Abstract

A car crusher comprises a base provided at each end with pillars on which are pivotally mounted lever arms 0, 0'. Each lever arm is attached at one end to a hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder A, A' and at its other end to a link connecting in turn with a pressure pad E, E'. The other end of each cylinder is attached to a movable compression block F, F' which may be releasably held by clamps. In operation the cylinders are first actuated to bring the pressure pads E, E' to bear on a car, subsequent release of the clamps and further operation of the cylinders causing the blocks F, F' to move in laterally to complete the compaction. A set of wheels may be mounted on the lever arm assembly to render the unit mobile. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Portable car crusher It takes four stages to completely crush a standard British car. After each cycle of the Crusher, the car is fed through a stage further. A Portable Car Crusher is provided, which is formed from a lower base table, and two unconnected pressure pads (E,E'). To one end of each of these pressure pads is connected a link (B,B'), which in turn is connected to one end of each of the lever arms (D,D'). The lever arms are each mounted on a central pivot.
To the other end of the lever arms are attached an hydraulic cylinder (A,A'). The other ends of these cylinders are attached to a compression block (F,F'). By operating cylinder (A,A'), pressure pad (E,E') is brought to bear at an angle, onto the vehicle shell, compressing it partly.
By further operation Cylinder (A,A') and by leverage about the central pivot, further pressure is brought upon the vehicle shell, thereby crushing it further. Clamps retaining compression block (F,F') are released, and by further operation of cylinder (A,A') the compression block (F,F') is brought to bear against the partly crushed vehicle shell, until final compression is achieved.
The crusher is also provided with a means whereby a set of wheels can be clamped between the lever arms and the hydraulic cylinders, enabling the unit to be mobile.
1. A portable car crusher comprising a lower base table, at each end of which is a central pivot, whereat a lever arm is mounted, having a hydraulic cylinder at one end which is also connected to a compression block. The other end of each lever arm is connected by a link to a pressure pad.
By sequential steps, performed by operation of the hydraulic cylinder, the pressure pads are brought to bear upon the vehicle shell. Further such operation of the cylinder, combined with leverage about the central pivot causes further crushing to take place. By then releasing clamps on the compression block, and further operation of the hydraulic cylinders, final compression is achieved.
2. A portable car crusher according to Claim 1, wherein a clamp is provided to retain each compression block.
3. A portable car crusher according to Claims 1 and 2, wherein compression blocks, central pivots and pressure pads are provided at either end of the lower base table.
4. A portable car crusher according to Claims 1 to 3, wherein the cylinders are pneumatic or hydraulic cylinders.
5. A portable car crusher according to Claims 1 to 4, wherein the lower base table carries side pillars to support the central pivots.
6. A portable car crusher according to Claims 1 to 5, wherein the hydraulic cylinders are connected at one end to the lever arm, and at the other end to the compression block by bearings which are free to rotate, the cylinders not being held otherwise.
7. A portable car crusher according to Claims 1 to 6, wherein the pressure pad is indirectly linked to one end of the lever arm. The toggle link between the lever arms and the pressure pad being connected by bearings at each end, which are free to rotate.
8. A portable car crusher according to Claims 1 to 7, wherein the lever arms are capable, together with the hydraulic cylinders, of retaining a set of wheels to render the car crusher mobile.
9. A portable car crusher of a form substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawing.
