Abstract

The tank is a large enclosed chamber (14), its sides perforated to permit entry of water. Through the centre is a horizontal tube (30), each end equipped with a float (31a, 31b) mounted on a bearing. Each float is connected to a compressed air supply (6) and weighted by a chain (34); air is introduced to raise the tank and is exhausted to lower it. A small buoy (35a, 35b) is also anchored to each end of the hollow tube, its length of attachment cable (36a, 36b) designed to limit the depth to which the tank can be lowered.
