Description
SPECIFICATION
Game
This invention relates to games.
According to the present invention a game comprises an elongate rack having provided along its length a plurality of mutually parallel equi-spaced holes which extend through the rack substantially orthogonally of its longitudinal axis, a plurality of elongate hanging members received one in each hole and each having at one end an eye and at the other end an enlarged part which serves as a stop, the hanging members being freely movable within the holes between the eyes and the enlarged parts, a plurality of apertured members which are linked one with each eye and each of which, with the exception of those two apertured members disposed one adjacent each end of the elongate rack, are arranged each to encircle an adjacent hanging member, and an elongate handling device which is dimensioned so as to pass through the apertured members and which has defined therein an elongate aperture through which all of the hanging members can be arranged contemporaneously to extend.
In order to play the game, the handling device is held in one hand and used in a predetermined manner as will herein be described, so that it is arranged to encircle one or more of the hanging members supported in the elongate rackwhichis held in the other hand.
The apertured members may comprise rings arranged to pass through the eyes.
The elongate rack may comprise a flat rigid strip in which the holes are formed.
The elongate hanging members may comprise bars having the said eyes formed at one end thereof and having formed at the other end thereof further eyes which comprise the enlarged parts.
The further eyes may have secured thereto decorative beads.
The elongate handling device may comprise a loop of bar or wire bent to form a 'U' shape, which defines the said elongate aperture, and to which is fitted, at one end thereof remote from the root of the 'U' shape, a handle.
The rack, the hanging members, the rings and the handling device may be made from plastics material, or metal, or wood, or from any combination of these materials.
One embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which

Figure 2 is a side view of the part of the game shown in Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a plan view of another part of the game comprising a handling device;
Figure 4 is a side view of the handling device shown in Figure 3;
Figure 5 is a front view of a ring which forms a part of that part of the game shown in Figures 1 and 2;
Figure 6 is a side view of another part of that part of the game shown in Figures 1 and 2;
Figure 7 is a side view of a decorative device forming a part of that part of the game shown in
Figure 2;
Figure 8 is a part plan view of a rack which forms a
part of that part of the game shown in Figures 1 and 2;;
Figure 9 is a side view of the rack shown in Figure 8;
Figures 10 to 16 are each front views of a part of that part of the game shown n Figures 1 and 2, and which in combination illustrate a sequence of moves to be followed for playing the game in accordance with one method; and
Figures 17to 19 are similarly front views of a part of that part of the game shown in Figures 1 and 2, which illustrate a sequence to be followed for playing the game in accordance with an alternative method.
The game comprises two main parts and referring now to Figure 1, one main part of the game comprises an elongate rack 1, which as shown in
Figures 8 and 9 consists of a rectangular strip of rigid material in which holes 2 are formed. The holes 2 extend mutually in parallel through the rack substantially parallel to its longitudinal axis. As can be seen from Figure 2, the holes 2 are used to accommodate hanging members 3, shown in Figure 6, which are provided at one end with eyes 4. Apertured members in the form of rings 5 as shown in Figure 5 are arranged to be linked with each eye so that the rings 5 are freely movable within the eyes 4. The ends of the elongate members 3 remote from the eyes 4 are provided with enlarged parts in the form of further eyes 6 which serve to support decorative beads 7 shown in Figures 2 and 7.As shown in Figure 2 all of the rings 5 with the exception of the end rings 5a and 5b are arranged to encircle an adjacent hanging device so that the eye with which it is associated projects through the ring.
The main part of the game thus far described with reference to Figure 1, Figure 2, FigureS, Figure 6,
Figure 8 and Figure 9, is manipulated by means of an elongate handling device as shown in Figures 3 and 4 which comprises the other main part of the game.
The handling device 8 comprises an elongate aperture formed by a loop of wire 9, bent to define a U bend 10, the end of the loop 9 remote from the U bend 10 being fitted with a handle 11.
The game is played by manipulating the rings 5, 5a and 5b with the handling device 8 so that the hanging members are arranged to project through the loop 9 in the handling device 8. Although when playing the game various objectives may be set to be achieved, in accordance with one objective the handling device 8 is manipulated so that it is finally positioned as shown in Figure 16. In Figures 10 to 16, (wherein parts corresponding to Figures 1 and 2 bear the same numerical designations) a sequence of positions is illustrated showing the sequence of moves which must be made progressively to achieve the object of the game as shown in Figure 16.
