Abstract
A unit 10 of FVC or thermoplastic rubber is moulded onto a filler 12 of polypropylene having a top piece 14 of polyurethane secured thereto. In another embodiment, a unit 10 is moulded directly on to a top piece 14. (Fig. 1, not shown). <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Sole and heel units
The invention relates to sole and heel units for ladies shoes, and is particularly concerned with such units in which the heel is slim, to meet the requirements of fashion, and provided with a replaceable top piece. A slim heel requires a small top piece.
Aunitaccordingtotheinvention is made of PVC or thermoplastics rubber moulded onto a filler or onto a top piece of polyurethane, the filler having a top piece securedthereto. Such a soleand heel unit can be madeto meetthe demands of fashion, and can readily be incorporated into a shoe.
A preferred unit has a filler of polypropylene onto which an upper can be nailed through the skin of PVC or thermoplastic rubber. The filler may be held in the
PVCorthermoplastic rubber by means of holes for receiving the PVC or thermoplastic rubber during moulding or by means of a cement, for example a heat-activated cement.
The filler may be of any shape which fits in the heel, but preferably reduces in cross-section towards the top so as to aid retention. The filler is preferably provided with an upright recess for locating a shank on the top piece. The recess may for example be of square, triangular or D-shaped cross-section to ensure the correct orientation of the top piece, or two orthree such recesses may be provided for lugs on the top piece. The filler may also be provided with a shallow recess in the end nearest the top piece for securing the skin of PVC or thermoplastic rubber.

The same reference numerals have been used in each Figure to denote corresponding parts. A unit loins made of PVC orthermoplastic rubber moulded onto a filler 12 of polypropylene or onto a top piece 14 of polyurethane. Ashank 14a of the top piece in Figure 1 is shown as provided with holes 14bfor engagement with the moulded material and holding the shank 14a in position. The filler 12 (Figure 2) is provided with similar holes (not shown).
The filler 12 in Figure 2 is provided with an upright recess 16 for locating the shank. The filler 12 is also provided with a shallow recess 13for securing the skin. Such a unit can be manufactured by mounting the top piece 14(Figure 1) or the filler 12 (Figure 2) in a mould and injecting PVC orthermoplastic rubber skin material. The heel may then be sprayed with paint, and the top piece 14 (Figure 2) attached and secured with staples 18.

4. A sole and heel unit for a ladies shoe as herein described with reference to Figure 1 or Figure 2 of the drawings.

Claims (4)
1. A sole and heel unitfor a ladies shoe which is made of PVC or thermoplastics rubber moulded onto a filler or onto a top piece of polyurethane, the filler having a top piece secured thereto.
2. Aunitaccordingto claim 1 in which thefilleris provided with an upright recess for locating a shank on the top piece.
3. A unit according to claim 1 or claim 2 in which the filler is provided with a shallow recess in the end nearestthe top piece for securing the skin of PVC or thermoplastic rubber.
4. A sole and heel unit for a ladies shoe as herein described with reference to Figure 1 or Figure 2 of the drawings.
