Abstract

This invention relates to a circular knitting machine for the production of hosiery and the like goods, in the needle cylinder (1) of which machine there are disposed needle jacks (4) designed to raise the needles (5), the needle jacks (4) being associated with selectively activated raising cams and with upper and lower cam rings (7,8) to hold the needle jacks (4) radially in the needle cylinder (1). The object of this invention is to obtain as small as possible stress and friction of the needle jacks (4), the machine being provided with a needle jack limiting ring (9) firmly connected to the needle cylinder (1) of the machine which ring supports the jacks clear of the cam rings when they are not involved in a knitting motion. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Circular knitting machine This invention relates to a circular knitting machine for the production of hosiery and the like goods.
An arrangement of upper and lower cam rings is known, where the cam rings hold needle jacks in the needle cylinder in radial direction, while the upper cam ring is designed to lower the needle jacks and the lower cam ring is designed to raise the needle jacks and at the same time to lock them in the lower position. A disadvantage of this arrangement is that the needle jacks, especially in the lower position impact the stationary cam ring, where there is friction even in an inactive position, which causes troubles especially in case of high speed machines with operational speeds over 1,000 revolutions per minute.
The object of this invention is to eliminate the above mentioned disadvantage.
According to the invention there is provided a circular knitting machine for the production of hosiery and the like goods, in the needle cylinder of which machine are disposed needle jacks to lift the needles and with which are associated selectively activated raising cams and upper and lower cam rings to hold the needles radially in the needle cylinder, and a needle jacks limiting ring firmly connected with the needle cylinder of the machine.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawing , in which: Figure 1 is a partial axial section through the lower part of the needle cylinder; and Figure 2 is a view from inside the needle cylinder of a part of the arranyement of the cam rings designed to control the needle jacks.
A known single cylinder knitting machine is provided with a needle cylinder 1 which is firmly arranged on a take down insert la disposed in bearings, of which only the upper bearing 2 is visible being arranged in the flange 3 of the machine.
In the tricks in the needle cylinder 1 are placed shiftably movable needle jacks 4 and above them the needles 5. Upper cam ring 7 and lower cam ring 8 are fixed on the cam box 6 and serve to control the needle jacks 4. A limiting ring 9 for needle jacks 4 is fixed to the lower end of the needle cylinder 1. In each feed there are radially approaching raising cams 10 (Fig. 2) activated according to a program by a not shown known device, said raising cams serving selectively to control the needle jacks. The lower cam ring 8 is provided with retracting edges 81.
The operation of the above described arrangement is the following. In the basic position, the needle jacks 4 or the needles 5 are in the lower inoperative position. The lower butts 41 of the needle jacks 4 bear against the limiting ring 9 and move along the path A, while their patterning butts 42 do not touch the lower cam ring 8 or the upper cam ring 7 and during rotation of the needle cylinder 1 there is no friction between said elements.
The lower cam ring 8 and the upper cam ring 7 hold the needle jacks 4 only in radial direction. If some of the raising cams 10 is activated, it raises the needle jack 4 through its butt 42 and the needle 5 is raised and receives the yarn, then the needle is retracted and forms the stitch. The butt 41 of raised needle jack 4 moves along the path B, while after raising by the cam 10 the needle jack 4 is retracted by the retracting edge 81 into the original position.
The main advantage of this invention is that the needle jack is not stressed by the cam rings along the whole length, but only in the region of the butt, which shows a favourable effect at high speeds of knitting.
1. Circular knitting machine for the production of hosiery and the like goods, in the needle cylinder of which machine are disposed needle jacks to lift the needles and with which are associated selectively activated raising cams and upper and lower cam rings to hold the needles radially in the needle cylinder, and a needle jacks limiting ring firmly connected with the needle cylinder of the machine.
2. Circular knitting machine according to Claim 1, wherein above the needle jacks limiting ring there is arranged the stationary lower cam ring with retracting edges in individual feeds.
3. Circular knitting machine according to Claim 1 or 2, wherein the needle jacks limiting ring is fixed to the lower end of the needle cylinder.
4. Circular knitting machine substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawing.
