Abstract

1294896 Photo-curable materials W R GRACE & CO 21 Nov 1969 [21 Nov 1968] 57048/69 Heading G2C A photo-curable material comprises a porous support having a water transmission rate defined as amount of water (in gms) multiplied by support thickness (in mls) divided by the area of the support (in metres) multiplied by the time (24 hrs)) of at least 100 having absorbed therein and at the surface thereof a liquid photo-curable composition comprising (a) from 2 to 98 parts by weight a polyene containing at least 2 unsaturated carbon to carbon bonds per molecule (b) 98 to 2 parts by weight of a polythiol containing at least 2 thiol groups per molecule and (c) from 0À0005 to 10 parts by weight of photo-initiator, the number of unsaturated groups and third groups per molecule being greater than 4. The material may be image-wise exposed to ultraviolet to cure the exposed areas and the unexposed areas removed to produce a printing plate. The photocurable compositions are preferably those of Specifications 1251232 and 1215591. Specified porous supports are fibrous papers, cloth, felt and fibrous polymers such as nylon cellulose, cellulose acetate or nitrate, polybutadiene, polyisoprene, polyethylene, polystyrene, polymethylmethacrylate, hexamethylene adipate copolymers and ethyl cellulose. The composition may contain filters or curing inhibitors and may be covered with a protective layer.
