JOHN STRE ET MAFFRA VIC Details of Associated Provisional Applications: Nos: 4 The following statement Is a full description of this Invention, Including the best method of performing It known to me:- 1 ANTENNA SWITCH The invention relates to improvements in switch mechanisms.
Switches have some restriction in the mode of activating the operating part, requiring some understanding of the mode of operation. They require a degree of co-ordination to operate.
They are often complex in construction and fragile. Safety switches, switches for the disabled, sensing switches, in many applications switches are thus restricted.
The present invention is a flexible switch made of flexible 10o components, these flexible components being the active contacting component and the operating part crre poe.
t Scc The switch can in its simple form be operated by force from any direction that can be applied to flex the said switch.
An essential feature of this switch is that the two active S 15 contacting components are flexible but of different construction. When the switch is subjected to force both Sr components flex but form different arcs.
A ten 4 ing one closed wound; fully compressed in its c natur I state; when flexed, forms an arc which lengthens, ec 20 where as a y-mpa wa 9- cable or flexible b-4b material will not form an arc which is lengthened to the same degree.
This invention makes use of these principals.
A flexible component may be a spring of flat, round or other stock. They may be con tructed being tubular, cylindrical, conical and may be square, oval or other in section.

-2- A flexible component may be a cable, wire or any conductive flexible material; the flexible components being the conductors.
One flexible component being tubular and enclosing the other over its length; and holding this other component in tension.
The action of the two differently constructed components in this invention when flexed cause contact between the outer surface of the centre flexible component (active contacting component) and the inner surface of the outer flexible component (operating part component).
Various portidns of the centre flexible component may be insulated so as to set the moment of contacting when flexed to various degrees.
44 15 The operating part component may have an extension so as to increase its surface area or mass; or any other extension or adaption to suit particular applications.
The switch used for electrical switching, the contacting surfaces being made of suitable conductive material.
I 20 The centre flexible component may be made of multiple conductors.
a To assist with the understanding of the invention, reference will now be made to the accompanying drawing.
i In the drawing, figure 1 shows an example of a switch mechanism according to the invention.
ii AI ui,, r I i; 3- Referring to Fig. 1.
Fig. 1 shows the outer flexible component being a tension-compression spring, Tension section 1, Compression section 2. The centre flexible component indicated at either end 3 anJ 4 is held in tension ove its length by the outer flexible component; clamped by suitable clamps 5 and 6, insulated and secured by insulators 7 and 8.
The outer flexible component can be accessed at either end, 9 or The switch can be mounted, secured and terminated at either end or both; or mounted and secured on the tension section, so only the tension section acts as the operating part leaving the compression section free 15 to compensate for the different arc lengths, when flexed.
