Abstract

Composition for enhancing hair growth or stopping hair loss, containing, in a hydroalcohol or aqueous medium comprising water and an alkylene glycol or polyalkylene glycol liquid at room temperature: a) at least 0.03 to 0.3 weight percent of fructose; b) at least 0.002 to 0.05 weight percent of glucose; c) at least 0.03 to 0.2 weight percent of one or more cereal spheroproteins or their hydrolysates; d) at least 0.03 to 1 weight percent of a sodium or potassium salt.

Description

I 3I~ RIPIII 1 Composition based on fructose, glucose and cereal globular proteins or their hydrolysates, for decreasing hair loss and/or promoting hair regrowth The invention relates to compositions intended for promoting hair regrowth and/or decreasing hair loss, based on fructose, glucose and cereal globular proteins or their hydrolysates.
A person skilled in the art has known for a long time that natural hair loss in man reflects overall the balance of the hair follicles between the alternating phases of growth (anagen) and phases of loss (telogen) The average ratio of the number of follicles in the anagen phase to that in the telogen phase is of the order of 9 (90:10). It is apparent from this that the percentage of follicles in the rest phase (catagen) is very small.
The "natural loss or shedding of hair may be estimated at a few hundred hairs per day for the normal physiological state.
It is known, moreover, that certain factors such as a hormonal imbalance, a physiological stress or malnutrition can intensify the phenomenon.
In some dermatoses of the scalp in which inflammation is a feature, such as, for example, psoriasis or seborrhoeic dermatitis, hair loss may be strongly intensified or may give rise to greatly disturbed follicle cycles.
Surprisingly, the Applicant has discovered compositions based on fructose, glucose and cereal globular proteins or their hydrolysates that enable the survival of the hair follicle during the anagen phase to be prolonged.
The Applicant discovered that these compositions were especially effective for restoring hair and/or for halting hair loss, in particular in the treatment of disorders of the scalp such as pelade, hair loss, desquamating dermatitis and alopecia.
According to an especially preferred embodiment, r 2 it was established that the use of a hydrating agent in these compositions enabled their efficacy to be improved.
The subject of the invention is hence a new composition for decreasing hair loss and/or for promoting hair regrowth.
Another subject of the invention consists of its application to the treatment of the scalp and hair.
A subject of the invention also consists of the use of the compositions as defined above for the preparation of a medicinal product intended for the treatment of disorders of the scalp such as hair loss, desquamating dermatitis, alopecia and pelade.
Lastly, the subject of the invention is a process for the cosmetic treatment of hair, consisting in applying at least one of the compositions as defined above to the scalp or hair and then, where appropriate, in rinsing the latter with water; the composition essentially having; f6r'-this purpose, an effect of improving the appearance of the head of hair.
Other subjects of the invention will become apparent on reading the description and the examples which follow.
The composition according to the invention is essentially characterized in that it contains, in an aqueous or aqueous-alcoholic medium comprising water and from 0.01 to 0.5 by weight of a alkylene glycol or of a C 2
-C
4 polyalkylene glycol which is liquid at room temperature: a) at least from 0.03 to 0.3 by weight of fructose; b) at least from 0.002 to 0.05 by weight of glucose; c) at least from 0.03 to 0.2 by weight of one or more cereal globular proteins or their hydrolysates; d) at least from 0.03 to 1 by weight of a sodium or potassium salt; the weight percentages being defined relative to the total weight of the composition.
An especially preferred form of composition 1 I A 3 according to the invention consists of a formulation as is defined above containing, in addition, a hydrating agent chosen from urea and a C 3 polyol such as sorbitol or glycerol. The hydrating agent is used in proportions preferably of between 0.005 and 0.5 by weight relative to the total weight of the composition. More especially, urea is used.
Preferred compositions according to the invention contain an organic acid such as lactic acid or citric acid. The final pH of the composition has a value of between 6.5 and 8, and is adjusted with any acidifying and/or alkalinizing agent. More especially, lactic acid is used, for example in concentrations of between 2 x 10-4 and 1 by weight.
The cereal globular proteins used according to the present invention are chosen, in particular, from the globular proteins of wheat, maize, barley, oats, rice and millet: These cereal proteins consist, in particular, of a mixture of prolamine and glutenin.
The prolamine of wheat is gliadin; that of barley is hordein; that of oats, avenin; that of maize, zein; that of rice, orizin; and that of millet, kafirin.
These globular proteins consist mainly of glutamic acid, proline and a small amount of lysine.
The molecular weight of the cereal globular proteins used according to the invention is preferably greater than 20,000.
The molecular weight of the hydrolysates of these proteins is preferably less than 20,000.
The proteins or protein hydrolysates of the invention are preferably used in amounts of between 0.05 and 0.15 by weight.
More especially, wheat globular proteins of molecular weight greater than 30,000 and whose level of protein purity is greater than 90 are used.
The solvents used in the aqueous or aqueousalcoholic medium of the compositions of the invention are chosen, in particular, from polyethylene glycols, in particular polyethylene glycols 300, 400 and. 600, 4 propylene glycol, hexylene glycol and dipropylene glycol.
The alcohols used in the aqueous-alcoholic compositions are C 2 alcohols, in particular ethanol and propanol. They are present in amounts of from 25 to 50 by weight relative to the weight of the water/alcohol mixture.
The salts present in the compositions of the invention are chosen in particular, from sodium chloride and potassium chloride, and more especially sodium chloride. They are preferably used in amounts of between 0.1 and 0.5 by weight.
Fructose and glucose are preferably used in proportions of between 0.05 and 0.2 by weight and between 0.01 and 0.03 by weight, respectively.
The compositions according to the invention may be presented in various dosage forms customarily used in pharmacy or in cosmetics for treatment of the scalp.
They take the form, in particular, of a lotion, thickened or otherwise, which is used in rinsed or unrinsed treatment; gel; rinsed milk or cream; mousse or spray with a directional nozzle.
These compositions can contain thickeners such as cellulose or cellulose derivatives, for instance hydroxyethylcellulose; heterobiopolysaccharides such as xanthan gum; guar gum; polyacrylic acids crosslinked with a polyfunctional agent, such as the products sold under che name CARBOPOL, or crosslinked polymers or copolymers of acrylamide.
These compositions can optionally contain other adjuvants customarily used in cosmetics or in pharmacy, in particular for the scalp, such as surfactants, perfumes, preservatives, colorants, cationic, nonionic, anionic or amphoteric polymers, propellants, foam stabilizers, trace elements, anti-dandruff agents, soothing agents, antibacterial agents, scalp-stimulating agents such as vitamins, for instance calcium pantothenate and anti-grease agents.
The examples which follow serve to illustrate the invention without, however, being limiting in nature.
