Sprinkling apparatus and systems; portable pressure reservoirs.-The invention comprises several detail improvements in fire-extinguishing apparatus for aeroplanes of the type in which a fire-extinguishing liquid is forced by compressed gas through pipes to any required part, such as the carburettor, petrol tanks, &c. A container a for fire-extinguishing liquid, such as carbon tetrachloride, is fitted with a flexible internal discharge pipe h, and is connected to a pressure gas container c by a tube f provided with a pressure reduction valve d and a cock e having a. lever i, which is actuated either by hand directly or by electric, pneumatic &c. transmission from a control board; the level controls a spring safety valve i, which is opened by the closing of the cock e to allow excess gas to escape from the container a, whereby discharge of liquid is immediately stopped. The valve may be opened by hand for testing purposes &c. A liquid discharge pipe g is provided with branches, which lead to various positions on the aeroplane. The flexible discharge pipe h of the container a is weighted to ensure submersion in all positions, and is fitted with a spring-pressed stop valve, which may constitute the weight. The spraying-tubes terminate in slitted semi-spherical ends, normally closed by caps adapted to be blown off by the discharge pressure. The caps may be secured by fusible solder, so that when the liquid is under permanent pressure, an automatic discharge may be obtained in case of fire.
