Description

SPECIFICATION Electrical connector This invention relates to an electrical connector for connecting a supply cable to stator winding terminals of an electric motor.
A connector of this type is known from German Offenlegungsschrift No 3,105,428, wherein terminals of the connector are formed by projecting metal tongues, and a changeover switch is necessary in order to permit changing over between a star and a delta connection, or combinations thereof, of the stator windings of the motor.
According to this invention there is provided a member for a stator with permanent winding contacts, characterised by the terminals of the plug member being an optionally replaceable circuit board adapted to connect the windings in a desired manner by means of projecting tongues and thickened conductor paths on the circuit board.
Also according to this invention there is provided an electrical connector for use in establishing electrical connections to and between stator winding terminals of an electric motor, in which the connector comprises a circuit board adapted to be mated with the stator winding terminals, the circuit board optionally having on one side conductor paths arranged to establish electrical connections between predetermined ones of the stator winding terminals, and having on the other side conductor paths adapted for connection to conductors of a supply cable for the electric motor and to connect the conductors to predetermined ones of the stator winding terminals.
The conductor paths on the one side of the circuit board can extend substantially transversely of the conductor paths on the other side of the circuit board.
This invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the drawings, in which: Figure 1 is an end view of the stator of an electric motor with permanent winding terminals; Figure 2 is a perspective view of an electrical connector in the form of a plug member for use with the stator shown in Fig. 1; and Figure 3 shows three circuit boards for use in the plug member of Fig. 2.
The stator shown in Fig. 1 may for instance be part of the electric motor in a centrifugal pump, and has an arrangement of winding terminals 1 at which the windings of the motor terminate. The terminals 1 are arranged in a terminal box adapted to receive a plug member terminating a supply cable for the motor and having terminals for mating with the terminals 1.
Referring now to Fig. 2, the connecting here shown comprises a frame 2 carrying a circuit board 3 having tongues 4 for contacting the terminals 1 when the connector is mated with the terminal box of the stator of Fig. 1.
The connector terminates a supply cable 7 for the motor, the cable 7 having a plurality of conductors 8 for connection to respective connection means 6, for example screw clamps, on the circuit board 3.
Referring now to Fig. 3 also, this shows both sides of three circuit boards A, B and C for use in the plug member of Fig. 2.
One one side of each circuit board A or B there are conductor paths 5' which extend between certain of the tongues 4, and which when a plug member with such a circuit board is mated with the stator of Fig. 1, serve to interconnect the winding terminals 1 of the stator in a predetermined manner to give a required connection arrangement, such as a star connection, a delta connection, or a combination of the two. The circuit board C has no such conductor paths.
The other side of each circuit board A, B or C carries conductor paths 5 which extend from the conductor connectors 6 to certain of the tongues 4 and which, when the plug member with such a circuit board is mated with the stator of Fig. 1, serve to connect the supply cable conductors 8 to certain predetermined ones of the winding terminals 1.
Thus, by selection of an appropriate circuit board 3 for use in the plug member, required connections between and to the winding terminals 1 can be obtained, and the connections can be changed simply by changing the circuit board for a different one.
Certain of the terminals 1 can be used to connect control or measurement circuits to the stator through the plug member by using conductor paths on the circuit board 3 used.
The circuit board 3 can be secured to the body 2 of the plug member in any convenient manner, and possibly in a releasable manner.
1. A plug member for a stator with permanent winding contacts, characterised by the terminals of the plug member being an optionally replaceable circuit board adapted to connect the windings in a desired manner by means of projecting tongues and thickened conductor paths on the circuit board.
2. A plug member as claimed in claim 1, characterised by conductor paths on both sides of the circuit board.
3. A plug member as claimed in claim 2, characterised by the conductor paths on one side of the circuit board serving for the interconnection of the winding terminals, whereas the conductor paths on the other side of the circuit board serve for the connections to the remaining portion of the plug member.
4. A plug member as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 3, characterised by the circuit

Thus, by selection of an appropriate circuit board 3 for use in the plug member, required connections between and to the winding terminals 1 can be obtained, and the connections can be changed simply by changing the circuit board for a different one. The circuit board 3 can be secured to the body 2 of the plug member in any convenient manner, and possibly in a releasable manner. CLAIMS