Before starting the sequence of moves, the handling device 8 is totally detached from the other main part shown in Figures 1 and 2.
The first move is to pass the loop 9 through the end ring 5b and then to bring the first ring 5a and a second ring Sc up through the loop 9. These moves will produce a position as shown in Figure 10 wherein only some of the rings are shown. As shown in Figure 11 the loop 9 is then passed through the second ring 5c. The first ring 5a is then passed down through the loop 9 and this produces the position as shown in Figure 12. Athird ring 5d is next passed up through the loop 9 and the loop 9 is then passed through it as shown in Figure 13. The loop 9 is then passed through the second ring Scto produce the position as shown in Figure 14.The first ring 5a is next passed up through the loop 9 and the first and second rings 5a and Sc are passed down through the loop. Afourth ring 5e is next passed up through the loop and the loop is then passed through the ring 5e and through the ring 5d. The first ring 5a and the second ring Sc are then brought up through the loop 9. The loop 9 is then passed through the second ring Sc and the rings 5a and 5d are then brought down.
This produces a position as shown in Figure 15 of the drawings. The first ring 5a is next brought up through the loop and the first and second rings 5a and Sc are passed down. A fifth ring 5f is then brought up through the loop and the loop 9 is then passed through the fifth ring 5f and the fourth ring 5e. The first and second rings 5a and Sc are then brought up through the loop and the loop is then passed through the second ring Sc and down through the first ring 5a. The third ring 5d is then brought up through the loop 9 and the loop 9 is then passed through the third ring 5d and the second ring 5c.Lastly, the first ring 5a is brought up through the loop 9 and the loop 9 is passed through it. This completes the game and produces a position as illustrated in Figure 16. As can be seen from Figure 16, the game illustated comprises six rings although in Figures 10 through 15 for simplicity not all rings are shown in each of the positions.
When the position shown in Figure 16 has been produced, one objective of the game can be said to have been met. A further objective is to use the handling device 8 to change the rings from the position illustrated in Figure 16 to afresh position as illustrated in Figure 19. The intermediate moves required to transfer the rings from the position illustrated in Figure 16tothe positions shown in
Figure 19 will now be described and once again all of the rings are shown in each Figure.
Starting from the position shown in Figure 16, firstly the loop is passed out of the first ring 5a and the first ring 5a is then passed down. The second and third rings Sc and 5d are then brought out of the loop 9 and the third ring 5d is let down through the loop 9.
The loop 9 is then passed back to the second ring Sc to produce the position as illustrated in Figure 18 having passed through the intermediate position as illustrated in Figure 17. The first ring 5a is next brought up and the second ring Sc is pulled out. The first and second rings 5a and Sc are then passed down through the loop 9. The fourth and the fifth rings 5e and 5f are next pulled out and the fifth ring 5f is thereafter allowed to pass down through the loop 9. The fourth ring 5e is inserted in the loop 9 and the first and second rings 5a and Sc are brought up.The loop 9 is next passed through the second ring Sc and down through the first ring 5a. The third ring 5d is then brought up and the loop 9 is passed through it and through the second ring 5c. The first ring 5a is then brought up. The first and the second rings 5a and Sc are brought down and the third and the fourth rings Sc and 5d are pulled out. The fourth ring 5e is then brought down. The loop 9 is then passed through the third ring 5d and the first and second rings 5a and Sc are brought up.The loop 9 is then passed through the second ring Sc so as to allow the first ring 5a to pass down. The second and third rings Sc and 5d are then pulled out and the third ring 5e is passed through the loop 9. The loop 9 is then passed through the second ring Sc and the first ring 5a is brought up through the loop 9. The second ring Sc is then pulled out thereby to allow the first and second rings 5a and Sc to pass down through the loop 9. This completes the game and the rings are then positioned as shown in Figure 19 having passed through the intermediate positions shown in
Figures 17 and 18.
It will be appreciated that the game as just before described comprises a puzzle suitable for persons of all ages and provides an intriguing and interesting entertainment.
