1329537 Fuel tank closures B PIQ 17 May 1972 [19 May 1971] 23087/72 Heading B8T [Also in Division E2] A combination lock forming part of a petrol cap or a door handle comprises actuating rings 7, 8, Fig. 1, surrounding a member comprising parts 5, 6 and each having a recess 25 or 26, Figs. 2 and 3, in its internal surface, and a spring ring 20 disposed in an annular space between the actuating rings 7, 8 and the parts 5, 6. The spring ring 20 has a projection 21 which can engage in the recesses 25, 26 in the actuating rings 7, 8. The recess 26, Fig. 2, in the actuating ring 8 is so shaped as to allow the engagement by the projection 21 to lock the actuating ring 8 to the parts 5, 6 for rotation together. The recess 25 in the actuating ring 7, Fig. 3, has sloping sides which, when the recesses 25, 26 are in alignment and the actuating ring 7 is rotated, causes the projection 21 to move out of both recesses 25, 26. The spring ring 20 may be metal or a synthetic plastics material and is provided with pins (22), Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown), which are received in bores formed in a groove 11, Fig. 1. Rings 12, 13, Figs. 2 and 3, each carry six pins 16, 17 which are received in bores 18, 19 respectively in the rings 7, 8. Reference marks (29), Fig. 4 (not shown), are on the member 6 and other reference marks are on the rings 12, 13, Fig. 1, which are received in grooves 14, 15 in the rings 7 and 8 respectively. Thus the ring 8 can be locked for rotation with the parts 5, 6, when the combination is shown and the recesses 25, 26 are therefore in alignment.
