Abstract

A data area 31 capable of storing sentences is provided in a storage means 3 in which is stored a system program, and predetermined sentences are stored and held beforehand in the said data area. By actuation of plural specific keys on a keyboard the thus-stored sentence data are transferred to an edit memory 4, then printed and displayed. Consequently, in demonstrating the apparatus it becomes unnecessary to input sentence data from a demonstration keyboard or from an external memory such as floppy disc which stores demonstration sentences, whereby not only trouble-saving is attained but also the time required from the start of operation until display or printing can be shortened to a great extent. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION A word processing apparatus BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION FIELD OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to an improvement of a system program memory (ROM) in a word processing apparatus.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PRIOR ART In the case of demonstration of a word processing apparatus at a shop front or the like, explanations are in many cases made while giving a demonstration to potential users about operations such as display and printing. Demonstration sentences for the demonstration have heretofore been input by the use of a floppy disc or directly manually by salesman. In the former case it is necessary to provide a special-purpose floppy disc, and in the latter case it is necessary for the salesman to be at the trouble of manually inputting demonstration sentences.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The present invention has been accomplished in view of the above conventional problems, and it is an object thereof to provide a word processing apparatus capable of recording sentences such as demonstration sentences into an ROM disposed within the body of the word processor and thereby inputting the contents thereof quickly into a document memory in the body of the word processing apparatus.
Other objects and further scope of applicability of the present invention will become apparent from the detailed description given hereinafter. It should be understood, however, that the detailed description and specific examples, while indicating preferred embodiments of the invention, are given by way of illustration only, since various changes and modifications within the spirit and scope of the invention will become apparent to those skilled in the art from this detailed description.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRA WINGS The present invention will be better understood from the detailed description given hereinbelow and the accompanying drawings which are given by way of illustration only, and thus are not limitative of the present invention and wherein: Figure 1 is a perspective view of an embodiment of a word processing apparatus of the present invention; Figure 2 is a block diagram of the word processing apparatus of Fig. 1; Figure 3 is a flow chart for explaining an operational mode of the word processing apparatus of Fig. 2; and Figures 4(A) and 4(B) are flow charts for explaining an operational mode of another embodiment of a word processing apparatus of the present invention.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS An embodiment of a word processing apparatus of the present invention will be described below with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of an external appearance of a word processing apparatus embodying the invention, in which the reference numeral 9 denotes a body of the word processing apparatus, the body 9 being provided with a keyboard 1, a display device 6 and a printer 8. Numeral 10 represents a sample of demonstration sentences printed by the word processing apparatus.
Referring now to Fig. 2, there is illustrated a construction of the word processing apparatus, in which the keyboard 1 is provided with character keys for inputting character data and various function keys for sentence editing. Numeral 2 denotes an edit control section which performs an edit control in accordance with an edit controlling system program prestored in a later-described system program memory. Numeral 3 denotes a system program memory, e.g. ROM, which stores the edit controlling system program. Numeral 31 denotes a demonstration data area located within the system program memory 3 for storing demonstration data. Numeral 4 denotes an edit memory, e.g. RAM, in which are incorporated a sentence buffer for storing sentence data as well as various buffers which constitute flags, etc. used during edit processing and demonstration data processing.Numeral 5 denotes a display control section incorporating a display buffer; numeral 6 denotes a display device for displaying the demonstration data and sentence data stored in the sentence buffer of the edit memory 4; and numeral 7 denotes a printer control section for controlling a printer 8 to print out the deonstration data and sentence data stored in the sentence buffer of the edit memory 4, in accordance with instructions given from the edit control section.
The operation of the word processing apparatus will be explained below with reference to the flowchart of Fig. 3.
First, a demonstration mode is set by the keyboard (S1), then execution is commanded (S2), whereby demonstration data is read out from the demonstration data area 31 by the edit control section 2 in accordance with the system program stored in the system program memory 3 and it is transferred and stored into the sentence buffer of the edit memory 4 (S3). The demonstration data stored in the sentence buffer of the edit memory 4 are displayed on the display device 6 through the display control section 5 (S5). When it is necessary to make a line shift for seeing the whole of the demonstration data, the line is shifted up or down by operating a cursor shift key on the keyboard 1 (S4, S6).
For obtaining a print sample of demonstration data (57), the demonstration data is printed out (S9) by operating a print execution key on the keyboard 1 (S8). Where printing is not to be made (S7), cancellation of the demonstration mode is assigned by the keyboard 1 (S10), now waiting for assignment of another mode.
By such operations the demonstration data is transferred from the demonstration data area 31 of the system program memory 3 to the edit memory 4 and stored therein, then displayed and printed.
Thus, the demonstration data is recorded and held beforehand in the system program memory 3 disposed within the body of the word processing apparatus, whereby it becomes unnecessary to input the demonstration data from the keyboard or from an external memory such as floppy disc, so that not only trouble-saving is attained but also the time required from the start of operation until display or printing of the demonstration data can be shortened to a great extent.
Figs. 4(A) and 4(B) show an operational mode of another embodiment of a word processing apparatus of the present invention, wherein the demonstration mode is set through the use of several keys.
First, a power source of the word processing apparatus is held OFF and predetermined keys (e.g. 23 + 3 + [ # ] ) on the keyboard 1 are actuated (S1), in which condition the power source is turned ON (S2). With this operation, the edit control section 2 reads out demonstration data from the demonstration data area 31 of the system program memory 3 in accordance with the system program and stores it in the sentence buffer of the edit memory (S3). Then, the demonstration data is displayed on the display device 6 through the display control section 5 (S4) and at the same time printed by the printer 8 through the printer control section 7 (S5).When the printing of the entire demonstration data is completed (S6), the demonstration mode is cancelled, now waiting for the next mode assignment.
According to this embodiment, as set forth above, it is possible to display and print demonstration data after automatic transfer from the system program memory (ROM) in the body of the word processing apparatus into the sentence buffer (RAM) of the edit memory by actuation of specific keys, so it becomes unnecessary to input demonstration data from the keyboard or from an external memory such as floppy disc. Consequently, not only trouble-saving is attained but also the time required from the start of operation until display or printing of demonstration data can be shortened to a great extent. Moreover, since the demonstration mode is set by actuation of specific keys, there is not fear of an erroneous output of demonstration sentences caused by a mistake in key operation made by a person (e.g. user) who does not know how to operate.
The invention being thus described, it will be obvious that the same may be varied in many ways. Such variations are not to be regarded as a departure from the spirit and scope of the invention, and all such modifications are intended to be included within the scope of the following claims.
