Abstract

Mines, marine. - Relates to automaticallyanchored contact mines, and consists mainly in inserting, between the cable and the mine, springs or counterweights, which, when deflected by the tension in the cable, close a switch to arm the mine. In the form shown, the cable drum d<2> is carried by the mine f on springs f<2> and carries a switch-box 4, the closing-plug 3 of which is attached to a lever pivoted to the mine. The switch-box is in the circuit of the lead caps 7 and the fuse 8. Dash-pots 13 render momentary changes in the tension ineffective. The cable d is secured to the anchor g by a grip 21, which may be released by a pull on a lever 19; the mine then rises to the surface and is disarmed. The lever 19 is connected by a line 16 and a ring 18 to the rope 15 of another mine. The mine and the anchor are secured together, before launching, by links a, q. Soluble blocks s, 23 release the parts after a given time of submersion.
