Feeding webs. - In a printing- machine of the kind comprising a number of printing units, particularly in a multi-deck machine, with a running roll and a spare roll arranged side by side to supply web to each unit, the rolls 7 - - 12, Fig. 1, are mounted on carriages 13, 14 which are slidable longitudinally of the rolls to facilitate reloading, the pairs of rolls being superposed. The uppermost pair of rolls need not be movable. The carriages 13, 14 comprise back and side frames 17, 18 and overhanging arms 19 with bearings 20 for the roll spindles 21. The carriages are provided with three sets of antifriction rolls, of which the sets 23, 24, Fig. 2, run on bearing surfaces 27, 29 on opposite sides of rails 26, and the set 25 on surfaces 28 on the rails. The carriages are locked in operative position when loaded by latch members 30 carried by spring-pressed rods 34 on the carriages and adapted to engage latch pins 36. The pins 36 are carried on blocks. 38 movable in the machine frame 15, in order to adjust slightly the position of the carnages, by a screw and handwheel 44. The roll spindles have squared ends 45 to engage recesses in driving shafts 47. Guides 50, 51, Fig. 1, for guiding the webs to the printing-mechanisms are arranged above the rolls.
