Abstract

The sheet (3) carrying a matrix array of imprints partially surrounds a rotating cylinder (4). A marker (2) is fixed to the moving member of a linear motor (1) and directed at the passing sheet. The imprints are checked by a detector (5) which verifies that any defect has been marked recognisably for purposes of subsequent processing. The marking is started by a signal to the motor to bring the marker to bear upon the sheet, and terminated by a signal for its retraction.
