Abstract

A spoon 1 comprises a handle 2 to one end 3 of which is attached a concave bowl 4, which is partially covered by a lid 8 which extends from the end 3 of the handle 2 adjacent the bowl 4, to define a closed end of the bowl, towards the end of the bowl 4 remote from the handle 2, but terminating short of that end, to define an open end of the bowl 2 for bowl filling purposes and subsequently for bowl discharge purposes. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Non-Spill Spoon-With or Without Calibration Spoon with fixed concave lid covering part of the bowl forming an enclosure enabling the spoon to be tilted back to contain liquid.
The lid may be further shaped at the forward end to prevent sideways spillage (see attached drawing).
The purpose of the spoon is to overcome the problem of spillage frequently experienced with conventional spoons when giving liquids or medication to babies, infants, invalids and the aged. The non-spill spoon is filled in the same manner as a conventional spoon and can be tilted back to facilitate carrying the filled spoon, especially useful at night and in bad lighting.
By gradually tilting forwards from the upright position described above (see attached drawing) an extra measure of control is allowed when introducing fluid to the recipient. By tilting the spoon back when difficulty of administration is encountered, spillage is minimised thus avoiding damage to clothing, bedclothes etc.
An important aspect of the non-spill spoon is the resulting accuracy in dosage of medication.
CLAIMS (Filed on 20 December 1983) 1. A spoon comprising a handle to one end of which is attached a concave bowl which is partially covered by a lid which extends from the end of the handle adjacent the bowl, to define a closed end of the bowl, towards the end of the bowl remote from the handle, but terminating short of that end to define an open end of the bowl for bowl filling purposes and subsequently for bowl discharge purposes.
2. A spoon as claimed in Claim 1, wherein the lid is concave.
3. A spoon as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2, wherein the leading edge of the lid, remote from the handle is curved oppositely to that of the leading end of the bowl.
4. A spoon as claimed in any preceding Claim, wherein the leading edge of the lid, remote from the handle, makes an obtuse angle with the upper perimeter of the bowl.
5. A spoon as claimed in any preceding Claim, wherein more than half the bowl is covered by the lid.
6. A spoon as claimed in any preceding Claim, wherein the lid is formed integrally with the bowl.
7. A spoon as claimed in Claim 6, wherein the spoon is produced by injection moulding.
8. A spoon as claimed in any one of Claims 1 to 5, wherein the lid is formed separately from the bowl and is subsequently fixed thereto.
9. A spoon as claimed in Claim 8, wherein fixing of the lid to the bowl is effected by adhesive.
10. A spoon as claimed in Claim 8, wherein fixing of the lid to the bowl is effected by brazing.
11. A spoon substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
