Abstract

Some at least of the control signals usually produced by manual control members and applied to the control circuit 6 of the apparatus to control the performance of the different functions thereof, e.g. to set the time or alarm functions of a watch, are produced directly from words pronounced by the user, belonging to a predetermined vocabulary, by an assembly A which comprises electro-acoustic means C for converting a pronounced word into an analog signal 5' representing that word, means D for transforming the analog signal into an item of logic control information N and means E for transforming the logic information into a control signal P which can be directly applied to the control circuit 6. The analog signal S' is passed to a series of band-pass filters 301-307 each followed by a sampling circuit 32 and a threshold circuit 34 to provide a digital signal representing the amplitude of the analog signal S' in the respective frequency band. The digital signals are stored, 18, and compared, 22, with reference signals from 20. <IMAGE>
