10 Description of the Related Art FIG. 1 shows a conventional shift control device for a manual transmission.
In FIG. 1, once a shift lever 51 is manipulated, shift lever manipulation force is transferred to a control shaft 53 such that a finger 55 formed at one end of the control shaft 53 is engaged with a corresponding shift range lug 59 formed on a shift rail 57, resulting in the manipulation force being transferred to the shift rail 57.
The shift rail 57 is provided with a plurality of shift forks 61 at another end thereof such that the shift forks 61 move with sleeves of synchronization devices (not shown) so as to perform a shift operation.
Also, the shift rail 57 is provided with a plurality of poppet grooves 63 and a corresponding number of poppet balls 67 are secured into the poppet P:kWPDOCS RSPECIE\756O_0VApar m_ Feb 2005 Mnmnd.doc-m/02M grooves 63 while being elastically supported by springs 69 such that this configuration provides a detent quality when the shift rail 57 is operated.
In this conventional shift control device, the elements such as the shift lever, control shaft, and shift rail are mechanically linked for operating the shift forks such that the vibration and physical friction caused by shift operation inside the transmission is directly transferred to the shift lever, resulting in degraded shift quality.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The present invention has been made in an effort to solve the above problems of the prior art.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a shift control device capable of preventing transmission vibration and abnormal friction impact among the inside elements from being transferred to the shift lever especially at the neutral range or during a shift-in state by structuring the device without physical contact among the inside elements except during a shift operation.
o. Accordingly the present invention provides a shift control device for a manual transmission comprising: a shift lever for manipulating the transmission; a control shaft 20 connected to a lower end of the shift lever and having a finger vertically projected; a shift rail engaged with the control shaft by receiving the finger of the control shaft into a lug of the shift rail; first detent means interposed between the shift rail and a transmission case for providing detent operation to the shift rail; and second detent means interposed between the control shaft and the transmission case for providing detent operation to the control shaft, and wherein the lug and the finger are engaged with each other with at least onegap between an outer surface of the finger and an inner wall of the lug.
P:\WPDOCS\RS\SPELE756644-AULp_ p eb 2F6 200 dd doc-OV2/05 BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS The accompanying drawings, which are incorporated in and constitute a part of the specification, illustrate an embodiment of the invention, and, together with the description, serve to explain the principles of the invention: FIG. 1 is a sectional view of a conventional shift control device for a manual transmission; FIG. 2 is an operational view of a shift control device for a manual transmission in neutral range according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention; FIG. 3 is an operational view of the shift control device of FIG. 2 in a first stage of shifting; *o S* FIG. 4 is an operational view of the shift control device of FIG. 2 in a second stage 15 of shifting; and FIG. 5 is an operational view of the shift control device of FIG. 2 in a third stage of shifting.
S* DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS S. Preferred embodiments of the present invention will be described hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawings.
FIG. 2 is an operational view of a shift control device for a manual transmission in neutral range according to the present invention 00-12-27; 1:13PM; t 6/ 14 In FIG. 2, a shift control device of the present invention comprises a control shaft 3 having a finger 1 and is connected to a shift lever (not shown) at one end thereof, and a shift rail 5 having a lug 7 for receiving the finger 1 of the control shaft 3 and a shift fork 9 which is engaged to a sleeve 11 of a synchronization device 13 such that a shift lever manipulation force is transferred from the shift lever to the sleeve 11 of the synchronization device 13 so as to operate the sleeve 11.
A first detent means is interposed between one side of the shift rail and a transmission case 17 for providing detent operation and a second detent means is interposed between one side of the control shaft 3 and the transmission case 17.
The first detent means comprises three poppet grooves 15 formed on an upper surface of the shift rail 5, a poppet ball 21 seated on an opening of a receiving hole 19 formed on a corresponding surface of the transmission case 17, and a spring 23 secured in the receiving hole 19 for biasing the poppet ball 21 such that the poppet ball 21 is positioned between the poppet grooves *and the receiving hole 19.
The second detent means comprises three detent grooves 25 formed on an upper surface of the control shaft 3, a detent ball 29 seated around an 20 opening of a receiving hole 27 formed on a corresponding surface of the transmission case 17, and a spring 31 secured in the receiving hole 27 for biasing the detent ball 29 such that the detent ball 29 is positioned between the detent grooves 25 and the receiving hole 27.
The lug 7 is provided with a finger hole opened upward so as to receive 00-12-27; 1:13PM; 1/ 4 9 7/ 14 the finger 1 of the control shaft 3 such that the lug 7 is engaged with the control shaft 3. The lug 7 and the finger 1 are formed in such a way that when they are engaged, there exists gaps P1 and P2 between the inner face of the lug 7 and the outer surface of the finger 1 The first and second detent means operate in stages during a shift operation.
The gaps P1 and P2 are determined according to vibration amplitude inside the transmission such that the vibration inside the transmission is not transferred to the control shaft 3.
The operation of the above structured shift control device for the manual transmission will be described hereinafter with reference to FIG. 3, FIG.
4, and FIG. FIG. 3, FIG. 4, and FIG. 5 are respective operational views of a shift control device of the present invention in the first, second, and third stages.
At the first stage, once the shift lever (not shown) is manipulated from the neutral range illustrated in. FIG. 2 toward a predetermined range, the finger 1 of the control shaft 3 moves in the ranges of the gaps P1 and P2 without moving the shift rail 5, as shown in FIG. 3.
*~In the second stage, as the shift lever is further manipulated, the finger 1 moves to a state of contacting the lug 7 such that the lever manipulation force :20 is transferred to the shift rail 5 (see FIG. Accordingly, the shift fork 9 of the shift rail 5 moves the sleeve 11I of the synchronization device.
In this case, the detent ball 29 is contacted to the detent groove 25 of the control shaft 3 such that the movement of the control shaft 3 is hindered by projected portions defining the detent grooves 25, resulting in a detent feeling.
00-12-27; 1:13PM; 0/ 14 At this time, the poppet ball 21 is not completely positioned in the poppet groove of the shift rail At the third stage, as shown in FIG. 5, the poppet ball 21 positions itself completely in the poppet groove 15 by an the elastic force of the spring 23 such that the shift rail 5 is moved so as to complete the operation of the synchronization device 13.
As illustrated above, in the shift control device for the manual transmission of the present invention, since there exists gaps P1 and P2 between the inner face of the lug 7 of the shift rail 5 and the outer surface of the finger 1 of the control shaft 3 when the finger 1 is engaged with the lug 7, vibration caused by the transmission is prevented from being transferred to the shift lever and abnormal friction can be avoided. Accordingly, the shift quality is improved.
