Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Shaping by pressure.- Buttons or other articles of moulded ply wood are made by heating the layers of wood whilst under pressure, after previously impregnating them with a liquid phenol-formaldehyde condensation product, with or without the addition of powdered condensate as a coating. A number of moulds 2 with the three-ply blanks 1 are compressed hydraulically to between 300 and 600 kilograms per square centimeter, then removed and whilst still compressed, heated by means of steam at 2 to 3 atmospheres pressures. An outer layer of fabric or paper may be inserted, or a coating of metal foil, veneer, horn, tortoiseshell, ivory, mother-of-pearl, vultcanite, galalith, or the like. Articles suitable for making by this method are stated to include knife and brush handles, parts of furniture, letters and printing blocks.
