ORIGINAL
Regulation 3.2 4* *4 a o 0* a 6o *444 a Name of Applicant: The Swag Bag Co Actual Inventors: Mark Gregory Walsh, atd Stephen Conway Beaufoyl, C. her me. W LCoAsV aO-S Susa E\;sch*t\ cea\LC-.
Address for Service: R K MADDERN ASSOCIATES, 345 King William Street, Adelaide, South Australia, Australia Invention title: "Beach Swag" Details of Associated Provisional Application No: PK 9496 dated November 1991.
The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to us.
1 BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION This invention relates to a beach swag, combining a detachable, washable, towelling cover on a mat on which to lie.
There are many beach swags already on the market. However, they are generally difficult to carry, and do not include the towelling cover or the means for carrying accessories such as sun lotion etc.
By way of contrast, the present beach swag is easy to carry, and has included a detachable, washable, towelling cover.
Preferably, pockets for sun lotion, sun glasses, valuables etc are also included.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The beach swag of the present invention comprises a mat, having on one side a detachable, washable towelling cover, fastening means for retaining the mat in a rolled-up form, and strap means extending, in a direction at right-angles to the direction of rolling of the mat, from one lateral edge of the mat to the directly opposite lateral edge of the mat.
For example, the strap means may be a buckle attached in the vicinity of a corner of the mat, and an adjustable strap attached in the vicinity of the laterally opposite corner of the mat. The strap terminates in a hook or other fastening means, which is engageable with the buckle. Alternatively, t the positioning of buckle and hook (or other fastening means) can be reversed. In a further embodiment, both ends of the 30 strap are attachable to the mat by means of a buckle and hook, or similar fastening arrangement. In the latter embodiment, the strap is removable from the mat, when not in use.
Preferably, the mat is substantially rectangular in shape.
Velcro strips, snap fasteners, studs or other attachment /11T4, \means are used to allow for the towelling cover to be removed 1 for washing etc. The fastening means for retaining the mat in a rolled-up form may be a system of ties, belts and buckles, or any other suitable means.
Preferably, the mat is provided with pockets for sun lotion, sun glasses, valuables, etc.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION The beach swag will now be further described with respect to the particular embodiment illustrated in Figs 1 and 2 of the accompanying drawings. This embodiment is illustrative, but not restrictive, of the present invention.
eti j 5 Fig 1 is a view from above of the beach swag, in rolled-out form. A corner of the towelling cover is turned back to show the means for removing this cover from the mat.
Fig 2 is a perspective view of the beach swag, in rolled-up '0 form.
The beach swag 10 includes a towelling cover 11 which may be removed from the mat 13 by loosening Velcro strips 12.
Pockets 14 are provided for securing sun lotion, sunglasses, valuables etc. The mat 13 can be made from nylon, matting or any other suitable fabric. The mat 13 may be padded, to provide extra comfort. A padded nylon mat is particularly preferred.
When not in use, mat 13 is rolled up so that the contents of pockets 14 are held firmly inside the roll. Ties 15 are tied up to hold the beach swag in its rolled-up form.
Carry strap 16 is secured to the mat by buckle and hook arrangements 17 and 18. The buckle and hook arrangements may be either at one end of carry strap 16 (as shown in Fig 1), or at both ends of the carry strap. Adjustment means 19 is provided, for altering the length of carry strap 16. Carry strap 16 provides a convenient means for carrying the beach 3 swag, either by placing the strap over one's shoulder or holding the strap in one's hand.
While the present invention has been described in terms of a preferred embodiment in order to facilitate better understanding of the invention, it should be appreciated that various modifications can be made without departing from the principle of the invention. Therefore, the invention should be understood to include all such modifications within its scope.
