Abstract
183,421. Singer Manufacturing Co., (Assignees of Zabriskie, H. L.). July 20, 1921, [Convention date]. Regulating-switches of the kind in which a contact arm moves over a series of contact studs connected to sections of resistance so as to vary the resistance in circuit have the contact arm, which is driven by an external handle, of rigid construction and journaled upon its spindle so as to permit of self-aligning movement thereon, means being provided to ensure good contact at the pivot. As shown in Figs. 1 and 3, the rigid contact-arm 12, which is of channel section at the contact end, has an aperture at the other end with rounded walls so that it forms a loose fit on the pivot post 6. A down-turned flange 15 on the arm engages with a contact washer 11 in electrical connection with the post, the fixing screw 9 of which passes through the terminal strap 10. The contact-arm is yieldingly held down upon the contact studs, with the flange 15 in engagement with the washer 11, by a helical spring 16 between the arm and an enlarged head 5 on the post.
