Description
Complete Specification Standard Patent SAUSAGE TURNER
S
S
S
S S The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it know to me.
1 SAUSAGE TURNER This invention provides the user with a new and novel method of turning sausages 6n any cooking surface, such as a pan or B-B-Q plate.
When space is at a premium, this device allows for sausages to be individually lifted and returned to exactly the same space without rolling or disrupting other sausages or other food.
i0. The device is tong shaped. At the end of each arm, a head is attached to the arm by a S: rivet. This rivet is loose enough to allow the head to rotate freely through 360degrees.
By squeezing the tongs with either hand, the two heads grasp a sausage close to one end.
When lifted the weight of the heavier end plus the law of gravity cause the sausage to 15 swing through 90degrees. By placing the lower end of the sausage back on the pan or plate and pushing the device away from the body, the sausage will continue to turn through another 90degrees until it is back on the pan or plate on a non or less-cooked part.
The device will be made of a metal such as stainless steel so as to withstand the heat of i *cooking. The device may also be used to rotate the sausage around its longitudinal axis by gripping the sausagebetween the heads and turning the device by rotating the wrist.
d To assist with understanding the invention, reference will now be made to the accompanying drawings, which show the construction along with one example of the invention.
In the drawings: Fig. 1 shows the construction of the device along with two possible head shapes "Example A" and "Example B" Figs. 2, 3 and 4 demonstrate a method of turning a sausage through 180degrees Fig. 5 shows a method of turning a sausage around its longitudinal axis.
Fig. 1 Referring to Fig. 1, it can be seen that the device is tong shaped so it can be squeezed inwards with either hand At the end of each arm is an identical head "3" and They may be curved to fit around the round shape of a sausage.
The heads are attached to the tong arms with rivets and which go through holes drilled in the arm and head. These rivets are loose fitting allowing the heads to spin freely through 360degrees.
The heads and may be rectangular and curved as in "Example A".
In another example of the device, the heads may be circular with small spikes to help grip the sausage. "Example B" Fig. 2 demonstrates the device gripping a sausage between the two heads by squeezing the tongs. The sausage is gripped close to one end.
.o Fig. 3 As the device is lifted the sausage will swing through 90degrees due to the extra weight of the heavier end and the law of gravity.
Fig. 4 By placing the lower end of the sausage on the pan or plate and pushing the device away from the body, the sausage will continue through another 90degrees until it Sis back on the pan or plate on a non or less cooked part.
SFig. 5 The arrows in Fig. 5 show how a sausage is turned around its longitudinal axis.
S 30. The device is turned by rotating the wrist.
It will be realised that the type or grade of metal is not restricted to the example shown, nor is the size of the device restricted. The shape of the tongs is not restricted nor any artistic pattern stamped on the metal arms or heads.
Although this device is called a 'sausage turner', its use is not restricted to turning only sausages. It can be used as a general utensil for turning meats or vegetables of a suitable shape, such as corn, kebabs and bananas.
Claims (5)
1. A sausage turning device comprising tongs having two generally parallel interconnected arms with the free ends of each arm having a freely rotating head which when squeezed together with either hand can grasp, Pick up and turn a sausage through 180degrees onto a non or less cooked part.
2. The sausage turning device of Claim 1 wherein all parts therefore are made of a metal such as stainless steel so as to withstand the heat involved in cooking.
3. The sausage turning device of Claims 1 and 2 wherein a metal head is fixed at the end of each tong arm by a loose rivet enabling each to spin freely.
4. The sausage turning device of Claims 1, 2 and 3 wherein each head should meet precisely when tongs are squeezed and no sausage is in the device. o.
5. A sausage turning device substantially to the accompanying drawings. V RM4-4~ as herein described with reference Date NIALL H. MORRIS Applicant's Name
