Abstract
217,859. Brewer, G., (Lang, J.). Jan. 9, 1924. Plates, walls, and the like, securing pipes and tubes to.-Tubes are fastened in boiler plates, flanges &c. by means of a wire ring C consisting of harder material than that of the tube B or the plate A, the ring being pressed without deformation into one or both of the two parts to be connected by expanding the tube end. In Fig. 1 a ring-receiving groove is shown provided in the plate, and in Fig. 3 in the tube, the collar b<3> formed during rolling of the groove in the latter case being pressed back during expansion of the tube end. In both cases the wire ring projects beyond the groove. Fig. 5 shows a connection in which no grooves are provided, the ring being of square or rhomboid cross-section and expanded into the tube and plate. The wire ring may extend over the circumferential surface of the tube end along a screw-like or undulated curve. If desired, more than one wire-ring may be employed. The tube-breast b<2> is adapted to abut against the boiler-plate A, and the projecting tubeend may be flanged over the plate.
