Abstract

The side members C of the barrow and base members B are pivotally interconnected so that they may fold inwardly and upwardly as shown in Figure 2 to collapse the barrow. Front and rear members are attached pivotally to members C to complete the load containing box and are foldable inwardly about a central hinge when members C move upwardly. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION A folding wheel-barrow This invention relates to a folding wheel-barrow.
Wheel-barrows are well known vehicles used for a variety of tasks moving medium weights from one place to another. The wheel-barrow consists of an open topped box mounted on a frame which has a single wheel fitted at the front and handles at the rear.
On lifting the handles the box is then supported on the frame between wheel and handles. Wheel-barrows when not in use prove to be of a shape and design that make them difficult to store in a shed or garage that is in daily use.
According to the present invention there is provided a folding wheel-barrow with a single wheel to the front-handles at the rear and arrangements for the box and frame to fold there by allowing storage in limited spaces when not in use.
Figure 1 shows the frame in its entirity with its sections marked for recognition.
Figure 2 shows the frame folded vertically in closed storage position.
Figure 3 shows the front and rear panels describing the folding action.
Referring to the drawing the wheel-barrow comprises a single wheeled chassis A to which is added locking bridges Al locking arrangements not shown.
A2 are the rear supports for when the wheel-barrow is at rest these are joined by pivots to A and are linked to B. B completes the base and is joined to A by pivots that enable the section to rise when not in use section C are the side frames which form the two sides of the box. Built into this frame are the handles for manouvering the wheel-barrow. These sections are joined to B by pivots that enable the section to rise when not in use.
Figure 2 illustrates the folding arrangement for the wheel-barrow when not in use.
Figure 3 shows the front and rear panels D which when fitted complete the box.
D is joined to C by pivots that allow the two halves which are pivoted in the centre to travel only one way direction which is to the centre of the box. This section when in the fully open position is locked to Al thereby producing a rigid box with a rigid frame ready for use.
After use the locks are removed and on folding D to the centre it is seen that C and B rise A2 folds towards the centre line and the wheel-barrow folds up for storage.
1. A folding wheel-barrow comprising a single wheeled chassis with lock location bridges incorporated to provide rigid frame from which other sections are pivoted completing the base left and right Figure 1 B. To this section pivots are provided to attach side frames Figure 1 C. This completes the frame to accomodate panels forming box. The wheel-barrow can be made using same principle using panels pivoted without the frame attached to the chassis. The design of the chassis with locking bridges makes this possible providing a base, that moves away from previous inventions of this vehicle providing a folding action from the wheel axle resulting a degree of instabiliy questioned. In manufacture handles are provided to manouver the vehicle. Rest supports located at rear of chassis for when vehicle not in use A2.
2. A folding wheel-barrow substantially as described herein with reference to Figures 1-3 of the accompanying drawing.
