Abstract
212,715. Ball, F. L., Moulton, F., and Lead Wool Co., Ltd., (formerly Lead Wool Co. (1919), Ltd.). Feb. 10, 1923. Locating leaks.-In apparatus for testing pipejoints for leakage, of the type comprising an annular member 5 which is adapted to form an annular conduit surrounding or surrounded by the mouth of the joint to be tested and which is provided with fluid-tight sealing means at each end operable between the member 5 and the adjacent portions of the pipe wall, each sealing means comprises an inflatable tube 8 of rubber located in a channel 7 provided at each end of the member 5. Each tube 8, which may be enclosed in a canvas cover 9, is provided with a connection to a, pipe 10, which communicates with a pump operable to apply either pressure or suction to said tube. In operation, the tubes 8 are inflated so as to form an annular chamber 12, which is then supplied with water, &c. under pressure through the pipe 13, leakage being detected by the escape of water from the outside of the joint. The member 5 may be provided with a. pressure gauge and, an air cock 15, while the outer flanges of the channel 7 may be detachable to facilitate insertion and removal of the member 5, and tubes 8 being assembled after the member 5 has been positioned.
