Abstract
217,525. Gibbons, A. B. Jan. 28, 1924. Operating doors by springs; checks. - A combined floor spring and check for operating and controlling a door comprises a cam groove b<3> on the door pintle b, a co-operating roller d whereby the plate e is lifted against a laminated spring g secured at f to the casing, and a check device with a plunger h<1> secured to the underside of the plate e. The plate is also anchored at f and flexes at the end remote from the door pivot. The check plunger w is connected to the plate by a ball-joint o<1>, as shown, and it is located within an oil-well formed by an upstanding flange h. The downward movement of the check piston forces oil into a well i, which is covered and overlapped by the plate e to exclude dust and grit. Oil is drawn into the cylinder from the well i through a non-return ball valve j<2>, and is ejected through a port k adjustably restricted by a screw l. A cover-plate s is provided about the door pivot.
