Abstract

A Swim Feeder of cylindrical body with grills and at each end for easy water access, made in a sinkable plastic that won't affect float performance, combining a trap door 4 openable at a moment of the angler's choice, allowing him to release scatter bait at a desirable depth, by a "sinking" action as a result of which the feeder travels rapidly a short distance through the water which causes flap 9 to bend backwards, releasing catch 9 from lip 7. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECiFICATION Trotting swim feeder This invention relates to a swim feeder which may be used in conjunction with a conventional float when coarse fishing. To be used in deep water swims where the angler can releasehisscatterbaitatvirtuallyany chosen depth.
Swim feeders are well known to coarse anglers and come in many different designs and sizes.
However, most swim feeders currently available can only present the scatter bait on the floor ofthe swim the remainder can only present the scatter bait just below the surface.
This invention isto be produced in a moulded plastic which is of a slightly higher gravity than water, enabling itto sink freely withoutvisibly affecting the buoyancy or sensitivity of the float when the terminal tackle has settled in the water.
The embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to drawing sheet 1/2 in which Fig. 1. Shows the top of the swim feeder.
Fig. 2. Shows the side ofthe swim feederwith trap doorfully open.
Fig. 3. Shows the bottom of the swim feeder with trap doorfully open.
The swim feeder is a small cylinder, closed at the top by a fine mesh grill (1) incorporating a support strap (2) in the centre of which is a hole (3) through which is threaded a link line.
The swim feeder has a trap door (4) at the bottom, which also hasp fine mesh grill (5).
When the trap door (4) is in the closed position it is held shut by a catch (6) which engages a small lip (7) situated on the opposite side of the cylindertothe hinge (8).
The catch (6) is mounted on a round flap (9) adjoining the trap door (4) connected by a narrow neck (10).
The operation ofthe invention will now be described with reference to drawing sheet 2/2 which is drawn in scale, with thetrap doorinthe closed position.
The swim feeder is attached to the main line (1) with the use of a short link line (2) and swivel (3)threaded onto the main line (1) and stopped with a split shot (4).
The swim feeder is positioned between the float and the hook at a desirable depth.
Theanglerfillsthefeederwith bait, closesthetrap door and casts his line into the water.
The mesh grills at each end of the feeder allows easy access ofwaterwithout loss of the bait contained.
When the angler is satisfied that his terminal tackle has settled properlyintheswim, he uses his rodto "strike" as though he were driving his hook home into a taking fish.
This results in the feeder travelling rapidly for a short distance through the water.
This action causes the flap and catch to bend backwards at the narrow neck thus opening the trap door and releasing the bait into the swim.
1. ATrotting Swim Feeder for use in conjunction with float tackle, produced in a plastic that will sink without affecting the performance of the float, com bining a fine mesh grill at each end for easy access of water, a trap doorfor containing the bait, and a catch for keeping the trap door closed. Means for releasing the catch and openingthetrap door at a depth of choice.
2. ATrotting Swim Feeder as claimed in Claim 1 wherein a round flap adjoins the trap door via a narrow neck which bends backwards underthe water pressure produced on the "strike".
3. A Trotting Swim Feeder as claimed in 1 and 2 wherein a catch is provided on the round flap engaging a lip on the body releasable when the flap bends backwards at the neck.
4. ATrotting Swim Feeder as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the top incorporates a support strap with a holeforthethreading of a link line.
5. ATrotting Swim Feeder as described herein with reference to figures 1,2 and 3 on the drawing 1/2 which is in your possession.
