Abstract

A beverage unit for standing on a surface or mounting against a wall has a platform 1 and a raised platform 3 projecting outwardly from a rear panel 13. The rear panel 13 is recessed and provides ribs 9 with notches for receipt of a cable 11 which will pass through a notch 12 in the outer rim 8 of the unit to be connected to a kettle, coffee percolator or the like set on the platform 1. The space between the platforms 1 and 3 provides storage for any required items and may be provided into separate sections. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Improvements relating to beverage units This invention relates to a unit which may be installed in the room of a building, such as an hotel, so as to receive the equipment needed for dispensing beverages such as tea or coffee.
According to the invention there is provided a beverage unit comprising a platform for receipt of a kettie, percolator or the like and for one or more cups, an upstanding rear wall extending up from the back of the platform and having a rear portion defining holding means for an electrical cable, so as to be hidden behind the rear wall, and an outlet for the cable at the edge of the rear wall enabling the cable to be connected to the kettle, percolator of the like.
This unit provides the platform for receipt of the equipment necessary for dispensing beverages but also ensures that the electrical supply cable to be plugged into the kettle or percolator is held in a safe manner onto the back of the upstanding rear wall so that only a small portion of the cable will extend to the front of the unit. This provides a safe supply for the kettle or percolator.
In the preferred embodiment the holding means comprises slots cut into ribs on the rear wall, to grip the cable. As an alternative the holding means could comprise resilient gripping devices carried on the rear wall. It is an advantage to provide that the rear wall is formed with a rearwardly projecting outer rim incorporating a slot through which the electrical cable can pass.
It is further preferred that a pocket should be defined between the platform and an upper wall extending forwardly from the rear wail. This pocket can receive the ingredients which will be used to prepare the beverage together with biscuits or other eatables. The upper wall advantageously defines an auxiliary platform for receipt of the cups.
The unit can incorporate mounting means, provided for locating the unit against the wall of a room. In its simplest form, the unit is free-standing so that the platform will rest on the surface of a table or the like and the rear wall will locate against the wall of the room. However the mounting means may comprise hook members for extending from the rear wall to locate over a bar secured to a wall of a room, and/or holes defined in the rear wall to receive screws enabling the unit to be attached rigidly against the wall of a room.
The invention may be performed in various ways and a preferred embodiment thereof will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings wherein Figures 1 to 3 respectively illustrate front, underneath and rear perspective views of a preferred form of beverage unit of this invention.
The beverage unit shown in the drawings comprises a platform 1 from which projects an upstanding rear wall 2. An auxiliary platform 3 defines, with the main platform 1, a pocket 4 divided into compartments by low ribs 5. The front edges of both of the platforms 1 and 3 tilt upwardly as shown at 6 and 7 so that items carried by the unit will not tend to slip off the front of the unit.
The rear wall 2 has a rearwardly projecting outer rim 8 defining a space within which rib members 9 are mounted. These rib members each incorporate a slot 10 into which an electrical cable 11 (shown in dashed outline) can be pressed so as to be held securely. The free end of the cable will pass through a slot 12 cut into the outer rim 8 and will terminate in a plug which will be connected to a kettle or percolator.
The beverage unit shown in the drawings will receive a kettle or percolator on the open area of the platform 1 whilst cups, saucers and plates can be positioned on the auxiliary platform 3.
Ingredients for making the beverage together with biscuits, for example, will be housed within the pocket 4.
The unit shown in the drawings is a freestanding unit which will be set on a table with the rear wall 2 located against the wall of the room.
However the back surface 13 of the rear wall 2 could carry hook members to locate over a bar fixed onto the wall of the room. Alternatively or additionally holes could be formed in the rear of the pocket 4 to receive screws which can be screwed directly into the wall to secure a unit in place.
1. A beverage unit comprising a platform for receipt of a kettle, percolator or the like and for one or more cups, an upstanding rear wall extending up from the back of the platform and having a rear portion defining holding means for an electrical cable, so as to be hidden behind the rear wall, and an outlet for the cable at the edge of the rear wall enabling the cable to be connected to the kettle, percolator or the like.
2. A unit according to claim 1, wherein the holding means comprises slots cut into ribs on the rear wall, to grip the cable.
3. A unit according to claim 1, wherein the holding means comprises resilient gripping devices carried on the rear wall.
4. A unit according to any one of claims 1 to 3, wherein the rear wall is formed with a rearwardly projecting outer rim incorporating a slot through which the electrical cable can pass.
5. A unit according to any one of claims 1 to 4, wherein a pocket is defined between the platform and an upper wall extending forwardly from the rear wall.
6. A unit according to claim 5, wherein the upper wall defines an auxiliary platform for receipt of the cups.
7. A unit according to any one of claims 1 to 6, wherein mounting means is provided for locating the unit against the wall of a room.
8. A unit according to claim 7, wherein the mounting means comprises hook members extending from the rear wall to locate over a bar secured to a wall of a room, and/or holes defined in the rear wall to receive screws enabling the unit
