Description

IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO DUVET COVERS This invention relates to duvet covers and is particularly, though not exclusively, concerned with duvet covers having storage means.
Accordingly, the present invention provides a duvet cover including at least one pocket at or adjacent at least one edge of the duvet cover.
Preferably one or more pockets are provided on opposed edges of the duvet cover, for example the opposed side edges.
The pockets can be formed integrally with either or both of the layers of textile material which form the main body of the duvet cover. Alternatively, the pockets can be formed separately and attached to the main body of the cover by stitching or by other fastening means, such as press studs or buttons and button holes.
The pockets can have closure members in the form of zip fasteners, press studs or buttons and button holes. Also, apart from the pockets along one or more edges of the cover, a separate pocket can be releasably attached to the duvet cover in the central region of the main portion thereof.
The present invention will now be more particularly described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which Fig. 1 shows a plan view of one form of duvet cover according to the present invention and Fig. 2 is a section on line 2-2 in Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings, a duvet cover 10 comprises a main body 12 formed from upper and lower layers 12A and 12B of a textile material. The layers 12A and 12B are stitched together along their edges apart from an opening (not shown) so that the cover can be placed over or removed from the duvet (not shown).
A plurality of pockets 14 are arranged on opposed side edges 16 of the main body 12 to give a balanced appearance to the duvet cover and also when the pockets are in use, to enable the duvet cover to be evenly weighted, thereby preventing the duvet cover from slipping one way or the other from a bed.
The pockets 14 are formed from a folded over length of material which is approximately the same length as the body 12, the free ends of the folded over length are attached to the side edges 16 and end edges 18 of the main body 12. The individual pockets are then formed by stitching the folded over length at locations 20 to the layer 12A of textiles material.
Alternatively the pockets can be formed by extensions of either or both of the layers 12A and 12B suitably folded and stitched to form one or more pockets 14 along either or both opposed edges of the duvet cover.
In another arrangement, one or more pockets can be formed in the nature of bags which can be releasably attached to the main body 12 of the duvet cover by buttons and button holes, press studs or any similar suitable means.
The or each pocket can have a suitable closure means for example press studs, buttons and button holes, or zips, so as to prevent the contents of the or each pocket being displaced when the duvet is moved, for example, when the bed is being made.

Claims (1)

  1. (1) A duvet cover including at least one pocket located adjacent at least one edge of the duvet cover.
    (2) A duvet cover as claimed in claim 1 and in which at least one pocket is provided on each of two opposed edges of the duvet cover.
    (3) A duvet cover as claimed in claim 2 in which the opposed edges are the side edges of the duvet cover.
    (4) A duvet cover as claimed in any one of the preceding claims in which a plurality of pockets are provided on opposed edges of the duvet cover.
    (5) A duvet cover as claimed in any one of the preceding claims in which the pockets are formed integrally with either or both of the layers of textile material which form the main body of the duvet cover.
    (6) A duvet cover as claimed in any one of the preceding claims 1 to 4 in which the pockets are formed separately and are attached to the main body of the cover.
    (7) A duvet cover as claimed in claim 6 in which the pockets are attached to the main body of the duvet cover by stitching.
    (8) A duvet cover as claimed in claim 6 in which the pockets are attached to the main body of the duvet cover by press studs.
    (9) A duvet cover as claimed in claim 6 in which the pockets are attached to the main body of the duvet cover by buttons and button holes.
    (10) A duvet cover as claimed in any one of the preceding claims in which the or each pocket includes a closure member to close the free edges of the pocket.
    (11) A duvet cover as claimed in any one of the preceding claims having a pocket releasably attached to the duvet cover in the central region of the duvet cover.
    (12) A duvet cover constructed and arranged for use substantially as herein described and with reference to the accompanying drawing.
