Axial-flow type; combined-flow type; blades ; regulating; working-fluid supply.-In an hydraulic turbine having unshrouded runner blades B of the axial-flow or axial-radial flow type; an annular space e is provided between the blade tips and the surrounding conduit so as to bypass water freely around the runner and produce an ejector action in the discharge tube 2. The blades B have a curved contour and a width w decreasing steadily towards the tip. The conduit surrounding the runner may be an annular plunger 7 actuated as described in Specification 211,010 by hand or governor-controlled fluid pressure to varv the clearance e and to shut off more or less of the stator blade ring 3 and restrict correspondingly the transition space 5.
