Abstract

A shaving lather-forming device comprises a container 1 containing a paste, gel, liquid or other flowable form of a surface-active material, such as soap or synthetic detergent, suitable for working into a shaving lather, and a brush 2 attached to the container 1. By rotating the brush 2 relative to container 1, outlet apertures 11 of container 1 can be opened by being brought into registry with corresponding apertures 23 of brush holder 22, to dispense the material directly into the brush proper 21, which is provided with a protective sleeve 4 when not in use. A cover 3 is provided for container 2 when not attached to the brush. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION A shaving lather-forming device This invention relates to a shaving lather-forming device.
A traditional method of forming a shaving lather is by means of a bowl of water, preferably hot water, using a shaving brush with shaving soap which may be in powderform or alternatively in the form of a paste or solid bar. Because this is a rather inconvenient method, a recent innovation has been the use of an aerosol can for producing an instant lather from the can. However, this has a number of disadvantages, including the fact that the foam tends to be excessively gaseous and insufficiently moist, and the fact that the foam expands too much and does not adhere sufficiently intimately with the beard and that as a result of this the beard remains oily or fatty and stiff, and hence difficult to shave off.
Furthermore, aerosol cans are dangerous near a fire and are expensive to produce because of the requirement for the cans to be pressure-resistant.
According to the invention there is provided a shaving lather-forming device comprising a container containing a paste, gel, liquid or other flowable form of a surface-active material, such as soap or synthetic detergent, suitable for working into a shaving lather, and a brush attached to the container, the device being adapted for the material to be dispensed from the container to the brush, to be worked by means of the brush into a shaving lather.
The invention will be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings wherein: Fig. 1 is an exploded view of a shaving latherforming device embodying the invention; Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the device of Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 shows parts sectioned of the device of Figs.
1 and 2.
Referring to the drawings, the illustrated shaving lather-forming device comprises a container containing a paste, gel, liquid or otherflowable form (such for example as a cream or emulsion) of a surface-active material, such as soap or synthetic detergent, suitable for working into a shaving lather, and a brush 2 attached to the container 1, the device being adapted for the material to be dispensed from the container 1 to the brush 2, to be worked by means of the brush 2 into a shaving lather.
The container 1 is substantially cylindrical and substantially elongate, the brush 2 being attached to one end of the container 1 screw-threadedly, for which purpose the container 1 is provided with screw threads 12, so that the brush 2 can be detached from the container 1. The end of the container 1 is formed with four outlet apertures 11 for the material to be dispensed.
The brush 2 comprises a brush proper, referenced 21, and a holder 22 which is internally screwthreaded for screwing onto the container 1. The outlet apertures 11 of container 1 can be selectively opened and closed by rotating the brush 2 so as to bring apertures 23 of brush holder 22 into and out of registry respectively with the apertures 11 of container 1.
An internally screw-threaded cover 3 is provided for the container 1 when the brush 2 is detached therefrom, as for example when the device is ready for sale. A removable cover sleeve 4 is provided for the brush proper 21.
To use the device, all that is required is to attach the brush 2 to the container 1, if not already attached, to dip the brush in water, preferably hot water, open the outlet apertures 11 by relative rotation between the container 1 and the brush 2, squeeze or pour the material from the container 1 into the brush 2, and then work the material into a lather on the face by means of the brush proper 21.
It will be appreciated that the device can be held and used in one hand while the user holds a razor in the other hand, so that the device is very convenient to use.
Because the container 1 is not under constant pressure, it can be made much more cheaply than the container of an aerosol, and is much safer in transportation, especially bulk transportation of a case or box of such decvices, compared with an aerosol.
Furthermore, the device produces a shaving lather which is as good as that produced by the traditional method using a shaving brush, but much more convenient.
