Abstract
A method of preventing the reversal of an iminohalide from a 7-acylamidodeacetoxycephalosporin ester to a 7-acylamidodeacetoxycephalosporin ester during treatment of the iminohalide with an alcohol or thiol, consisting of reacting the iminohalide in an inert organic liquid diluent, in the presence of hydrogen halide, with alcohols or thiols of formulas: ** (See formula) ** where X is oxygen or sulfur; each of the symbols Y and Z represents alkyl such that the alcohol or thiol has approximately 4 to 12 carbon atoms; Y and Z attached to the carbon atom to which they are attached represent a cycloalkyl group of 5 to 8 carbon atoms forming the ring; each of the symbols W and Z1 is hydrogen or C1-C2 alkyl and each of the symbols R1 and R2 is hydrogen or a hydrocarbon radical such that 1,3-diol has from 3 to about 15 carbon atoms; and each of the symbols R3 and R4 is hydrogen or alkyl such that the molecule contains about 2 to 12 carbon atoms.
